    Good video. People over-react on the F8. First, it has absolutely zero Heavy Fighter peer to compare it with in the (public) game. The only heavy fighter peer it has is the Ares; which itself is massively out of adjustment & a different style of heavy fighter. Second, the F8 (and other Heavy Fighters behind it) will ultimately break down into the classic skill-cap duality. The F8 at the extreme top end of the skill distribution; the F8 is not the best. Dumb it down the bell curve, and suddenly the "heavy" part of it being a heavy fighter brings it massively to the front of the power list of fighters. That... Is OK... It's not a problem. A $250-300usd heavy fighter using it's strength should be beating $75-200usd fighters being used poorly. Do not head on fight a ship with double the firepower and four times the sustainment... The opposite should also be true. The well flown ship should be able to win against the poorly flown one.
    Both of those realities are proving true for the F8. Top pilots like yourself show that the more agile fighters are still better than competitive. The average person that is not at the top are also finding out a heavy fighter does in fact have more firepower and sustainment; which is leading to a more positive outcome farther down the bell curve.
    Things are improving for sure! The ships and weapons are still not really great taken as a whole, but the F8 is really showing that we can see the separation between ships that have been touched in the last few years and the theme running. Tune the F8 against the two darling light fighters & then put the mediums somewhere in the middle.

    Have used the Tobii for most of my 6 months in Star Citizen and love it after getting everything set right.
    But...
    A week and a half ago someone found a workaround for EasyAntiCheat and vorpx, and I tried it out and can't go back. After some adjustment, the at-scale VR in helmet is way too impressive, even on a cheap Quest 2.
    Dogfights, races, hell just daily Stanton things (tm) are a whole new experience this way. With a HOSAS setup as well, I've been nothing but smiles since I tried it last weekend.

    Strong disagree here as this video proves the point even more with how OP the F8 is. The Fury is supposed to be the greatest weakness for the F8, yet Coldsealion STILL came extremely close to killing your Fury. Does he usually beat you in 1v1's more than you beat him?

    As you demonstrated at 11:35 the F8 pilot can just blow through and continue flying away until his shields are completely back up. Do that enough times and the Fury pilot will eventually make a mistake and die. It doesn't fit the "honorable duel" style that most PvPers use, but it seems like a huge advantage for F8 pilots willing to exploit that advantage. As long as the F8 pilot is patient and cautious enough to disengage whenever his shields are low, it should win an equal skill 1v1 almost every time. I think the big reason your opponents didn't just run whenever their shields were low here is because of the social pressure, but against someone who is actually playing to win at any cost I think the F8's racer top speed is a problem. Of course, the rest of the stats are totally normal for a heavy fighter, but I still think it should be brought down to something a little closer to standard fighter speeds.

    What would be wicked is if, once the flight model is settled, CIG got you and a few other S-Tier PvPers to help advise them in developing training scenarios in AC (a la the training stuff in Elite Dangerous) to really get these kinds of skills into a tutorial. I think CIG would do well to leverage its professional community in making the game better AT LAUNCH, because they can on account of how much flying you guys have gotten in during development.

    I bought the Tobii last week on Amazon Prime day. I configured it to a point that feels pretty natural for me but it still feels pretty stuttery compared to using a mouse to pan your camera. You get used to it but I don't think it's updating my head position at nearly the speed I want.
    I've been trying to mix a little eye tacking in (like 96% on head tracking scale). I feel like that tiny bit of eye tracking paired with a fairly large deadzone and not very high sensitivity on the head gives me the illusion of smoothing things out but I don't know if it's something I'll settle on in the long run when I get more used to aiming my ship at the same time as my head.

    don't think people understand what "Overpowered" really means, just like people don't understand what a "Nerf" really is. The F8C has something that zero other ships can possibly have in the game, something that should not be possible. Something that is there as an artefact from how old the ship really is. It's the Size 2 bubble shield.
    That is all anyone is asking for. Its not a nerf. They aren't making the ship weaker. They are brining it into standard by balancing a bug.
    Balancing an unintentional bug is not a Nerf.

    • @Cjorss
      @Cjorss 10 місяців тому

      I'm not getting into an argument here but I don't think that very specific point is why people are calling it OP. People just mistakenly think it's outrageously good when it's just good. I'm not even sure your example is accurate as the last word I heard on that was a dev saying that it is in a front and back orientation as intended. If that is in fact bugged then for sure it needs to be fixed just like the fact that people are attaching turrets to some of the hard points and giving it 10 weapons. That's obviously a bug and people shouldn't abuse it before it's fixed. But I wouldn't call these bugs a situation worthy of using the terms overpowered or nerfed.

