Phil's bark-growl-grunt at 1:41 is sooo fuckin badass....Down is rock&roll to the core,in its purest form....for selfish reasons I'm sorta glad they never got huge cuz I've been able to see them in small venues but on the other hand I think of all the people who like rock&roll yet have never heard Down,if they only knew what they were missing
Phil is a god. Pantera, Down, COC, Eyehategod, Crowbar are gods! We are certainly blessed to have this music in our lives!!!!!!!! Fuuuuuuukk yeah!!!! 🤘🤘🤘🤘
i'm a big zep fan and very critical of covers, but this is bad ass and obviously heart-felt coming from a new orleans band...this NEEDS to be on their next album
Down! Kick off show in Hamburg, Germany! All wallet chains confiscated, no nothing allowed. Dime experience for free.. And Phil was so scared and Kirk was such a great friend. And we all lived this with Phil..
From Minnie to Zep, from Blackie to Phil and on to whoever covers it next; great song and great job keeping great music alive... and thanx to rawful for posting.
I'm a huge LZ fan...seen them 77 at the Pontiac Stadium...been in love with Robert Plant all my life...so I'm a harsh critic on their music...but I have to say, I really like this version.
Jack White is quoted as saying: "Led Zeppelin are an immovable force in music. I don't trust anyone who doesn't like them." Let. Those. Words. Sink. In. Btw, this version of "Levee" is heavy AF. Dang!
Wow... just wow. Soon as I found out about this I had to hear it - I knew this would be an amazing cover, after how affected Down were by Hurricane Katrina. Phil sounds like Matt Pike here! A great tribute TO a great band BY a great band.
This song probably takes on a personal meaning to the band as they remain loyal to their New Orleans roots and they perhaps sing this song as it relates to the Katrina hurricane disaster of 05.
I love the original by Kansas Joe McCoy & Memphis Minnie, but it's always fun to hear cover versions that really take a song into different territory. Not bad, not bad at all.
You know Zeppelin re-worked this song. It was originally an old blues song by a fella by the name of Kansas Joe McCoy and Memphis Minnie..... I like this Down cover too. It'd be cool to see them do a whole album of cover songs.
i came back to listen a second time and yea I hear phil more now. Honestly, the high notes and grittiness just doesn't sound like him. Almost like he's puttin on a voice! Touche, Mr, Touche
Hell yeah. I've been building a list in my head for over 20 years. I think it'd be easier to make a list of songs you wouldn't want to hear them cover.
Thinking of that makes me shiver, like a DOWN covers album and a rerecord or something of this on it too. Imagine, they did say they were gonna hop back into the studio soon
Blues metal...now I've heard it all. I dig this version, yeah. But it brings some interesting images to mind. (Have you _ever_ thought of Robert Johnson headbanging while playing a flying-V guitar??)
Zepplin's version sounds like the band is noticing a light thunderstorm outside while this version sounds like the Mississippi itself is flooding the studio
last months he's been getting better and better again, on sonisphere nijmegen, where I saw him live with down, he screamed as if it were Pantera in 1992.
lmao When the Levee Breaks was already a cover, one of an old blues song from 1929, and after hearing that one, barring Phil's vocals, this actually feels pretty faithful to it if you ask me
@bkm504 Phil produced the self titled album from Crowbar, and No Quarter was on it... I know my shit, and I know he wasn't in the band, but he worked with Crowbar on that disc.
This is a live BBC session. Imagine if they put out this cover on a studio record. It'd sound great. Hell, they might put it on one of the next 3 upcoming EP's. That'd be cool.
This is what my generation "Generation X" does out of RESPECT to the "Great Iconic Metal Masters" rock on brothers. Anyone else cover this and has this kind of true one hundred percent honor and not stray from the original? I think not!
Slayer? Slipknot? Messuga? Megadeth? Even every other thing Phil has done lol heavy doesn't always mean good but i do like the cover just not super heavy
@backdoorloverboy I think one of the reasons why I really love this version is because I did not expect them to cover Led Zep....You expect metal bands to cover other metal songs and black sabbath songs.....but it never occurred to me that they have/can cover Led Zep! Not trying to say that Led Zep were not heavy metal or anything but I hope you get my point....

