- For any of y'all that have been so incredibly kind as to follow along on here over the last year, I sure hope I've made my respect and admiration for Slipknot abundantly clear. While that respect goes out to the entire band, the core of what got me into them was without a doubt the work of Joey Jordison and the INCREDIBLE energy.
I guess part of being in our generation is we endure the loss of many players who influenced us. And clearly this will be the case of future generations. But in this case, Joey was 46 years old. To me, that is not an age where we anticipate saying good bye to a drumming legend. I will absolutely do some more Slipknot material because it's both incredibly challenging and I love those first 3 albums. And in the wake of the news of Joey's passing, I immediately thought players much, much more naturally adept at speed would cover his work with Slipknot. So to pay tribute, I chose this band (#Murderdolls #WhiteWedding) and this song. The reason is simple - I can't imagine how awesome it would have been to be a drummer and look in front of you to see Joey Jordison on guitar. Plus this band embodied the shared glam rock / shock rock influences along with the sleaze rock of so many of us experienced. I went ahead and threw on some Halloween makeup for fun. I say this with nothing but pure respect - Joey Jordison influenced at least two generations. A third generation could easily listen to his work with Slipknot and have their take on it in 10 years. When he sat behind a kit, he gave it everything he had. Rest in peace Mr. Jordison.

What a great tribute to one of my favourite drummers of all time, Trey! Really appreciate it! I’ve been lucky enough to to experience Joey’s work live twice, once with Slipknot as support act for Metallica in 2002, and once again with the Murderdolls. Love your performance, you can really feel your pain and anger about his passing channeled into your drumming. And isn’t that what the vision of Slipknot was about in the first place? Love it, man! That's AWESOME you saw Murderdolls!!!! I don't even have a "came close" story on that band. I would've loved to have seen him in that set up. And man, at one point Ben Graves was playing with Joey. Ben unfortunately passed away not that long ago. He was 47 or 48. It's messed up. Ben was a super nice guy and a fun drummer to watch. Appreciate you my friend! 🤘🤘🤘🤘

Brotha, I sure appreciate it and I'm so sorry for the delayed response (work). Man, a lot of great drummers on here have put up various JJ tribs. And he wasn't as influential on me as he would have been the guys just behind me. But Damn dude - did that first album ever slam. I had a friend tell me it was similar to Korn's debut - I remember telling him "Bro, nothing about that is like Korn" 🤣🤣🤣. WHOLE different energy and a different kind of aggression to me

Dude, I was slackin' too LOL! I figured the Jordison tributes would come over the next month in the form of Slipknot. Any Slipknot song I do, I have to sit with it for a while. Telling you, I thought this would be a lead balloon. I'm surprised this many people knew who they were. Cheri - I was a major fan of Murderdolls. I heard he had a second project and thought he was drumming in it. Once I saw a live clip and saw him on guitar (way, way back), I about lost it! OH I wish I could have been in some circle where I could have at least had a shot of playing for them. Is what it is though. Hope you are doing awesome and so sorry for the delay. Believe they had Racci Shay too and I dig his work a lot. I guess Ben did the studio cut? I honestly would like to know though. Hey correct. E if I'm wrong, but it sounds like you went for more of a close mic sound rather than room. Your thoughts?
On this type stuff, I end up going close mic more than room. Honestly bro, I love that bigger sound that we can get using the room mic but the punch in the more metal type tunes tightens up when I lower the room prominence. But I still use the shit out of it. It's just significantly compressed. What do you roll with man? You get a shit ton of punch but you get a great overall sound Marcus
@@TreyBDrums thanks for the compliment, number one. Um, I usually write the room mics do the heavy lifting but I'm finding I want a punchy tone to my kit. I just keep wanting that Vinnie/Tommy punch with depth and girth. When I figure it out I'll let you know. I'm back to all analog now because I find it easier for me to control rather than being a computer scientist. I'm gonna try punching up my whole kit and using the room and overhead mics for depth, warmth and tone. I'll let you know how that goes. Lol 😅😆🤣😂
