Thanks for your video Rick, It was really a help. I'm 78 y/o and have a very similar one although it was a 4 amp, 6-12V I bought in 1972-73 (!!!) when I bought my first motorcycle. It still worked up until last month. My contacts didn't seem bad so I passed by them and went to the voltage test and was at 0.00 V but because of your video I went straight back to the contacts and made them shine like a brand new copper penny. (Does anyone remember pennies?) Almost 14V instantly! I found you by searching UA-cam "troubleshooting a battery charger". It wasn't the charger that needed the troubleshooting...it was its owner---me. The charger just needed basic maintenance.
Awesome. Glad it helped. It should go another 20 years!
Same here just some corroded wires right inside the box
Crazy. I checked those, but will double check them.
Well why thank you kind Sir taking the time out to show us how to troubleshoot these things 👍
me too ..connection at clamp was my problem
Thank you sr
Mine had broken positive wire at the clamp. Insulation was just barely keeping the clamp attatched. Open circuit, the Charger will display 0.00 volts.
I had that exact same problem with my multi meter XD!
1hanks.. Thumbs Up!!! I hope mine is as easy as that.
Well, that was a simple fix. I sometimes overlook the simple faults.
No doubt. I was going into it expecting things to be much worse. I should have known better.
Found this old battery charger. Tested the clamps an 12 volts and got a reading of 10.9 bolts. The clamps look a little dirty. Could cleaning them get me higher voltage? And after cleaning and it’s still 10.9 volts does that mean Charger is no good?
Not sure, there are not many parts in this to go bad. The transformer is about it besides the connections to the cables. I would test or re-solder the cables to the clamps.
Thanks that what it was a bad connection at the clamp. 😮😅
yes, only when bent or moved a certain way.
Unfortunately my Stanley car charger looks to be the newer types and it came broken brand new, second hand :/.
What if my charger doesn't even ummmm
