that is great cover on Zepps version of Levee breakes. Down feels the Blues vibe so well, turning it into southern metal sound. Brilliant, nothin more to say
@sleeperkickers This is not Metal. This band does not sound like Pantera. It IS sloppy bullshit, but I fucking love it because it's 5 Southern NOLA guys covering a song by a band they love...for fun. It sounds like they recorded it in a garage; and if you can't cover a song you like in your garage, then you aren't having fun doing it.
southern blues is the mother of rock and roll and metal and just about everything else as well. everything worth a shit can be traced back to the south!!!
@fupasack2 yeah.. happens all the time to me and my bandmates too lol... we wrote a whole song one night and realized the next day that it was pretty much Black Magic and Spirit Crusher combined lol..
AHHHAH. @sleeperkickers. This fool said try meshuggah, and that down is pantera without the talent. While it is half of pantera, and yes its not dime but its still good. Its different. WE NEED this shit still. And as far as the song. THIS COVER KILLS. thatisall.
@sleeperkickers You mention that Zeppelin didn't rip off any blues artists, they idolized them. Do you think that the members of Down don't idolize Led Zeppelin?
the riff after 5.08 doesnt belong there its not in the original version it sounds awesome does anyone have an idea where that riffs from or how to play it?
I know you were. Zeppelin didn't change the name of those songs, so how are they not simply covers with their own spin on it? (the Stairway progression I'll give you, although it's really not that similar)
did you even read my comment? there is a video series that a guy posts from time to time and hundreds of other videos that are similar that other users post. the one i watch occasionally is called "metal that sounds like other metal". its by baknblack. he has near a hundred videos. and thats just one user covering one genre of music. like i said, it happens most likely more by accident than any thing else. i know it because i play the guitar and have done it by accident.
Zeppelin have actually been accused of plagiarism numerous times. Stairway to Heaven was copied from a band that used to play with Zeppelin. The writer didn't sue them, he just wanted a thank you. He never received it.
@revrend2 ALL musicians have influences and it comes thru. Robert Johnson used other guys shit with a few changed lyrics, and ZEPPELIN took alot of influences of all kinda genres and mixed it in to create absolutely GENIUS music. It's how it works just do what sounds good to you and is from the heart, and that makes TRUE art.
@sleeperkickers Actually, there are quite a few documented cases of Zep ripping off other songs. And they have apologised for those. Zeppelin is my favorite band in the universe and the whole reason I play drums is John Bonham. But dude. Totally ripped off quite a few of their songs.
@PrisyazhnyukMike It won't be as good as NOLA, as much as I support Down and see them EVERY time they come over to the UK. What I mean is that NOLA is just one of those albums...
I'm sure they do, it's just they obviously covered Zeppelin's take on it. Honestly the only similar thing is the lyrics, the song pretty much belongs to Zeppelin.
@atl2410 - to be fair, Meshuggah, Tool (and A Perfect Circle) are great bands, I couldn't live without them. Plus Tool and APC have both done brilliant covers of Zep songs (No Quarter in Tool's case, this song in APC's), doing something completely different to Zep, making them their own, which I think is cool. Down aren't really doing anything new, it's a fanboyish tribute and none the worse for that! Both ways are equally valid. This is a bit rough around the edges, but that gives it character.
What the hell about his tone is similar to the Jonas Brothers', or if someone liking his tone is synonymous with blowing the Jonas brothers, is what I wanna know. And anyway, if his tone is the sole reason for you disliking the band you must just not like hard rock music.
wait this bands singer is phil ansomol right ? (singer for pantera) and the guitar track is too dirty(too distorted, tuned to low, too much reverb, bad amp channels)
@sleeperkickers mesuggah is ok tool is ok when you're in the mood but they are two very over Produced albums this shit is fucking raw talent DOWN kicks the shit out of both tool and mesuggah
actually tool did no quarter and apc DOES do this song. its even on c.d. so get your facts right before you put someone down in front of the whole world. no quarter is on tools album salival, and when the levee breaks is on apc's emotive.
pretty much every good band from the sixties and seventies got sued for something like that. you should search youtube for metal and rock songs that sound alike. it happens all the time in music probably more by accident than anything else
Maybe it was plagarism, but I doubt it sometimes, because they covered those songs with good intentions, the bluesmen were the biggest inspiration to the band, why would they just "rape" them of their art?
hey man they payin tribute whats with all the arguing?>DOWN is themselves an awesome band let them pay tribute to one of the bands that influenced them to jam like they are doing today
If you like 60+ year aged whisky. You can get a 67 year old at the Whisky Academy.com. It's only 100.000,- £ ;-) Enjoy Btw Down hasn't got quite the same nerve as LZ - just my opinion.
all I'm saying is i don't like his tone, but if you want to get technical with skills between me and him, fine tell me Kirk's best work. becuase so far i'm not impressed
I want a studio version of this cover so badly...
This is actually a nice cover and adds to the dense atmosphere that this song is supposed to have.
the soul of this song is the drum and they just kill it
Literally one of the best covers I've ever heard.
that is great cover on Zepps version of Levee breakes. Down feels the Blues vibe so well, turning it into southern metal sound. Brilliant, nothin more to say
The album title "Bussel in Your Hedge Row" is a line from Stairway.......
Strong version.Thankyou for sharing.
DOWN=SUPERGROUP Thank you DOWN, Rock N Roll!!!!

