    My brother just got a 14 xcf 250 with 3 hours on it! I'm hoping to get the 16 model for my birthday. The 17 is just too much. Both of us are not allowed to ride or see the bikes until our birthdays, which is October 30th!! The reason I know about the 14, is because I went with them to pick up the bike, we had to act quick because we got such a good deal on the bike!

    My brother has a 2014 KTM 250 XC-F, i rode it and i love it! It has more than enough power, is so light and nimble, is amazing in technical trails and on the MX track. There is great power delivery all around, in the low, mid, and high rpms. Its so fun and smooth to ride, which is very confidence inspiring.

      And at 13:16 you said that this bike doesn't work well in deep sand, but the mx track i rode it at, Gotham Mountain MX in Monticello, NY, is a track that is completely deep sand, but the bike worked great! And I'm not criticizing you, I'm just explaining my experience with the bike. Keep up the great videos!

    Great review! Just picked up a 2017 KTM 250 XC-F. I would agree with just about everything you said. It is a LOT of fun. It has plenty of power for everything I've done on it so far. Handling is excellent. The new AER 48 fork is very very good right out of the box. I'm not sure I would agree they made them easier to work on but that's just my view on it. And I hated the rear hand hold position. It's way to high up and way to slippery. You can't get good leverage there. I put one of the bar style grips that mount to the muffler mounts and it's worlds easier to move the bike with that.Thanks Sam for your generosity in sharing your bike with Kyle and us.

    I always say the gear does not make you a better rider but wait until you get your hands on a 2017 300. After just test riding one 2016 and one 2015 I was not fully convinced the switch from my 350 (2013) was going to be good. But I'm not joking -It made me faster, not as warn out and leaves a big smile on my face.
    No I have EXC so it has kick start as well...

    For the plastics: a racing exhaust line (titanium is the best) and it won’t heat as much
    For the tire : it’s a really soft racing tire, they grip impressively well but are more prone to rupture

    Hey Kyle! Great review on the 2016 KTM 250 xcf. Alright I happen to own the 2016 KTM 350 xcf, 2016 250 xcf, 2012 300xc and the 2011 250 xc (2 stroke-PDS suspension) They all great bikes.... Now lets talk a little about the 2016 KTM 250 xcf. I really love how well balance the 2016 bikes are and the 250 xcf is not exception. The motor and the chassis are great but the suspension not that great for my like. I life in TX and I ride very technical rocky trails. The one thing I notice right away the first day I rode the bike was the deflection on the front forks (4CS) (very unpredictable). Yes you can fix it a little setting the shock high speed from 1 1/2 turn (OEM) out to 2-2 1/2, sliding the forks down to the first line in the top and maybe softening the rear shock. All that will release pressure out the front forks and make the bike more predictable. You can send the forks (4CS) to any suspension tuner and the bike will be a little better but is not the solution. The solution will be to buy a set of "cone valve" forks but I cant afford $3,500 so the real solution for me was swap my 2012 KTM 300xc forks (Close Cartridge) made by Factory Connection and let me tell you guys is DAY AND NIGHT!!! Way more compliance and predictable. Very plush in the bottom with more progressive feel in the rest of the stroke. I used to race Yamaha for years and I always said that the perfect bike will be the KTM motor/chassis with the Yamaha suspension and I think I found the missing link here. The bike feels absolutely amazing everywhere.... Of course I have more goodies on the bike like: Flexx handlebars, Rekluse Clutch and FMF 4.1 full exhaust system, but that is my preferences on the bike. My advise is for you guys out there find a old Close Cartridge forks and re valve it to your riding skills and you will have a near PERFECT BIKE. I hope this information help and thank your great videos and information. Braapppp! Jerry 214

    Don't worry so much about that backup kick starter. I do almost no maintenance on my battery in my 2016 250xcf or 2013 350xcf, and have never once had a problem. Weight is key, and as such KTM will never put that on any of the XC or SX models. We've done multiple long distance rides 600-800+ miles and never once ran into a battery or starter issue (on the four strokes that is). All of my bikes get treated to a Rekluse Core EXP as well, so bump starter requires more work, but never had to use that option. Good review!
    p.s. If you don't have enough power to run 6th, you're going too slow ;)

    • @DirtBikeChannel

      We were going at top speed. There isn't enough power at this altitude to pull 6th on this bike.

    Sweet video. I will say, 250s definitely eat valves and timing chains much faster than 450s. Not sure if it's always beating on it or just the high revving nature. My fiance has a 250 and she's not very aggressive by any means. But still shimming and changing timings chains quite often.