i prefer cyndi lauper
I seen Down with Crowbar at the Cannery in Nashville. I've been to 1000's of shows, that one was top 5 for sure.
Phil is a god. Pantera, Down, COC, Eyehategod, Crowbar are gods! We are certainly blessed to have this music in our lives!!!!!!!! Fuuuuuuukk yeah!!!! 🤘🤘🤘🤘
Can't believe I just now found this...Unreal cover!! Allhaildown! Hope this is released on the next album or dvd.
Love Led Zeppelin so much! Good cover version, boys! ❤
Oh, my God. I love this. This is epic. This is cataclysmic. This is magnificent. This is eerie. THANK GOD FOR LED ZEPPELIN !!!!
THANK SATAN FOR DOWN miss Stephens.
They make this song their own. Excellent in every way. Can't believe it's been around since 08. Found it on Kyuss World
i'm a big zep fan and very critical of covers, but this is bad ass and obviously heart-felt coming from a new orleans band...this NEEDS to be on their next album

A true Masterpiece!! Well done!! What a great cover!
Long live Phil and RIP Dime!!
I have to listen to this at least once per year, so awesome!
Thank you for being so edgy
@@dionysusincarnate5713hope you’re well
The dirty sound is what makes it so great!
I love the end of the song where they just go mad and do whatever they want. I would love an entire Down album of Led Zeppelin covers.
this is so sick....Down simply is the best band out there and, in my humble opinion, will remain as such for quite some time to come.
i know that's gotta be Pepper doing the slide, sick ass version!
I'm a huge LZ fan...seen them 77 at the Pontiac Stadium...been in love with Robert Plant all my life...so I'm a harsh critic on their music...but I have to say, I really like this version.

My favorite band covering my favorite Zeppelin track? My prayers has been answered!!
Well fuck me. How am I just hearing this cover?!?
Raised on Zeppelin and been with Down since Thier fuckin roots. Great tune, fellas. Hail 🤘🔥🤘

My favorite Led Zep song played by my favorite band.
Some things just cant go wrong.
I played this version every day we had high water from Baton Rouge to New Orleans. Thanks for not breaking the levee's, Phil.
Awesome cover!
I just loved the heavy riffs on this one...and Phil doesn't sound himself!
Great job on an already amazing song!
For some reason, I can see Phils voice fitting perfectly with many a Zeppelin covers if they attempted more. But thats just my opinion...
Damn right. Just dirtier and heavier.
This song probably takes on a personal meaning to the band as they remain loyal to their New Orleans roots and they perhaps sing this song as it relates to the Katrina hurricane disaster of 05.
Perfect cover for a metal band from the gulf coast to do. Wwell done!
Smoking a clove and totally feeling this. What a fucking ace cover.

True & powerfull blues rock!
This is a god send
yea he does a great job of covering plant...also phil is amazing at covering ozzy
I would like Down to cover the Nazareth, ‘Hair of the Dog’ album minus Love Hurts. Judas Me with Phil's pipes would be killer.
Yea

This has to be remastered now!!!!!
wow ... i'm a great Zepps fan ... damn good cover version

This tune is so fucking good it.... Pure aggression and attitude. Down kicks ass!
Awesome cover! Yeah the sound is a little much, but this wasn't designed to be pretty anyway. Love that gnarly sound.....
It's a live demo
@Belgdor Here in the south shoes are optional, as are shirts, its just how we're raised.
never heard Phil hit these registers
this is so bad ass. LOVE IT \m/
thanks for educating people :)
DOWN could cover any song and it would be badass!
Thanks for sharing this. I haven't heard this before. Some badassery right here. \,,/ -_- \,,/
I think the drumming in the song Pillamyd is even more badass
this is when phil was going through his hippy stage lol
took me .5 seconds to decide i fucking love this version \m/
wow usually zep covers suck but this is a great cover!! i love it!!! wish it was on a cd
All Led Zeppelin songs are covers

I love this shit! Down is incredible, they take an old classic rock hit, and made it a great southern heavy song. Led Zeppelin is amazing, so is Down

it's a really old blues song. zep did by far the most famous arrangement of the song, and when people cover it, that is what they base the cover on.
To bad that this wasn't on Over the Under. It's maybe best this way, because now it's like a hidden golden gem for all fans :)
Sounds like vinyl. Digging it.
Agreed Man, This song rocks
