hi everyone, taking back to the 70s today.. reacting to a band that's been on my radar since a few months ago! What do you think of Thin Lizzy & which act should I react to next?
Something off of their genuinely Heavy Metal album, Thunder and Lightning. The title track perhaps? Away from metal, would like to see a reaction to Steely Dan. The Aja or Goucho albums especially.
Thin Lizzy had some great Stuff - Emerald is defintily the best of these three picks, the other are more sing along songs. Suicide, Opium Trail, Angle of Death, Genocide .. the "Album Tracks", are theire strong harder ones... Or try something more Irish Vagabonds of the Western World, Rose Dubh - Black Rose, Fools Gold - non of these is from their famous Jailbreak reckord ;-)

This Lizzy was such a good band, we tended to make allowances for their more commercial music. It's like, you don't like everything one of your friends does, but the friendship is more important than whatever flaws are there. And to be fair, Lizzy's commercial songs were better than 90% of the other commercial material on the air at the time. Radio airplay was extremely important then, and bands without hits tended to wither and die. Jailbreak was their most successful album in the States, largely due to the hits. It came out the same summer as the first Boston album, so catchy tunes with excellent guitars were definitely in the air. (If you're not familiar with Boston, you're in for a real treat. Just avoid the first song on the first album, and the cheerfulness will dissolve into that sweet sea of guitar.) I was lucky enough to see Thin Lizzy in January 1977, opening for Queen. It's a toss-up as to which band had the more charismatic lead singer - think about that statement for a second.
The Best part of my Monday morning in the 🇺🇸 is Kira reacts ! This morning there is a jailbreak ! 🏃♂️🏃♀️ Phil Lynott was bad ass - Much respect. Long live the 🪴🌱
Such a great band, you have to react to any of the songs on their Live and Dangerous album, especially Sha La La for the drum solo and Still In Love With You for the guitar solos. Also, seeing how much you loved Emerald, wait until you hear the live version! Try their last album Thunder and Lightening for a much heavier sound.
Thank you for uploading Thin Lizzy's reaction video that I've always wanted to see😊 I would like to see the reaction of other albums such as Black Rose someday🌹🎵
Eyy, favourite band right here! I see a lot of good suggestions in the comments, but I'd like to add Renegade, specifically the Live at the Hammersmith '81 version, it's absolutely sublime. Keep doing Lizzy! :)
Phil Lynott with the drive behind this band, a Black Irish bassist and lead vocalist who constantly recruited the best Irish/English twin guitar players he could for his original songs. He came out of dirt poor hardscrabble Irish late 1960's poverty and found hard rock, heavy metal and punk rock as a escape. He sadly lived a live of excess and his body could keep up. He dies before He was 35. I beg you to understand that more video watches of this band will blow you away, live in Sydney Australia is really wonderful. The twin guitar harmoies are so perfect and the showmanship that Phil would bring was wonderful. Songs I'd recommend, but might be a bit tame and radio friendly for Your tastes are The Cowboy Song, and Whiskey In The Jar. Thanks My dear!!
@@kirawasareactor I'm so glad! I was supposed to come on tour and perform on the Gold Coast last year but...You can guess whats happened! Currently the plans from last year are on hold until Your NEXT summer, next year! Wish Me luck!!!!

I like a lot of Thin Lizzy's songs, but this Emerald I didn't know, and I reacted together with you. I loved it just like you and I've put it on my Spotify list. I'll leave here my recommendation of my favorite song of them "Baby, please dont go", from the album Thunder and Lightning from 1983.
The Boys Are Back In Town was indeed a Radio Hit. It was a song that broke the band into the U.S. back in the Summer of 1976. Played in stadiums still today during pre-game for Home Openers.
BABIT and Jailbreak are def their biggest commercial success, so yeah. Had to appease the execs to get backing. They wanted a hit to sell the albums. No hits = no recording contract. So ya gotta write to make a hit, whether you wanted to or not. Sad but true.
'Ole Audiophile: This will probably mean little to you cause it's two years old but that was a fair evaluation of those three songs. The Boys Are Back In Town AND Dancing In The Moonlight (It's Caught Me In The Spotlight) are in fact the two most 'commercial' songs Lizzy wrote. From what you infered about your tastes, I'd say you were about three years off. Look for an album labeled Chinatown & play the title track along with the very next item called Sweetheart. I believe you'll hear what you were speaking of.thanx ua-cam.com/video/8ESbphBw--Y/v-deo.html
The production on Thin Lizzy studio albums was quite dry. The best way to experience them is live - The album Live and Dangerous is a stone wall classic.
