    One thing i found easier for me was connecting my carton cutter (knife) to a retractable string thing that connects to my belt loop on my pants, so i just grab the knife, cut the box and let go of the knife and it just retacts back to my hip, instead of constantly geting it in and out of my pocket 😁

    Was a stocker/night manager. Pretty laid back job if you can learn to ignore the store managers who want you to do the impossible. I loved working overnight because the night goes by so fast. That’s one of the things I miss, and the crew we had some great times. Just beware of the sacrifice you make by taking on a night job this demanding I wouldn’t recommend it if you have a social life lol.

      Jay Starling eh, i’m currently an overnight manager and I have a really active social life. It’s doable. Being a big hockey fan I played on 3 different hockey teams and currently running my own business. While also having time for family parties and hanging out with friends. I also picked up extra hours in different stores.
      I love the overnight, exactly for the reasons you listed.

      That's what I need to learn how to do. It seems I don't have it in me to ignore those crazy bastards managers, but others do. So I should be able to do it as well. I just don't know how,? Please help. I really like this job, but these managers are beyond irrational borderline crazy with their expectations of a new hire. Specially in a store that has been improperly stocked for years! Nothing is where it belongs. So you spend enormous amounts of time relocating items to their correct location before you can even think about your department.

    I switched from 2nd shift to overnight, I would definitely say the hardest part is outside of work (sleep schedule, appointments, events, etc...) after a month of overnight I am already looking to switch back to 2nd shift. Personally the overnight bonus was not worth it however experiences will vary by person. I'd recommend trying to make friends with co-workers and bring your music it will make your night go by much faster.

      @@renesalinas8397 sucks ass dude ngl I transfered departments after a year and half. The department is constantly losing people and it's a lot of hard work that ends up on you if you stay. You don't leave til the job is done and if you DO decide to leave before the job is done like let's say you work 8-4, if you leave at 4 and the work still isn't done (99% of the time it isnt) they will be passive aggressive towards you and schedule you less or isolate you. This has happened to most people who work the department. Your body will hurt like hell, no sleep, feel like shit all the time, the scheduling is random each week so you never know if you are going to work 5 days on 2 days off or some I've seen 4 days off but then they work 10 days in a row!
      The only plus side, for my store at least, you get a shit ton of hours because we are always understaffed so you have to pick up the work load for those who aren't there. My friends are hitting 70+ hours every week. It's also near impossible to move up beyond stock controller which most people don't want that responsibility anyways for an extra $1. Once they see you are good, they will never let you go because a good stocker is hard to come by. Another positive though is I've seen people go from $15/hr to $20/hr in 2 years or less. But the reason they did this at my store is because so many people were leaving and they were doing everything to keep the stockers that they did still have. The nights are always long, you will almost always be working 10+ hrs a day which doesn't sound bad until you realize how much of a toll it takes on your body and mental health. The veteran stockers I know who have worked there making 20÷ are ready to call it quits because managers are never happy, if you are still stocking when the store opens no matter the circumstances, they don't care. They will literally tell you "it's not hard, it's easy, why aren't you guys done?! You guys need to work faster" it just completely diminishes morale to where even 20/hr isn't even enough to keep the staff.
      I understand now why they tried to scare me during the interview. I've even seen people quit 4hrs into their shift.
      However if you do plan on sticking it out, my advice to you to get a good raises (which you get every 6 months until you hit midpoint btw) and a good reputation is to focus on speed speed speed! It's important to learn where everything is yes and they will tell you that, but I promise they care more about speed and accuracy over you memorizing aisles. And by accuracy I mean placing the items in the correct spots on the shelf. Just bring headphones and go HAM when stocking (throwing) they will be very impressed with you if they see how fast you are with everything they do because like most places, everyone hates training people because it slows the team down so just do your best bro! GL! If you want to transfer and still want to work overnight I highly recommend TSST

    Nice editing! To add to the tips for stocking, rotate food items. New products go in the back of the shelve, old gets pushed foward. Also use proper form when lifting anything heavy that's. Thats super important. When i did overnight stocking, so many people would complain about back pain. Try and take care of yourself, dont run yourself into the ground working this job. It can be strenuous, and working at night is another challenge. Eat healthy, if possible, drink plenty of water while working and dont skip out on sleep! Working while sleepy sucks ass! Caffeine will be your best friend. Im sure during closed hours youll be able to listing to music. Listen to podcast if you havent before , theirs such a hugh variety podcast to keep you entertained. I always recommend The Joe Rogan Experience podcast, endless amounts of great guests from various backgrounds, very informative and interesting. Good luck!

