Maybe, teaching a child to swim and swim well enough to be able to know where thier limits lie. Also spending the time at bodies of water as these insuring they learn to respect all water. We have the same nonsense in Iowa and it's not the fault of the water. I was 3ft. from a friend when he went under. It never occurred to any of the people who knew he couldn't swim to say so, until he lost his air, I still blame myself. But in the end he was never shown respect for water and it cost him. The safest thing to do is if you want to swim, go to State Parks, and other places that are open to the general public and never trespass on property that is not open to the general public or that you have no permission to be on from the property owner. Also, never jump into an unknown body of water because you do not know how deep it is and what debris it has on the bottom.
I remeber some highschool dudes going in to a qyarey like a normal pond . Upto 12 feet 4 feet water then suddenly 50 feet drop 1 of them didn't knew swimming well and drowned
The amount of reports that come out of the USA saying swimming in a quarry is dangerous you will die!Not explaining bloody why! Britain: yea the water is cold mate, straight to the point.
Its not illegal to have a dip in these old Quarry lakes like it isnt illegal to have a dip in the sea but enter at your own risk has always been the case. Top tips are - Always wear atleast a 5mm - 7mm wetsuit, surfing wetsuit, boots and surf cap and gloves and always wear a buoyancy aid vest if you intend to enter the water even if you believe your a strong swimmer.
My father told me about when he was a kid and a local quarry, they would find large rocks and swim out into the quarry and allow the stones to drag them down deep into the water to see how far down they could go. No one ever got hurt or drowned. When I was a kid we used to jump off a sheer cliff into this natural "well" to prove our bravery to each other. The "well" was about 15 feet in diameter and 40 feet deep to the water's surface. The water was about 15 feet deep. None of us ever got hurt except for one kid who was drunk. The thing about governments is that they have to have something to do or else they worry about being useless, so they tend to make more and more laws and find new things to make people worry about in order to maintain their relevance. Safety commissions are the most likely to do this.
The quarry is a convenient place for the mining company to illegally dump their toxic waste. Often the water in a quarry looks very clear. Its clear because nothing will grow in it. That's the part of the story they are not telling. If they are actively dumping at the quarry, they certainly don't want you to see it. Other than that they don't want to be held liable if you were to get injured. As far as the swimming itself is concerned there is nothing particularly hazardous about the quarry.
ArtemiaSalina most quarries are far deeper than that and have rusted machinery at the bottom, causing water toxicity, not to mention water moccasins and eels
@EndofMusic A sudden change to really cold could cause a swimmer to gasp and inhale water. So no, that's not total bullshit. However its more likely that the water contains toxic chemicals commonly used at mining operations. Other industries may also have been dumping there as well. So yeah, the owners don't want kids swimming there. Old quarries contain hidden secrets.
Really? You're scare mongering about swimming in quarries or strip mines? People swim in the ocean which has sharks, humboldt squid, salt water crocodiles, orcas, strong currents, hurricanes, and tsunamis. The water is cold? I have swam in a spring fed stream. It's no big deal. Heat can cause muscle cramps too.
this is a tipical fire service scare mongering video, specifically designed to put people off of what to me, is about the greatest passtime in the world, open water swimming. the fire service has always been very anti open water swimming, and can't seem to get how enjoyable it is compared to boring indoor pool swimming. some of us don't want to be 100% safe all the time, so back off and stop nannying us! also, there is plenty of info from places like wildswimming.com, and the outdoor swimming society, that gives advice about cold water, getting tangled, and such, to let people decide for ourselves, rather than being dictated to by these fire service killjoys.
Whilst I agree, I don’t think that’s the message here. Even if you are a strong swimmer these places will quickly reduce your abilities to swim at all.
all these videos, claiming quarry's are a dangerous place to swim, cant tell us why, other than the typical hazards you look out for as a swimmer. I would like a 'real' reason aka-undertows.. nope, whirlpools.. nope, sharks or gators...hope not.
Because of the steep cliffs. You can't see the edge of the cliffs underwater, so imagine wading through shallow water before suddenly being dunked into freezing cold water hundreds of feet deep
in my opinion, if a quarry is being abandoned it should be by law that the company that dug it, has to put up fences, or some other way to stop people from going in. if not that at least warning signs.
Honestly, yes. They *should* do that. And they have been doing that, in some areas. But sometimes the water is either, too toxic, or too deep for them to even get near it, and safely place fencing around it.
No people should take responsibility for their own safety. Otherwise, you would have to fence off all cliff tops and the Sea. Most drown because they swim without due care and attention, or swim under the influence of drink or drugs. The Quarry near me is a great place to swim, the water is clean and very clear, it gets too warm at times. But often my time is spent clearing up old beer cans and bottles usually shit Lager beers I would not even put down my toilet. So the same people who have so little respect for their bodies they drink shitty poor quality chemical filled Lager to excess, are the same idiots who swim after drinking. If they die it's their own fault, not the quarry companies or the government. The same idiots will also drown in the sea or die when they drive their cars pissed up. We could do with a few less piss heads, the more that die off the better, no sympathy at all for them.