Noooo!!!👎 Why?!?!! Wtf! Why are the tunes cut and trashed? Sliced into pieces. Slaughtered. Shouldn't sound like this. At all. What a disgrace. Crap. 👎
I've never been a huge Thin Lizzy fan, but I do like some of their songs. Don't Believe A Word, Whiskey In The Jar, Waiting For An Alibi and Do Anything You Want To are among my favourites, and I've always liked bands where the singer is the bass player. As I said before, I love me a good bass riff :-)
Lots of great Lizzy songs: 1973: Vagabond of the Western World, The Rocker, The Hero and the Madman, Whiskey in the Jar (trad. folk song) 1974: Still in Love With You, Showdown, Sha La La 1975: Suicide, For Those Who Love to Live, Rosalie (Bob Seger cover) 1976: Johnny, Don't Believe A Word, Massacre 1977: Opium Trail, Bad Reputation, Dancing in the Moonlight (It's Caught Me in its Spotlight) 1979: Waiting for an Alibi, Got to Give it Up, Róisín Dubh (Black Rose): A Rock Legend, 1980: Chinatown, Killer on the Loose, Hey You 1981: Angel of Death, The Pressure Will Blow, Leave This Town 1983: Thunder & Lightning, Cold Sweat, This is the One
Long time fan of Thin Lizzy since this album came out in 76. Phil Lynot was an amazing artist. "The Warrior," is a great never played on the radio cut from this album.
Check out the Irish prog group “Horslips”. They were even bigger than Thin Lizzy in their homeland! Lots of mythology mixed with epic musicianship!! I recommend the tracks ‘Dareg Doom’ , ‘Trouble with a capitol T’ & ‘Sword of light’.

These songs litteraly changed the world
Lesser known yet hard hitting Lizzy songs- China Town, Ballad of a Hard Man, Vagabond of The Western World, Cowboy Song, Cold Sweat, Toughest Street in Town, and Bad Reputation!! :) Edit- Yeah, Jail Break's chorus is kinda stupid, "Tonight there's gonna be a Jailbreak, somewhere in the town" -Uhhh, possibly at the jail? lol not exactly Phil's shining lyrical moment, though the riff still kills imo!

By co-incidence AC/DC put out a song Jailbreak in Australia in 1976. Kira, if you could get the videos for Jailbreak, lts A Long Way to the Top,(if ya wanna Rock'n'Roll) Let There Be Rock, and T.N.T, the Countdown videos of all four songs, you would have a great program there!!
Finally, I've been waiting for this. I think that Lizzy is the ultimate Rock/Hardrock band of the 70's and beginning of the 80's, until Phil's death. I have always wondered what would have happened with the band if he was alive.. 😊 Cowboysong, Massacre, Leave This Town, Angel From The Coast, No One Told Him and Opium Trail are some of my favourites. .
Thin Lizzy was famous for two things: Phil Lynott's songwriting and their distinctive twin lead guitar style. Like most of the best bands, their songs are usually better live. The drummer, Brian Downey, is (my opinion) seriously underrated. A few great tunes by Thin Lizzy: Roisin Dubh, Bad Reputation, Opium Trail, Johnny the Fox Meets Jimmy the Weed (esp live version), The Cowboy Song, Emerald, etc etc etc etc etc.
100% about suggestions, exact what i just wrote on another channel asked for popular songs because it gives more views.. oh, eh..cock. Seen them twice, drummer is underated! Thin Lizzy has a wide range of songs. Don't Believe a Word, Massacre, With Love, Roisin Dubh, Toughest Street in Town, Got to Give it Up, That Woman's Gonna Break Your Heart, Wild One, Still In Love With You, Cold Sweat, Baby Please Don't Go are all very different and very good. I might be biased though since it's my favorite band ever.
May I suggest 'Black Rose' next (with Gary Moore on lead guitar): ua-cam.com/video/TjjpBb9q1PA/v-deo.html And then 'Still in Love With You' (with John Sykes on Lead guitar): ua-cam.com/video/tEC7oCA9msI/v-deo.html Then you might like to dive into Gary Moore's great music -- you'll not find a better guitarist.
Kira - First of all, I get a big kick out of watching you enjoy this stuff! Secondly, I think you’d love the band Sugar and their album Copper Blue. Bob Mould, previously of the punk band Hüsker Dü, formed the band in the early 90s. Check out any of it if you get a chance! Cheers!