    At my store the dayshift unloads the truck and places food and health/beauty on different pallets , then they stock the shelves until their shift is over. I work evenings, so I try to finish the pallets and also stock the reach-in drink cooler. Then I am also responsible to take out the trash and cardboard and sweep and mop the WHOLE store at closing.

    Newbie questions for experienced folks
    Does "LV" refer to "Live"?
    What is meant by a "double truck"? Two trucks per night?
    What is "blocking"? Lining up rows?
    What is "double facing" Bringing more than one row of product to the front?
    In grocery aisles too narrow for a skid, does pre-spotting improve or hurt speed?

    • @No1zHerO
      @No1zHerO  4 роки тому

      LV means Low Velocity Double truck im not sure ?? lol

    • @troycampbell1995
      @troycampbell1995 3 роки тому +1

      Double truck means you have one grocery truck come and drop their load off. Then a second truck comes with more shit to stock. It’s a pain in the ass. Especially if you work for Walmart. Now I’m working at Winn-Dixie as a overnight manager. I love the system Walmart has for grocery stocking. Winn-Dixie is so difficult. Also, many companies will watch to see who the best is out of the crew and they will use you until you go nuts. But if you can’t get past the stocking part, it pays off. Especially a store merchandise manager. Then becoming a store manager. Most store managers started off in the grocery department. My guess is because you’re always around people interacting with them and work at the same time. That shows the bosses above you that you can work under being distracted and also showing great customer service at the same time.

    Great job on making a UA-cam channel for this stuff! I had been thinking of starting something like this back in the day but never did...but am glad someone else has!
    I haven't watched many of your videos, but will watch more and will suggest things that may add to improving workflow in the comments. For instance, the section with you guys breaking down the pallets...your team mates are going so slow: get those dudes to sweat! ;) I can also understand that you have what looks like a difficult area to break down: all linear with constricted mobility. :(
    At the last place I worked, they liked to do something like that (and they also broke down onto pallets). I found this place between the meat bunkers where we broke stuff down, and there was enough room to have four pallets on either side with two full ones in the middle. It gave the shortest route possible to each empty pallet, and as they filled up, I had another guy (or myself) spot the built-up pallet while dropping a new empty one, then bringing out two more to break down. On the days that I was in charge, it took two of us less time to do it than it took four of us to do the same the other way.
    It's just all about constant improvement in technique with these jobs: as long as you have your head on straight, you'll keep getting better and better, I would say to anyone listening.

    80 cases an hour in insane. I’m the Assistant Grocery Manager at Sprouts Farmers Market and their expectation for day stockers is 40-60 CPH. We actually don’t even do night stocking since we’re a low-volume store. I probably do in fact throw 80 CPH but that’s because I order our trucks, know what I ordered, can identify most products just based off of the box, and know where everything goes. Our CPH is a little lower due to the amount of customer service we do (lots of customers ask for assistance with reaching and locating products, etc.) but I can see why new employees at these higher-volume stores would be intimidated with starting out. Good tips, man!

    • @No1zHerO

      Nice brother !! It’s not really complicated but a lot of memorization does come into play , learning boxes and isles , along with learning where the product goes , you will get it brother

  • @JakeOwnage123

    Wow... Well yalls heb seems a lot more efficient. Where im at as soon as we clock in we immediately start downstacking the truck into the aisles. Then when we are done everyone goes to LV and separates the pallets based on the aisle then we downstack those and then when thats done we empty the carts from the backstock. But basically once you are done stocking completely you do the riser and then block it.

    I've just started and already getting pressured to move faster even if the job is not done right. I'm consistently finding staff mistakes in aisles and sometimes the only way to put fresh product out is to remove several rows of product that had been put in its spot when it's not meant to be there 😖

      Same... I was getting pressured today to move faster . Either way I got things done..I just gotta learn my over stock and know when things will be over stocked or not so I won’t have to try to stock it so the process will be faster