    • @wafflesinsanity
      @wafflesinsanity 10 місяців тому +2

      @@Cjorss not arguing. It's not OP. Its bugged due to being a ship introduced in 2016 with issues from 2016, back when we had bubble shields on all size 2's.
      You can see the bubble shield in this video, so it is very apparent that it does not have front and back shields as intended.
      The turrets were another bug that has already been corrected.
      We agree its not OP, it was never intended to be "OP". Anvil simply marketed it as a space superiority fighter, and in its initial presentation it was marketed as "the best." Which players assumed meant it was defacto the best ship in the game. When it was a sales tactic. Ford has never sold a truck saying "it's properly balanced in the current truck META."
      I just think the community over reacted.

  • @sospeti
    @sospeti 10 місяців тому +4

    I think the F8 is meta right now in dogfight, but that doesn't mean it can't be defeated. A truly skilled pilot in a-say Gladius or Arrow- will smoke the F8, will just dance around and shoot it to pieces. Mind you it is gonna take a while and one mistake you're toast.
    This for me is the best thing in SC, winning or losing a fight doesn't solely depend on the ship one flies, but to a large extent the skill gap between the parties. Having said that I love the F8 and how it flies, in the right hands it is damn near Invincible.

    • @SirSwash
      @SirSwash 10 місяців тому +1

      It can disengage too easily. I agree skill is important, but that same large gap is the whole reason they are making master modes to slow down the fight. A slight decrease in speed and split shield fronts is warranted.

    • @LordAzuren
      @LordAzuren 10 місяців тому +1

      So basically you are telling us that F8C can be smoked out by an even skilled pilot that doesn't make mistakes in a meta fighter but at the same time the f8c is the new meta? I don't see any logic here, reversing your statement it's obvious that every pilot on a light fighter that doesn't make mistakes on his own can destroy the F8C and that's the definition of winning matchup. You can't define as "meta" a ship that has a losing matchup against the actual meta...
      PS: Of course f8c is not trash either, it has his place in the actual game and is a valid ship. But by far is not "near invicible".

    Otherwise very convincing, as well as your discussion with Xerostate and Space. Again it would have been good to know if the same scenario repeats when your squadron is in the F8 and the opposed one in the Hornets.

    Why don’t we see Avenger1 flying the F8C? Is it because no one from his org can kill him while he is in an F8C? If this was a good test you would have switched sides to see if avenger can beat a fury while he’s in an F8C.

    Okay but why doesn't the F8 run a half-gimbal setup against snub fighters if turnrate is its main problem?
    Manual gimbal (non-computer driven) allows you to aim within a whole 60° front cone using your curser (tip of the V-Joy) instead of the nose.
    It also allows for tighter convergence so you don't miss half your shots 'cuz your guns are too far apart.

    I looked at the specs of the F8 on Erkul several days ago. I know specs are just a starting point. The F8C's advantages are high speed, somewhat high roll speed, high damage output, two size 2 shields and relatively good hull durability. It is the second most maneuverable heavy fighter, beaten by the Scorpius in pitch and yaw, but not roll. Every medium, light and snub fighter is more maneuverable, including the Avenger series (a fight against a Warlock might be interesting). I'm not going to go through all of their specs, the F8C only beats some of them in roll. It does beat most of them in speed, meaning it can withdraw from the fight and thus that is how the F8C can control the fight.
    And all of that will change when Master Modes comes along. I expect the F8 already has settings for Master Modes, being as how we expect it to play a role in SQ42.
    Anyway, great fights. To be honest the F8C held up better than I expected against the Fury.

  • @madcatandrew
    @madcatandrew 10 місяців тому

    Huge reason to keep my Scorpius as my heavy fighter, a friend in a turret with quad size 3 guns keeping light fighters off your back is immeasurably valuable, and if anything makes the mistake of ever being in front of you, 8 size 3 guns on a single target are a calamity.
    When I want to be a solo nimble threat there's always the Talon with a nice pair of armor-shredding size 4s. When we get armor mechanics I think a lot of people will be very disappointed with all these size 2 fighter weapons becoming ineffective against medium / large targets. Right now they can chip away at hulls over time relying on attrition alone.

    I mean, everyone that did PvP in the Lightning should be aware of the lack of nose authority compared to all the tried and trusted duelling ships. Which is why I find it to not be SC's F22 that can actually do things that look physically impossible with thrust vectoring. It's more of a F/A-18. It does everything pretty darn alright. It's a good dogfighter. But it's far from the best. Is it worth having a Lightning in your group? Yes. Is it the end all be all? Absolutely not.

