Just asking for clarification, where was in the source article under The Perpetual Foreigner that referenced AAPI not being "real" American because they just arrived here post 1965 in large numbers, because I couldn't find it referenced in the source article and it's obvious Asians have been noticeably present in the US much earlier, i.e. Filipino in the early 1900s post American-Filipino War and Chinese even further back in the 1800s. Regardless, I can see why Asians in general are considered perpetual foreigners, despite being part of American history in various aspects. Also in regards to the anecdotal example of a lot of Filipino friends feeling the perpetual foreigner pressure, would the relationship between the Philippines and the United States have some reason for that, given that the US had a mission of "Civilizing and Christianizing" the Philippines post Filipino-American War, which would mean American culture/norms/values be a part of Filipino culture, hence the familiarity and less pressure?
@ᜑᜎᜒᜌ Better to be educated and be aware of the truth. History is dirty and ugly at times, but better to have an understanding of the past so we can make better decisions rather than remain ignorant. @ᜑᜎᜒᜌ And once again how narrow minded your field of vision is; practically everything is politically motivated and politicized, the whole notion of the Asian stereotypes are politically motivated; the model minority has been used politically use a minority against other minorities, yellow peril was used not only during the Chinese exclusion act and WWII, but even during the 70s and 80s to describe how Japanese automakers were outselling the american auto industry, the "primative villager" was used by America to justify their campaign of "civilizing and christianizing" the Philippines because they were now their unofficial "protectorate" after the Filipino-American war; majority of these stereotypes politically motivated to move an agenda and denigrate a group. You can go ahead and deny it all you want, that's your prerogative, however it still doesn't change that the scars left by both the Spanish and the US have left influences on the Philippines and her people, no matter how subtle it is.
I don't have the source you're asking for, but to give you some context or observation, even though Asians have existed throughout American history, we've been pretty much forced into Asian ghettos in major cities. So even if on paper, it seems like a city has a large Asian population, if you actually go to the city, Asians will be difficult to find unless you go to the local Chinatown. All these Chinatowns are essentially Asian ghettos. Historically, Asians have been redlined by homeowners from purchasing houses anywhere other than in their respective Chinatown. It's not some conspiracy, but white people selling their homes will just not sell to Asians. Buffalo, NY is a good example, there is a large Asian population there, but you'll be hard pressed to see any Asians unless you go to Chinatown. Hell, look at Florida, they recently passed a law preventing Asians from purchasing property. Yes, they're talking about foreign Asians, but seriously? Texas also, tried to pass a similar law, but I don't know the current status.

Possibly internalized. We get treated as foreigners so much that it just becomes a part of us. For example, I was born in NYC 51 years ago, but people still ask me if I speak English. Also, Andrew Yang, who ran as a presidential candidate for the Democratic party, there was a political cartoon where he was in New York to campaign, and one of the business owners in the cartoon said, "look, the tourists are back" (for context, this was when covid restrictions were winding down).