Good Nicee video !Emerald & Rosin Dubh (Black rose a rock legend) are songs that I like the most from Thin Lizzy! Would recommend Listening to Rosin Dubh amazing guitars by Gary Moore and Scott Gorham. haha
A bit late to this party but here´s my thoughts: Thin Lizzy was lead by charismatic Philip Lynott, a black irishman. Together with drummer Brian Downey (one of the most underrated drummers in rock history) they were the core of the band thru out. Lizzy is all about the LIVE performance, as a band (in any of the different lineups) Lizzy never defined themselves on the records except for the live recordings. For me (and i suspect 4 most fans) the Live n Dangerous album from 78 stands out. Know this: Lizzy started out as a 3 piece in early 70s, hardrock/metal had barely started to form n record labels wanted bands to release 2-3 albums a year. Lizzy almost quit but took in 2 new guitarists which resulted in the Jailbreak album success. (The twin guitar sound was formed.) Later guitarists came n went, among them Phil Lynotts old friend Gary Moore who´s name you should follow up on, but Thin Lizzy around the 1980s is at their peak performance. Listen to these albums, apart from the L & D -78: Bad Reputation, Black Rose (w Gary Moore), Chinatown and Renegade. Their last album Thunder n Lightning has (at least for my ears) a totally different, heavier and more "produced" sound, i suspect much because of their new guitarist John Sykes who later on joined Whitesnake. (You should check out Whitesnake too.) As a kid i discovered Lizzy with the T&L album but it was only later, when i discovered the earlier stuff that Thin Lizzy/Phil Lynott rose to the top for me. Many musicians, old and new, name Thin Lizzy as their influence and in my opinion that´s because of their Live sound n performance, especially around aforementioned timeperiod.

It came out the same summer as the first Boston album, so catchy tunes with excellent guitars were definitely in the air. (If you're not familiar with Boston, you're in for a real treat. Just avoid the first song on the first album, and the cheerfulness will dissolve into that sweet sea of guitar.)
I was lucky enough to see Thin Lizzy in January 1977, opening for Queen.
Long live the 🪴🌱
haahah David thank you! My tree is back in the background :) so happy to have him return. glad you're feeling good on a monday morning!!
Try the band Budgie one of the most underrated 70s bands 🤘
Try giving the songs "Masssacre" or "Thunder and Lightning" a listen. A lot heavier.
Massacre sounds so iron maiden before iron maiden and thunder and lightning sounds so much like a motor head song .
“Freedom Song” is another great Thin Lizzy tune
Dancing in the Moonlight is a favourite of mine. The bass is awesome in that one
Gary Moore's solo blues work was divine.
Johnny the fox is my favorite album by Lizzy. They're all good though.
Their heaviest album is Thunder and Lightning.
See, the boys and me mean business. Bustin' out dead or alive.
You might like early 'Motley Crue' Kira🤘
- Shout at the Devil
- Red Hot
- Live Wire
- Piece of Your Action
- Looks that Kill (all audio)🤘🤘🤘
Shout at the Devil, Looks that Kill, Take Me to the Top
oh right yes I'll add them into my list!!
Red hot and live wire are my 2 favorite songs for sure.
Thank you for uploading Thin Lizzy's reaction video that I've always wanted to see😊
I would like to see the reaction of other albums such as Black Rose someday🌹🎵
Eyy, favourite band right here! I see a lot of good suggestions in the comments, but I'd like to add Renegade, specifically the Live at the Hammersmith '81 version, it's absolutely sublime. Keep doing Lizzy! :)
The album "another perfect day", from Motorhead, was with a guitarist from thin lizzy, and it gives it a unique flavor. It's a great album, too.
You should listen to them on live and dangerous. Best live album probably ever.!!!
Yes! This!
1983 Life live double album is my favorite.🎸
Frampton Comes Alive IS THE best live album ever created. Barre none.
@@kiillabytez Did you know that Lizzy listened to this Frampton live album and told their producers "we could do this too!!"?
@@robertpettersen3577 which one?
Thanks My dear!!
omg Sydney! not far from where I live! i promise I will do a LIVE thin lizzy reactions video! :)
@@kirawasareactor I'm so glad! I was supposed to come on tour and perform on the Gold Coast last year but...You can guess whats happened! Currently the plans from last year are on hold until Your NEXT summer, next year! Wish Me luck!!!!
