  • Recently I picked up a Weber Kettle Master Touch to complement my Weber Kettle Premium, and I’ve had questions about the differences between the two and why I chose to get a second Weber Kettle. In this video I try to answer those questions.

Always nice to see an in depth comparison between models especially for those who don't have access to check out both. The side-by-side is great. You're making me wish I had put some extra dollars toward the higher end one, but I still love my copper premium. She puts in work! Thanks for sharing your thoughts.

Was going to buy one too! Except they want a premium price, for coated steel grates. My WSM has SS + you can make it into a better Master Touch with a little know how. Don't waste your money. Get the cheaper one and bigger wheels if you need it taller

The real task is to plead for permission for the Master Touch and then actually buy and sneak home the Charcoal Summit. I am lucky enough to have a wife who loves to smoke & BBQ so we have both. Add an Arteflame griddle and you're in heaven. Of course along with the Bandit rotisserie and a few other of the Weber accessories.

    Great review!
The “P” vents were first introduced on the Weber Summit Charcoal and as of late 2019, they are standard on the Premium, Master Touch and Performer Kettles. Weber Performer models also have the lid bale and the GBS (Gourmet Barbecue System) grates and the Premium and Deluxe models also come with the charcoal baskets. Accessories for the GBS include a wok, griddle, sear grate, chicken roaster and a pizza stone. The warming rack is exclusive to the Master Touch.

I’m waiting for them to add the P vents to the 26 inch kettle. It’s the only thing keeping me from getting one right now. So far, my inquiries to Weber, both on the phone and on the website have gone completely unanswered 😐😐

Rock Dog: I got a 26” Kettle and love it. Unlike my 22” (with those great P vents) I don’t miss them on the 26”. Ever single cook I’ve done on the 26” has the bottom vents wide open. The larger size needs that air, and the top daisy is perfectly fine for making adjustments. The 26” is so much bigger and so fun to cook on, you won’t think twice about P vents once you get it. I just wish it came in colors other than black.

tgarry100 thanks for your input. Were any of those cooks with the bottom vents wide open in the low and slow range (225-275)? Based on my experience with my 22 inch (old model, no P vents), that would be surprising to me.

I started with the Premium a few years ago and love it. This year I purchased the Master Touch to have a second kettle (two locations). The Master Touch is well worth the extra price. The lid bale is worth the difference to me all by itself. I always struggle with that hook on the lid of the Premium. The other great thing about the cooking grate is the removable circle grate in the middle. On the Premium I need to set the charcoal baskets on bricks so that the charcoal is immediately under the grate. I do this to sear steaks. With the Master touch I just set that removable circle grate directly on top of the two charcoal basket in the bottom of the grill to sear my steak. When it is time to replace the cooking grate again on the Premium, I will definitely upgrade to the gourmet system grate.

Got my Master Touch 5 years ago. It has sat outside without a cover all that time. It has been covered in snow and rain and it has zero rust. The only damage it has is on the lid where I dropped it. I also have the rotisserie for it. I have cooked Christmas dinner on it, slow cooked pulled pork. Slow cooked chilli. I’ve made cakes, brownies and bread. I would say that I’ve only cooked burgers on it maybe 3 times. I love it and if my wife ever kicks me out it will be the first thing I take. 😂. I have combined it with a wood burning pizza oven for the complete and perfect outdoor kitchen.
Oh, the only charcoal I will buy is Weber’s own. Briquettes for slow cooking and lumpwood for anything hot and fast. I’ve tried so many other, cheaper brands and they just don’t ever work as well.

Hey man, checking in from the UK here.
I picked up a weber master touch recently and have been getting great results using it for smoking, largely in part to the videos you do on the weber kettles.
Just wanted to say thanks really, for all the great videos you've done so far and, hopefully, the videos you continue to make.
Living in England it’s fairly difficult to buy the sorts of cuts you guys in America can get with ease for smoking… St. Louis ribs, pork butts, whole briskets etc. but having watched a lot of your videos I was prepared to spend the money to special order them in and have seen nothing but great results!
Hope you keep up the great work man, much appreciated!