    I think there are a number of flaws in the logic here. Firstly, framing it around highly skilled pilots. That's 5% of the game. For the other 95% of players, the reality is that they'll get smashed when facing an F8 as it's configured at present. That's going to be the reality for most people playing SC who are not living in AC. Additionally, these fights to the death are not representative of PU engagements because the moment an F8 pilot sense he or she is facing someone with better skill, they can simply extend away and take advantage of their 1337 top speed. So it may be difficult for an F8 to win some 1v1s, but the pilot can just walk away. Plus, when it's not a 1v1 and part of a squad where targets are focused, all this ship is going to do is kick in some heads. We can exclude the 'yeah but a team of Hornets' anecdote from this because everyone knows that boost on the Hornet is bugged AF at the moment.
    I think the F8 needs one modifier though - and that's to have the shields work like every other ship with an S2 shield, split front and back (already planned).

You can tell he’s good because A1 couldn’t stop his extend even though he knew that’s what he was going for. Most pilots would not be able to hit A1 in this match.

    In space there is no drag. So if you shoot your engines you will accelerate. The more your engines are on the MORE you should accelerate... So there shouldn't be any limit on how fast you can go, only how fast you can reach those speeds via acceleration.

  • @sc_cintara
    @sc_cintara 10 місяців тому

    I think the issue is thinking of the F8 from an in-verse perspective vs thinking of it from an outside-the-game perspective. In-game, it is clearly meant to be a superior ship; it is the newest, most powerful, space superiority fighter; it is an end-game fighter for SQ42. However, from the perspective of Star Citizen (the game itself), the game has to be balanced. If any ship is allowed to stay the meta, that ship will soon be the only one anyone but beginners use. Remember meta doesn't mean "win every fight", it only means "gives everyone the best chance of winning a fight". Once everyone uses the meta ship, everyone is equally powerful again. However, though everyone is roughly equal again, we are all using the same ship now; all variation is gone. Because of this, CIG (so far) work hard to keep the game balanced. They do this primarily by looking at the metrics. Since all communication between game clients is done through the servers, they know *exactly* what happens at all times. Every single hit is registered in the servers; it has to, so servers can distribute the event to all players that should see it. This means that they have perfect transparency on how every ship performs in practice, bullet for bullet. When their metrics over thousands of fights tell them that a ship is winning a higher than expected proportion of fights, they will re-balance. They have to; they aren't going to sacrifice the game. It isn't a matter what we say or how we argue, it is in the metrics. So the only reason I am arguing here is to keep people aware of what CIG are forced to do; what they have always done so far. Avenger might be right and the ship isn't meta; in that case nothing will happen. However if CIG metrics do go over whatever thresholds they use, do not get upset when the balance changes. It has to be done to keep the game playable.

    Don’t know if the build would be any good in high end pvp however I’ve found a lot of success just replacing the cannons with gatlings for the f8c. This allows the distributors to focus on the four main repeaters (over 60 shots before running out) while the gats themselves are used sparingly in very short bursts. I tend to do a little spray here and there once target shields go down and they seem to make a nasty difference and last a good little while when used that way.

As an escort craft it does fairly well largely due to the range allowing it to keep up with most of the industrial ships we use. It's also has the speed to be able to rapidly intercept anything approaching it and the DPS and missiles to at least buy time for the industrial ship to escape.

    These settings are great. Out of the box settings could have your display jerking all over the place and become very disorienting to look at. However, there are 3 settings that I would change from A1's:
    Head Tracking - General Toggle - Disable During mobiGlas = Yes
    Head Tracking - General - Toggle - Disable During Interaction Mode = Yes
    Head Tracking - General - External View - Disabled In Inventory = Yes
    Turning these settings off prevents the screen from moving all over the place when you are trying to use the mobiGlas or interact with buttons in the cockpit. Furthermore, none of these settings are saved in your mappings file. They are in the ..\Client\0\Profiles\default\attributes.xml so if you want to back them up or have trouble using the mouse to adjust any of the number values, you can modify them in notepad and backup this file in a safe place.

    Awesome fights man.
    In the hands of a Mediocre pilot with a proper loadout the F8C is really dangerous in my opinion and makes up for a lot of lacking piloting skills with the strong shields and pure DPS. But with equal skilled pilots it definitely has serious competitors and is not the non plus ultra. When the golden ticket hype was up, a buddy of mine and I did some roaming around Brios in my Scorpius with all stock setup. I am just a casual pilot with keyboard and mouse and we killed 3 solo F8C in a row during 1on1 dogfights while I already ran out of missiles after the second. Only in the end when we faced 2x F8C and a F7C at the same time with one already red wing, we got shot down. I focused too much on one F8C that we got into the red already and the other 2 killed us.
    Overall a Scorpius with a gunner can easily make up for the lower shields and turn rates against a F8C as long as the pilot is able to keep the turret aligned without exposing a full top profile.