    A good comparison yet to do would be the 250 XCF VS the 350 XCF. Similar weights and so forth, but motor character will be totally different. I would be VERY interested to know your opinion thus far between them, since the 250F has gotten so much better.

  • @leroywilliams7210

    I think you're power is enough idea is great for the average lighter weight rider, many of us are over 200lbs and like steep nasty hills and the 250s I've ridden didn't have it.

    Hi Kyle,I am getting ready to get another dirt bike, I was set on a 20, or21 yz250fx, then I seen one of these (2018 KTM XC-f 250), I’m 60 yrs old and still ride aggressive, I’m more into trails than tracks, but do enjoy both, In your opinion, which do you think would be better, I’m 5’ 9” @190 lbs.

    Now that you've ridden both '17's the 250 XCF and 300 xc how would you say they stack up. Im looking into a new bike and I'm stuck between the two 250 versions. I love my current 250xc, but the thought of not premixing gas, better mileage and never F-ing jetting again makes me smile.

    • @DirtBikeChannel
      @DirtBikeChannel  8 років тому +1

      I prefer the 2 stroke version and it's not even a close call. They 250XC-F is a really fun bike, it it's not as capable in my opinion as an "all around" bike if you know what I mean.

      Dirt Bike Channel right on, I can deffinatly see pros and cons to both but you just affirmed what I was already thinking. all I'm really doing is racing Harscrambles and Enduros, I'm still pretty torn here.

    I was wondering, you say that if you could get 250 hours on this bike you would choose this one.. specifically, pertaining to amount of hours.. does that mean 250 hours before a major maintenance is required? I am unfamiliar with Ktms and I am wondering about reliabity.. what is the timeline for required maintenance... valve replacement .. engine rebuild... I am interested in knowing what major bike manufacturer, ktm, yamaha, Honda.. is offering the best bike pertaining to the longer duration before major maintenance is suggested or required.. thank you.

    The kick start is a huge issue for me. I ride by myself alot and generally miles from anywhere. Not the safest thing in the world but it is what it is. lol
    Having to carry an extra battery around would be a pain in the rear and hopefully we will see the kick start on next year's model. Great video Kyle and Sam!

      I agree, we ride pretty far out with some steep hills and if you're stuck at the bottom w no kickstart you're hosed. It's not just the battery either, I've had the relay go out on the 1st day of a 4 day trip, called every KTM shop in a 100 miles no one carried it...

    Great review as usual guys. Kyle I've been running the 250FX for last year and really like it. However the weight and top heaviness gets to me at times. I have only road the 14' 250XCF with the old chassis and prefer the FX to that. The 16' does interest me a lot for a future bike. Was the slow speeding cornering and overall flickability that much better than the FX? Could you notice the lower weight quite a bit? and finally did it lug as well in the low R's. I tend to ride a gear tall so Im curious about that.

    • @DirtBikeChannel

    4 years too late but I’m regards to the battery,not really sure why you’d have an issue with a battery if you keep it on a tender,I desert ride my 19kx450 and haven’t had one issue with a battery,so was the bike being ridden a lot without being charged? There are even weeks at a time I wouldn’t charge my 19 kx450 and I’d take it out and it never failed to start. Just curious about that battery issue because I found a 2020 ktm 250xcf I was thinking of picking up just for mellow ride days when I don’t wanna get worn out from the 450 power,but this battery issue scares me now from buying one lol 😂

    I must say I really like your reviews, however i don't get one thing. Do you really need closed-course XC-f for amateur riding and longer trips? Linkage, No headlight, no kickstarter, starting problems. I have great news for You guys. KTM already has the solution. All You are asking for is 250 exc-f (especially the previous version with build in kick). Way better for slower, technical stuff as well. Fast enought for all of us. Mike

    I know this is an old video, but I just had to comment. I could not agree more about the desire for a kick starter. I don't know what it is with people who like electric start, but if you have ever been stranded with a dead battery then you know how valuable a kick starter is. I absolutely HATE electric start in ever single situation. Yes my leg gets tired after long rides, but at least I have no fear of being screwed miles away from the truck. Electric start should go away.

    get another mic, jeez..

    • @DirtBikeChannel
      @DirtBikeChannel  8 років тому +1

      Another $500 wireless mic and another $300 console to get 2 inputs into the camera at the same time. Then a rig to hold that console on the tripod and the camera at the time time. All this to compliment the $10K+ in video equipment I use here for a video that barely pays me a thing :(