Lol,the thing you liked best was that it was ending! love your commentary. tonight there's going to be a jail break somewhere in this town. perhaps at the jail?
Go deeper,I'd like to see a reaction to Geordie, they were brilliant, some excellent slide guitar & the best version of House of the Rising Sun
Denis, you really need to get their Live and Dangerous album. It is generally regarded as one of the best Live albums ever recorded.
@@ed.barker7069 Thanks for the advice Ed. I will listen for sure
Thin Lizzy: The Rocker, Bad Reputation, Cold Sweat.
Thin Lizzy - Cold Sweat (Live, 1983)

The Boys Are Back In Town was indeed a Radio Hit. It was a song that broke the band into the U.S. back in the Summer of 1976. Played in stadiums still today during pre-game for Home Openers.
BABIT and Jailbreak are def their biggest commercial success, so yeah. Had to appease the execs to get backing. They wanted a hit to sell the albums. No hits = no recording contract. So ya gotta write to make a hit, whether you wanted to or not. Sad but true.
NEVER HEARD THIN LIZZY??????????????? get your hear outta your backside!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Agree w.r.t. "The Boys Are Back In Town". Just famous because it is poppy. Other recommendations: "Massacre" and "Baby Please Don't Go ".
I've gotten a harder version of The Beach Boys vibe from Thin Lizzy
Some early ALICE COOPER should be tried. My favorites albums are Love It To Death and Killer, both from 1971...
Check out Emerald from Live and Dangerous ...Massacre Warriors
Lots of great Lizzy songs:
1973: Vagabond of the Western World, The Rocker, The Hero and the Madman, Whiskey in the Jar (trad. folk song)
1974: Still in Love With You, Showdown, Sha La La
1975: Suicide, For Those Who Love to Live, Rosalie (Bob Seger cover)
1976: Johnny, Don't Believe A Word, Massacre
1977: Opium Trail, Bad Reputation, Dancing in the Moonlight (It's Caught Me in its Spotlight)
1979: Waiting for an Alibi, Got to Give it Up, Róisín Dubh (Black Rose): A Rock Legend,
1980: Chinatown, Killer on the Loose, Hey You
1981: Angel of Death, The Pressure Will Blow, Leave This Town
1983: Thunder & Lightning, Cold Sweat, This is the One
Long time fan of Thin Lizzy since this album came out in 76. Phil Lynot was an amazing artist. "The Warrior," is a great never played on the radio cut from this album.
Check out the Irish prog group “Horslips”.
They were even bigger than Thin Lizzy in their homeland!
Lots of mythology mixed with epic musicianship!!
I recommend the tracks ‘Dareg Doom’ , ‘Trouble with a capitol T’ & ‘Sword of light’.
I think you’d love some 70’s era Judas Priest! Check out Dissident Aggressor, Victim Of Changes, Saints In Hell, or Tyrant.
Massacre
Johnny
Opium Trail
Róisín Dubh (Black Rose): A Rock Legend
Angel of Death
Got to Give it Up
and of course Whiskey in the Jar is popular.
Johnny the fox meets Jimmy the weasel, masacare from live and dangerous, thunder and lightning, cowboy song.
React to JETHRO TULL, his songs Sweet Dream, A New Day Yesterday, Roots To Branches.
Toy Story 2 trailers used 'The Boys are Back in Town'. You might also like 'Waiting For an Alibi', 'Dancing in the Moonlight', and 'Do Anything You Want to Do'. ua-cam.com/video/t0bxljESZ5U/v-deo.html On a different note you might to try The Ruts - 'Babylon's Burning', 'Staring at the Rude Boys', and 'Something That I Said'.
Some other Thin Lizzy songs you need to check out are:
A Song For While I’m Away
Sha La La
Fighting My Way Back
Don’t Believe A Word
Massacre
Bad Reputation
Opium Trail
Still In Love With You (Live & Dangerous version)
Róisín Dubh (Black Rose): A Rock Legend
We Will Be Strong
Killer On The Loose
Angel of Death
Thunder and Lightning
Cold Sweat
You should react to bob dylan, who turned 80 last month. Songs like Visions Of Johanna, The Lomesome Death of Hatie Carroll, Hurricane, I Dream I Saw St. Augustine, A Hard Rain's a-Gonna Fall, Subterranean Homesick Blues, It's Alright Ma (I'm Only Bleedin'), Tombstone Blues, It's All Over Now Baby Blue, Chimes of Freedom, Idiot Wind. These songs litteraly changed the world
Lesser known yet hard hitting Lizzy songs- China Town, Ballad of a Hard Man, Vagabond of The Western World, Cowboy Song, Cold Sweat, Toughest Street in Town, and Bad Reputation!! :)
Edit- Yeah, Jail Break's chorus is kinda stupid, "Tonight there's gonna be a Jailbreak, somewhere in the town" -Uhhh, possibly at the jail? lol not exactly Phil's shining lyrical moment, though the riff still kills imo!
