Kahhori was actually speaking Spanish at the end. She learned the language based on what she was saying, and also the subtitle color changed as well
Kahhori is Mohawk, Echo is Choctaw. So yes, just happened to be two Native stories out close together.
Yeah glad that Calvin pointed that they were from different regions so were not the same nation. Just separate stories and representation, which is nice.
A neat fact bridging of the gap, Kahhori’s VA, Devery Jacobs, played Maya’s cousin Bonnie in Echo.
@@natetheknight2809I’m just realizing that for these 2 roles, she had to perform lines in 4 different languages: English, Spanish, Mohawk, and ASL
@@Tconlon251_2
Wow, I had thought about the Mohawk, but I didn’t take into consideration the Spanish and ASL. The Spanish was for that scene at the end of the episode, and I don’t remember Bonnie signing all that much (as Maya was avoiding her most of the show), but it’s still very impressive to think about, especially considering how fluent she portrayed the characters in those languages. Because Bonnie was one of the more fluent/practiced signers of the show, unlike someone like Biscuits. 😅
Oh she IS Mohawk! I was wondering cuz of her brother's name is the same as a Mohawk community near where I live
Kahhori was speaking spanish at the end, Aaron
maybe they forgot to turn on subtitles and it was only visible in the little window for us?
@@DummyAccount I doubt it. He just didn't see the (speaking spanish) bit probably
yup, also kahhori was speaking spanish with a very thick accent, made her sound like another language for non-spanish speakers
@@DummyAccount The subtitles automatically existed in the episode.
@@DummyAccountand they still dubbed her in Spanish during those scenes for the latinoamerican and castilian dubs, heck in castilian they redubbed the entire ending scene and the conquistadors
Kahhori actually was speaking Spanish in the last scene. If you pay attention, Spanish and Mohawk are subtitled in different colors.
As for why Doctor Strange was speaking English to a room full of people that don't speak it, beats me
I think he’s probably got a universal translator spell
@@jelletinnyIt'd be surprising, if he didn't. Especially that version of him.
The accent Kahhori had while speaking Spanish was a pretty cool detail.
Dr Strange teleports into a room of spaniards and Mohawks speaking spanish. Speaks english 😂
Leave it to an American played by a Brit 🤣
To be fair he 100% has translation magic, the rest of the people definitely don't tho.
The concept of this started as a What If not about a familiar character, but a familiar Object. The Tesseract
It’s a really neat idea
yeaaaah the idea is cool, but its also fair if you are not as interested
I really hope they bring Kahhori into the comics and maybe live action. I really liked this episode and was surprised that she’s an original character, it’d be cool if she got more love.
She is going to be a very useful hero to help The Avengers in their fight against Kang or Dr Doom in Secret Wars.
@@Jarcovancapelleveen that’d be really cool. I wonder who they’d cast though, I don’t really know any NA actors asides from Aquila Cox now.
@@unicornburger16 probably Devery Jacobs again. She also played Bonny in Echo and does Kahhori’s voice.
@@unicornburger16 she’s Mohawk in real life too.
@@Jarcovancapelleveen oh really? That’s pretty cool, I didn’t recognize they had the same voice.
It’s a total coincidence they are close together, and Kahori is played by Bonnie’s actress from echo!
Oh shit I had no idea that’s AWESOME!! Kahori is one of the best original characters I’ve seen come out of the superhero genre in a long long time. I’m super excited to see where they take her character. I mean shit, Echo was better than I thought, I would LOVE LOVE LOVE to see a kahori show
... so it's NOT a coincidence.
The Spanish Queen was the VA from Sombra in Overwatch, crazy how voices are that noticeable
This episode was my favorite episode of the season! This is exactly what I wanted out of the what-if concept from Marvel! Taking a risk and introducing an original MCU hero through an episode of the show was an awesome idea! Loved Kahhori as a hero in this episode, and I can't wait to more of her in the MCU!
Same! This episode was by fare the best out of them all.
Loved the concept and the music was great as well.
Nah
Imo the best was Hela and Wenwu, but this is number 2
Having an original character doesn't mean it wasn't a _What If_ story, Eric. The beginning explained how the what if senario could start using an original character. Having the episode be about Kahhori doesn't mean the situation still wasn't a what if senario. They don't have to be based around pre-set characters. The situation just has to change, and in this case that means a new character was introduced.
I agree with Eric. Of course, this was a great episode, but usually, what if is focusing on characters or events we know, just with a different twist. If they wanted to introduce a new character, they didn't need to do it in what if
@matrozos4175 And the way I see it is the event we know was stated in the episode, and created a new situation. That's all. The difference between this episode and others is the new situation it created showed us a new character.
@@markosmatrozos4175I mean, the what if was "what if the tesseract ended up in North America instead"
@@andrewdiaz3529 i agreed with eric until you put it like that
@@markosmatrozos4175and that exactly what happened in this episode. They literally said that about the Tesseract. So how exactly is it NOT a what if scenario?🙄
Fun fact: Kahhori is voiced by Bonnie’s actor and Wahta is voiced by the new live action Katara
"The power of the ring could not be undone." I had the exact thought when I watched it.
Least favorite? It absolutely fits the criteria of a What If. It's my fav thus far, and the only episode of either season that I've watched more than once.
Kahhori spoke Spanish with a Iroquoian accent.
It's not the other What If episodes... It's a new character to MCU so it wasn't great.
@@Nekotaku_TVit is a what if, as in what if ragnorak happened and the whole of history changes…
It can fit the criteria and be his least favourite... i liked it but wasnt a fan of it
This was my favorite What If episode ever. I’m obsessed with Kahhori now, I need an ongoing book series and more shows and movies and I need it as soon as possible
This has been my favorite episode of this show so far. It's also been the only episode to make me tear up, thinking about a world where the Americas were never colonized and the Native Americans thrived.