@@PricefieldPunkyes he did and talked badly behind my back, called me flat like paper 📄, spreader of fake rumors and gossip. I still can’t believe I fell head over heals for this guy smh. Oh well his lost cause I deserve better. It just made me realize to be proud of my heritage for who I am and the right people will accept you for who you are as a person not just ethnic people and looks.
Truth!!!
Ummm... the only asian stereotype that has been a problem for me is my neighbors thinking I'm a prostitute because I'm a female living alone and they see 2 different guys come to my house. Even though I don't dress at all like a hooker. I literally wear a t-shirt and pants every day. I wear unisex clothing. Apparently, I can't have any guy friends come to my house because my neighbors assume I'm prostituting. This has happened to me a few times. It's so ridiculous it's funny yet annoying when they tell my other neighbors based on their assumption
Hi Fung Bros. 😊
Sometimes, I do hear Asian (Chinese, Japanese, etc.) wives who call their husbands "dad"; Asian husbands might call their wives "mom." (Just an observation, like a (Jerry) Seinfeld joke.)
Daddy lol I’m mommy
Don't think that's limited to Asians. Once couples have kids, the parents become mom and dad, even to each other. Look at former VP Mike Pence, he calls his wife "mother".
True said there 💯👍
Never watching beef
I love your channel guys. I love the content that you’ve been putting out since you’ve started-from the food reviews to the asian cultural stuff… but I have to say, I feel like you guys come off as a little too politically correct sometimes… They’re not unhoused David… theye homeless- you can say homeless.
There was another instance where I made a comment about how kids in Asian countries help with the cleanup of the classrooms etc. and I said can you imagine if you tried to get the kids in New York or Chicago to do this? You guys liked it and then 10 minutes later, you guys unliked it … why?
Truth that!
Don't wanna get their channel cancelled or demonetised probably. Just being safe.
Austin powers goated. "That's a maaaaaan baby!"
With the recent news, I’m afraid some might brand Asian as China spy. Example Apple Car and Coca-cola cases 😢
I was thinking of the floating (red) spy balloon up in the sky, which later got shot down (somewhere in America).. "99 Luft (Red) Balloons." - Nena (an 1980's German pop (new wave, or synth-pop) star
I agree about tatemae and I would rather people say what they mean to my face. That's what I like about NYers. They are so direct, even direct to the point of being blunt.
Bad Asian driver? Heck, let Americans try driving in the Philippines! Let's see them maneuver where there are no lanes.
Another thing is the racial animus of one minority over the others. That's crazy too.
stereo types to live up to, model mino rity, nurse, mormon, Cat holic, Chris tians, living the Gos pel as salt of the earth and being perse cuted for it is in the Bi ble.
at least police are not trigger happy when they see Asians.
If you want to teqch asian culture, teach them the history
What stereotypes that have long been established have successfully been undone, i mean in general? None. You will never get rid of them.
Lets be honest most stereotypes are true 😂
@@Victor-gh3ur So, you believe the stereotypes about Asian people being racist ,then you be right, nigga 😂
@Medalion white cunks are ok with white women getting pounded by BBC but we asians are not. Sorry for not being so secure like you guys 😔 so yeah, we have to sadly eradicate the stereotypes placed by white cunk males
@@Victor-gh3ur My Bulgarian economics teacher once told the class that all stereotypes have a kernel of truth, especially the ones about Bulgarians 🤣
Japan is not a high-tech country. Many sectors of the country still have not digitalized, and continue to utilize outdated analog products. They still use floppy disk, and don't know what USB flash drive is.
they still use floppy disk?? For what???
@@bevs9995 Duh what to you think? For data storage. They still use fax machine, do you know what that is?
5 1/4" or 3 1/2" double density = the latter one is the newer floppy disk type..

No the hell they don't!
So you think in some office...
out in rural Japan, their still using computers from 1984? 🤣🤣🤣🤣
Are you even Asian?????
So in 2023......
They still using 1984 IBM computers, that haven't broken down yet? 🤣🤣🤣🤣
As a black dude listening to Asian folk who are offended by what is mostly positive stereotypes is hilarious
Meanwhile, black dudes and women pull the race card everytime they're confronted about anything negative lol
Imagine being hated for being nice and smart. That's how crazy it is in America.
You're charismatic!
you're not a real deep thinker are you?
@@far-middle bet you he wouldn't cause he knows full well that he's got it better in the media than Asians do.
Idk where the bad driver thing comes from, there's no statistics to back it up & when driving around it's rare to see Asians involved in accidents, def not like it's common enough to notice any pattern.
Our family are all bad drivers! Especially me. I've hit parked police cars when I went to pay a fine; I've chipped away bricks of the apartment that I use live in; couldn't follow correct instructions from the cops ; almost got shot from cop when he pulled me over; hit stop signs; hit fire hydrant etc.😊😊😊
The middle age Asian drivers are unfortunately bad drivers >_
@@easyalpha1 yea even if Asians are least likely to fatally kill somebody while driving or favoured by insurance companies, these copers will always come at you with anecdotal experience to try & claim the stereotype being true😂 like sorry Asians are better drivers 😢
My dad asks me to backout my mom's car outta the garage for her cause she's hit stuff backing out in our own house lmao that stereotype is real imo
Literally every accident I've driven by at least in MA have been white middle aged women high on percs 😂
I've nearly been run over many a time. Never was an asian person...also I usually got a nice mouthful as if it's my fault for walking when it's my signal. Been in a car with white dudes who decided to drive with their knees and nearly lost control and flipped all of us over into a river, and sped and nearly killed a woman and her kid.
My dad is an immigrant driver and has never crashed his cars into anything for over 70 years and counting. Whether you have poor driving skills or not is very much on a case by case basis.
Lol I'm African American and I've never really heard good stereotypes about us. Other than being rappers, and ball players 😂. Thanks for saying that bro..