I saw them opening for AC/DC, they really know how to put on a show!
Saw them open for Metallica in November 2008. Killer show. 🤘
Badass track
my fav zeppelin song
Down is one of the best bands around today. And this is a fucking awesome cover.
It's a Louisiana blues song written by Memphis Minnie in the early 30's. Zepplin didn't write it.
Aaaaawesome.... \m/
Phil is the man!
been blaring this and the Led'd version the past few weeks in Natchez hopin' they don't break like in NOLA during Katrina
Great!
PLEASE MAKE A STUDIO VERISON

Phil, one of the best along with Pepper!!!!
It's interesting to think of Jimmy's riffs in a metal context. Look how well it works out.
Exactly
Levee's riff sounds very metal even in the original song
Jimmy WAS metal. Still is.
Rock not metal @@georgeadams350
OH MY GOD THIS IS WHAT I NEEDED TO HEAR! \m/ LIFER \m/
I love it, I would really like to hear them guys cover some lynyrd !
+Joel Scheike google corrosions on the hunt
DAMN...I DIDN'T KNOW THIS SONG COULD GET HEAVIER AND STILL BE OK!! - F N A PHIL !!!
what an unfortunately appropriate song for a New Orleans band to play... down is the best! Long Live NOLA!!
@fupasack2 yeah.. happens all the time to me and my bandmates too lol... we wrote a whole song one night and realized the next day that it was pretty much Black Magic and Spirit Crusher combined lol..

@sleeperkickers Phil and Rex are from Pantera, duh. thats why they sound like pantera
That guitar sound is like 60 year aged whiskey.

good cover
AHHHAH. @sleeperkickers.
This fool said try meshuggah, and that down is pantera without the talent. While it is half of pantera, and yes its not dime but its still good. Its different. WE NEED this shit still. And as far as the song. THIS COVER KILLS. thatisall.
Fucken epicness!!!
The intro reminds me of Stargazer.
@sleeperkickers You mention that Zeppelin didn't rip off any blues artists, they idolized them. Do you think that the members of Down don't idolize Led Zeppelin?
I do, when I get chance I'll throw em up on here too.
sorry cochran8201 but that is definitly Phil singing this without a doubt. Phenominal cover done by Down i must say!!
well. Kirk did cover that with his other band Crowbar on their Self Titled.
Argueing about REAL music on utube. Wow.
Checked out the songs youve mentioned...none of them beats Pantera or this cool Led cover by Down.
Down's version is so different, they really made it their own
Led Nazareth ! 🌟
where you get this track? its not on any of my down cd's? this is the first i have heard of down covering led zepp!!!!!
the riff after 5.08 doesnt belong there its not in the original version
it sounds awesome does anyone have an idea where that riffs from or how to play it?
@TheDullahan yeah it is...
I know you were. Zeppelin didn't change the name of those songs, so how are they not simply covers with their own spin on it? (the Stairway progression I'll give you, although it's really not that similar)
@jessicazepplified you wanna get married? Never met you, but just those three lines of text is a damn good start!
did you even read my comment?

Another statement from a clueless individual
Opinions are like assholes, and I am not into assholes.
is there anywhere to buy this version? what else did they do in their BBC session?
pepper rulz!!!!
Freaking awesome! Kinda Zakk Wylde-ish lol
that is an excellent cover . down should cover more zepplin
actually its not a led zep song they jsut made it popular
@Kaosmanaaa LMAO yes, being high is one major reason for being into Down's music, it's true - do some research.
Phil Anselmo can nail anything lmao
@revrend2 ALL musicians have influences and it comes thru. yea implying that down wasnt talented which is completely bullshit because they have more talent than 95% of bands out there today
Epic Anselmo 3:03
Nick Nikitopoulos VERY Down III. When he was doing that high, raspy thing. YOU WANT NOTHING IN RE-TUR-UR-URNNNNN
@PrisyazhnyukMike It won't be as good as NOLA, as much as I support Down and see them EVERY time they come over to the UK. What I mean is that NOLA is just one of those albums...
@sleeperkickers HA!
@theEddievanhalen Zep never wrote this song.
@Cochran8201 So you've been listening to them since you were 6 years old? Sorry dude, but I don't find it hard to beleive this is Phil singing at all.
I like it. But I like just about anything with heavy distortion and a slide...
I'm sure they do, it's just they obviously covered Zeppelin's take on it. Honestly the only similar thing is the lyrics, the song pretty much belongs to Zeppelin.
Or simply Lemmy Kilmister :D
@atl2410 - to be fair, Meshuggah, Tool (and A Perfect Circle) are great bands, I couldn't live without them. pretty much every good band from the sixties and seventies got sued for something like that. you should search youtube for metal and rock songs that sound alike. it happens all the time in music probably more by accident than anything else
Anselmo=Dios
then i guess thats my bad then
sick! only bands like Down shud b alowed to cover the Gods
Maybe it was plagarism, but I doubt it sometimes, because they covered those songs with good intentions, the bluesmen were the biggest inspiration to the band, why would they just "rape" them of their art?
@paskiiainen Phil Anselmo all day.
I would respect it just fine if not for the "if you like Down you must wanna blow the Jonas Brothers" comment
hey man they payin tribute whats with all the arguing?>DOWN is themselves an awesome band let them pay tribute to one of the bands that influenced them to jam like they are doing today