I got a Weber Kettle Premium about a month ago, and I’m here to tell you the vents on new Premiums have the exact same P shaped profile as the master touch!!! I didn’t even know Master touch existed when I got my premium, I did buy those charcoal holders and a wood fired pizza kit (video in the works) but otherwise I’m good to go! I never knew how awesome barbecuing could be, I feel like you can do any style of BBQ on a Weber kettle, your videos have helped me a lot!

The overlooked pro with the Premium is that it gets much better sale prices. I grabbed mine at a lowes for $120 with a free chimney starter during their inventory shift into winter. The Master Touch rarely drops below $200. Though you still are getting nearly $100 worth of extras on the master.

Much different but manageable, but you have to stay on top of it when cooking steaks or chicken thighs.

3 or 4 cooks in I'm already wishing I'd bought a) a bigger Weber and b) a higher end one. Originally it was 18 in. base model Weber vs. a Char Griller Acorn and I took the kettle over the kamado. No reason not to, it can do everything the kamado can do for less money and that mindset still remains. However for what I've spent adding char-baskets, a hinged grill grate, meat probes to measure both ambient grill temps as well as food temps, as well as a bunch of other crap I wish I'd just bought once/cried once and taken the Master Touch. To me the additional cooking space alone is worth the extra cash. Then additional features are just a bonus.

I got the Webber with the table on the side and gas light to start charcoal. I got it probably 10 years ago for my birthday and that thing has been great. The table is so handy for setting grilling stuff on. It's not even covered and it hardly shows any degradation after all these years. It is out of the sun though.

Now I'm excited. When I decided to take the plunge and get my copper premium 2 years ago (price still $165) I noted the Master touch had the warming rack and the heavier grill top, but I still was not sure I was going to enjoy switching to charcoal cooking so I took the cheaper one. NOW I want the Master Touch because I have totally enjoyed my copper model so much and can actually get the temperature I want if I care about that. The lid holder is what will probably sell me. I have 4 kettles -- at my parents' house, my house and 2 at my wife's family beach house. I think all three have a dent on the lip of the lid where I've either missed the hook or they got knocked off and fell.
The bottom vent isn't a bigger seller. I pretty much leave mine wide open and control the flow with the top vent. Plus the two older ones don't really turn anymore.
Maybe do a video on care and maintenance. Yours sure look a lot cleaner than any of mine.
    Thanks for all your doing.

Anyway, I bought a Blue premium from Lowes but it seems more like a mix between the master touch and premium. It has the gourmet grill, the master touch "p" vents and the removable ash catcher. As far as I can tell it just doesn't have the lid holder, coal baskets, and the vent handle. And it was actually cheaper than the copper premium at $152. It didn't say Lowes or anything on it but I wonder if its a special item for them. I'll probably get another one to build a table for and keep one mobile. Going to convert my old barrel grill to an offser reverse flow smoker too ;) thanks for the great content.

I snagged a MT on clearance a while back and ended up selling it fairly quick since I’m only 5’9”. I found the height of my 22” premium made it easier to roll around easier due to the lower center of gravity, and of course, it fits upside down in more makes and models of automobiles. (My Premium is my front porch kettle, and really easy to pick up and move to the back patio if I need to.) You’re absolutely right, though. Although I rarely used the warming rack, the accessories do make the MT more bang for the buck. I didn’t care for the grate, though, because it didn’t hang from the grill with the center, was harder to keep clean, and the high heat from my Vortex burned the plating off the center just like the lighter plated grate. You can remove the center for Vortex cooking, but then you lose a substantial amount of cooking space compared to a conventional grate and you also then have a big hole to drop items into lol. My 26” came with a stainless grate and baskets, and I really don’t know why they don’t sell the same grill downsized in a 22”. I really like the new vent holes. That was cool to see.