as an Irishman i will always big up our homegrown legends.... and Lizzy definitely deserve the adulation. Please check out 1. Ballad of The Hard Man, 2. Johnny the Fox meets Jimmy The Weed, 3. The Rocker and 4. Vagabond of The Western World, you'll love them all - and I do mean LOVE Respect & Peace
100% about suggestions, exact what i just wrote on another channel asked for popular
songs because it gives more views.. oh, eh..cock. Seen them twice, drummer is underated!
Emerald is raw, but two Radiosongs.., so now dear Kira, a few blasts from their large library:
Opium Trail - ua-cam.com/video/8n5RYRpXgFA/v-deo.html
Got To Give It Up - ua-cam.com/video/Q_LM2UAqbPg/v-deo.html
Killer On The Loose - ua-cam.com/video/2QTtXqDjNP4/v-deo.html
That Woman Gonna Brake Your Heart - ua-cam.com/video/VIdg-i5HS1M/v-deo.html
Cold Sweat - ua-cam.com/video/nMxn2bJQayI/v-deo.html
Thin Lizzy has a wide range of songs. Don't Believe a Word, Massacre, With Love, Roisin Dubh, Toughest Street in Town, Got to Give it Up, That Woman's Gonna Break Your Heart, Wild One, Still In Love With You, Cold Sweat, Baby Please Don't Go are all very different and very good. I might be biased though since it's my favorite band ever.
Now that I have seen the reaction I must recommend Roisin Dubh (Black Rose) A Rock Legend.. cause if you liked Emerald you will love this song..
May I suggest 'Black Rose' next (with Gary Moore on lead guitar):
ua-cam.com/video/TjjpBb9q1PA/v-deo.html
And then 'Still in Love With You' (with John Sykes on Lead guitar):
ua-cam.com/video/tEC7oCA9msI/v-deo.html
Then you might like to dive into Gary Moore's great music -- you'll not find a better guitarist.
Cheers!
NWOBHM, new wave of british heavy metal, its a branch of the heavy metal history, another NWOBHM band you may want to review is Diamond Head
For the next Thin Lizzy video try to listen Black Rose album, the entire album. Their best album by far, an absolute masterpiece.
Good Nicee video !Emerald & Rosin Dubh (Black rose a rock legend) are songs that I like the most from Thin Lizzy! Would recommend Listening to Rosin Dubh amazing guitars by Gary Moore and Scott Gorham. haha
A bit late to this party but here´s my thoughts:
Thin Lizzy was lead by charismatic Philip Lynott, a black irishman.
(The twin guitar sound was formed.)
Later guitarists came n went, among them Phil Lynotts old friend Gary Moore who´s name you should follow up on, but Thin Lizzy around the 1980s is at their peak performance.
Listen to these albums, apart from the L & D -78:
Bad Reputation, Black Rose (w Gary Moore), Chinatown and Renegade.
Their last album Thunder n Lightning has (at least for my ears) a totally different, heavier and more "produced" sound, i suspect much because of their new guitarist John Sykes who later on joined Whitesnake. (You should check out Whitesnake too.)
As a kid i discovered Lizzy with the T&L album but it was only later, when i discovered the earlier stuff that Thin Lizzy/Phil Lynott rose to the top for me.
Many musicians, old and new, name Thin Lizzy as their influence and in my opinion that´s because of their Live sound n performance, especially around aforementioned timeperiod.
hey, can u plz react to Soda Stereo and Spinetta? they are Argentinian legends, it would be great to expand their music to you:). From Soda Stereo I recommend you, Signos (gira me veras volver 2007), En la ciudad de la furia (gira me veras volver 2007) and De Música ligera, the ir most known song. From Spinetta I recommend you La Luz de la Manzana, Bajan (from Pescado Rabioso, one of his bands) and El Anillo del capitan beto (from Invisible, other band of his).