I'm so sorry Kieth. I wish it had been me instead of you.
Doesn't sound like it's your fault. If people let a child who didn't know how to swim into water that is their responsibility and excuse my disrespect but your friends as well
RIP Keith - but you really wish it had been you instead?
Great work guys! Much appreciated.
LOL
Britain: yea the water is cold mate, straight to the point.
if ur drowning......Then why dont you just swim?
Its not illegal to have a dip in these old Quarry lakes like it isnt illegal to have a dip in the sea but enter at your own risk has always been the case. Top tips are - Always wear atleast a 5mm - 7mm wetsuit, surfing wetsuit, boots and surf cap and gloves and always wear a buoyancy aid vest if you intend to enter the water even if you believe your a strong swimmer.
Maybe there should be a law where they must fill them back in !
Well, that would create another large hole haha...
This happened in my area 8 years ago w a thirteen year old boy in the Uk and there are still two access routes to get past the high fence
Your right about that.
When Mother Nature wants people to stop killing animals.
Animals? Lol

This is why I don’t trust Querries
Recorded horizontally😀👍
I just cliff jump with a tube ready for me to hop on too w friends
😂😂😂 this is the one I was in today haha it just depends what position you jump into , don't advise going into the middle though
Why it's the best part hahaha

Heat can cause muscle cramps too.
no need to get worked up. swim wherever you want, nobody really gives a shit.
Gammareign yes but beaches are lifeguarded. quarries arnt.
Not all beaches are lifeguarded.
Yes, quarries kill more than storms on the ocean or tsunamis.
Gammareign Humboldt Squids are way down deep and Orcas don't attack humans, look it up... kiddo.
but why is it so dangerous?
At the time they paddel 100 meters on the lake, the guy who screamed help is dead. What is that shit.
I bet this is what happened to lady from Glee.
You shouldn be in tge water if you cant swim
this is a tipical fire service scare mongering video, specifically designed to put people off of what to me, is about the greatest passtime in the world, open water swimming. the fire service has always been very anti open water swimming, and can't seem to get how enjoyable it is compared to boring indoor pool swimming. some of us don't want to be 100% safe all the time, so back off and stop nannying us!
also, there is plenty of info from places like wildswimming.com, and the outdoor swimming society, that gives advice about cold water, getting tangled, and such, to let people decide for ourselves, rather than being dictated to by these fire service killjoys.
No quarries. I got this.
somebody made a huge proift digging this deathtrap! Why are these people not forced to restore this quarry into a safe condition?
Maybe because they’re dead?
Stay healthy and learn how to swim
Whilst I agree, I don’t think that’s the message here. Even if you are a strong swimmer these places will quickly reduce your abilities to swim at all.
So there’s no real problem with quarries compared to any other body of cold, nature speckled water
Put some lifeguards on duty.
These quarries should of been reclaimed drained and back filled to a certain extent
it's why you wear a weatsuit.
They should fill these in with rocks or something
wot m8??
Still the people don't want to listen
I so sry
Start making the companies that own these fence off, drain or fill them in,enough with the free ride.
You idiot.
Why are people so stupid? Do not ignore the signs!!!
all these videos, claiming quarry's are a dangerous place to swim, cant tell us why, other than the typical hazards you look out for as a swimmer. I would like a 'real' reason aka-undertows.. nope, whirlpools.. nope, sharks or gators...hope not.
If you used ur head a bit you’d know.
It's cause they dump chemicals in them but they won't admit that so they just say it's cold and deep and dangerous and leave it at that.
But sometimes the water is either, too toxic, or too deep for them to even get near it, and safely place fencing around it.
sorry, i totally agree with u dude, i accidentally disliked your comment after my hand slipped
Oh yes let’s build a fence to keep people out. That really worked well with Mexicans.
Over 50% of illegal Mexicans get here by plane. Fence or wall does nothing.
We could do with a few less piss heads, the more that die off the better, no sympathy at all for them.
these wild swimming sites don't help
Stop being coward
Um what