I recently subscribed to your channel and I love your video reviews. I'm so tired of clicking on a video that compares one product to another with a robotic voice telling me just specifications that I can find on the manufacturer's website with no knowledge of the product at all. Yet these people are smart enough to post a link, usually Amazon, so they can earn a commission. This is the true ugliness of today's Affiliate Marketing.... really sad.

6 months ago, I had never grilled and my extended family had never grilled. I bought a Weber Compact Kettle because 1) Weber are well respected and 2) it was the cheapest Weber going so I'd not be crying if I used it a couple of times and decided it wasn't for me.
Now, I want a Slow'N'Sear and none of them fit my compact kettle so upgrading was my next solution, and both of these are on my radar. Unfortunately, they're both 2-3 times more expensive in the UK than the prices I heard you quoting, and the difference between the two is £100-150.
I'm leaning towards stepping up to the Master Touch, simply because I cannot for the life of me master the lid hook and when you are still gaining experience in heat management, trying to juggle that and be as fast as you can is not great.
    Thank you for the video.

Got the premium from Amazon warehouse for 159.99, to get back into charcoal grilling. In hindsight enjoying it the way I am I probably would go with the master touch.
Don't really need the center circle, but grill baskets and lid holder plus extra height would be nice. Heavier gauge steel also is a plus.
My premium kettle does have the p shaped vents in the kettle.

The price on these grills jumped up big time since Feb when I got mine.
I think I went right to Amazon warehouse and bought it in like new condition for 159.
Also bought charcoal baskets, and cover same way and saved 5 bucks on baskets and 4 on a 20 dollar cover..
Both purchases had damage to boxes, but products were perfectly fine.
Sometimes when you look at an item on Amazon it'll have other buying choices, like new is usually box damage. Never tried the lower condition items.
I paid 159, got the baskets and a non Weber cover for the regular price.
Good luck, must be grilling season they jacked up the prices.

Hey love watching your videos. Very informative. I know you said you had your copper premium for a few years and that you have the regular oval vent notches at the bottom. Today I bought the same copper Original Premium from Lowes and this one has P notches, so they must of updated. I've had the slow and sear for a few weeks and love it. Believe it or not, I've been using a cheap $40 22" kettle from Walmart and got desent flavor results but naturally as to where it is cheap quality it took a lot of briquettes to keep the temperature steady which resulted in some bad smoke at times. I mostly used the snake method on it. The slow and sear did good, but naturally it did fit properly. Im ready to do a first burn off on this Weber to get it ready for a labor day pulled pork cook with Applewood. Keep up the videos. Ive learned a lot

After reading some reviews, I am going with the weber kettle premium. The lid holder on the Mastertouch has some negatives as it scratches the enamel on the lid. Also the center piece of the Mastertouch has complaints about cooking burgers...they don't slide smoothly on the grate. Just not worth the extra cost, then the cost of buying the accessories...imo

I wanted the weber master touch. I loved the blue color and the extra features for not a lot more money would have been cool and worth it for me. But since none of the stores I went to or online seemed to have the Master Touch in Blue. We ended up ordering the Regular Weber Kettle Premium in Green. I am still excited to get it and maybe over time I can upgrade to a few of those extras the Master Touch has. I Don't think the metal grates or the high difference will be all that much of a problem but we will see as I get used to using it. I am excited to get it and set up my little outdoor grilling station/kitchen.

No kettle like a Weber and I love my Master Touch....I had a Premium and the M.T.. I and had a hinge on the Premium , wind came in quick and flip. 6 burgers and a new flower pot later all I have is the M.T. I'm going 1 step futher as I am mounting the M.T. to a SS table. My next Weber is the Premium Deluxe because of the table and 4 points on the ground. My fav color is BLUE and guess what color Weber just added to the Premium line up????? Happy Dance = Blue... I have the Master Touch - bought it about 3 years ago. It’s obviously different for different markets (I’m in the United Kingdom) - as the U.K. version didn’t (when I bought it at least) come with a warming rack + the vents in the bowl are an oval shape and not a ‘P’ shape. Still a great bbq grilling system though. 👍🏼👍🏼