I love this episode, especially cause we're introduced to a great new Mohawk hero, Kahhori!
Kahhori was actually speaking Spanish at the end. She learned the language based on what she was saying, and also the subtitle color changed as well
Both Kahori and Queen Isobella were speaking Spanish, Strange is a wizard and can make himself understood
in the end kahori was speaking spanish with an accent, which leads to believe she learnt it in the time between the attack at the beach and the attack to the court. Strange was also talking about world peace, which in my mind means this is not the first court they visit and dominate with their powers.
This episode is everything I wanted when what if started. Tell me different original stories and have fun with it.
Love when Calvin and Eric go off on LOTR and HP references hahaha
My Favourite out of all episodes from Season 2 then again, starting with Kahhori the episodes just keep on giving.
More and more it feels like the Tesseract/Space Stone is actually the strongest of the Infinity Stones. The stuff we’ve seen it do, plus the amount of heroes it’s given seemingly Omega Level powers is growing and growing
Power Stone: Am I a joke to you?
Disney: I don't even know who you are
Wanda & Vision & the Mind Stone: Are we jokes to you?
@@chaotic7cam Mind stone is awsome. But it is good to remember Wanda has her own powers only awakened by Mind stone and amplified.
@c7cam Wanda had powers to begin with, she's a mutant. The Mind Stone just fully unlocked them.
@@bable6314 i am not sure if she is amutant in mcu.
I was actually brought to tears from this episode, because too often in tv and especially in movies do we see Native Americans portrayed only as victims who were robbed of everything, but in this world, they stood up and succeeded in defending their home. And it was thanks to a young Mohawk woman named Kahhori.
This has been my most anticipated anticipated episode of What If for the past year, and far exceeded my high expectations. I would absolutely love to see more of Kahhori. In comics, tv, and especially in movies.
*GIVE US MORE OF THIS WORLD, AND OF KAHHORI!*
they colour coded the subtitles when Kahhori arrives in the court she is speaking Spanish. and no spoilers for a future episode but it does appear the space stone lets you understand and speak any language.
I'm sorry but can we talk about Calvin's impressions, he's hilarious and can do J. Jonah Jameson 'Are you serious' perfectly
I absolutely loved this episode! It felt like everything about it was perfect and as a whole I really enjoyed this story and found it to be super interesting. I definitely think this episode has once again showed how much they have upped the quality for this new season. I really do think that everything about this episode is what a What If story should be. I loved the story, getting to learn about this new character Kahhori amazing, I can’t wait to see more of her in the future. Getting to watch her story unfold with how she gained the power of the Space Stone and saved her tribe from being taken over and enslaved by the Spaniards was incredible. I loved getting to see her in that other dimension where she got to interact with others who had gained this power and she could learn more about her powers, and how she could properly use them. And I really loved the scene where she stood alone against the Spaniards to stop them from taking her people, and she gave it her all before the members of the other tribe come to join her in the attack and we got that amazing shot where you only see their glowing eyes peering out from behind the trees. I just really loved this episode and its story, it was so interesting and creative and had me fully immersed in this new world with these new characters throughout the entire episode. The score was also beautiful, some of the themes in this episode were just so monumental and inspiring sounding. And I think the soundtrack went especially hard during the scene when Kahhori stood alone against the Spaniards, that theme alone was so beautiful and and gave off this feeling of pure inspiration that will most likely go down as one of the most memorable themes to come from this season. I also loved the cinematography in this episode, there were so many shots throughout this episode that looked like these beautiful, in-depth, intricate, paintings. And I really liked their use of animation in this episode, especially in any of the scenes where Kahhori would use any of her powers. It really felt like they were able to use the animation to their advantage to have the characters do things they couldn’t normally in a live action movie or series. I also loved all of the action sequences throughout this episode. It was just so amazing to get to see Kahhori and the others that were imbued with the power of the Space Stone to utilize their unique power sets in action. Then in the end of this episode we get this crazy cliffhanger where Strange Supreme from What If Season 1 comes out of a new looking style of portal and says that he has been looking for Kahhori for a long time.
Great review of the episode! I also found it so enjoyable!
Kahhori was speaking Spanish in that last scene. Likely no one understood Strange at the end
The Spanish royal Court didn't know English? After sitting next to them since their nation's conception?
@@andrewdiaz3529 I mean it’s possible they knew English but not automatic. The United States been next to Mexico since its inception I doubt many US presidents knew Spanish
@@foxshadow11 very different situation but I do see what you're saying
Kahhori is such a dope character!
"I didn't know that was one of the goals to tell new stories." WTF? That's the whole point of the series that was explained in the first season.
he means with new stories with new characters instead of new stories with characters we already know
@@luckycatGK I mean.. they forget that captain carter is a new character introduced in What if last season. Soo...
@@voidsquirrel2395 Peggy Carter is not a new character, you cannot be serious 😭
@@luckycatGK I never said PEGGY Carter is a new character. I said Captain Carter... as a super soilder. we are talking in the contex of a new Superhero.
@@voidsquirrel2395 so captain carter…aka Peggy Carter is a new character is her Steve Rodgers also a new character to you?
When Kahhori was talking to the Queen of Spain, she was indeed speaking Spanish. She had plenty of time to learn it, considering how many Spanish armies they said she'd destroyed in the interim. But... yeah, I don't know how she'd know English 😂
Who knew Marvel trying something completely *new and original* after Endgame would yield positive results??
While I agree with Eric that this episode isn't a true "what if" in its premise, this might've been my favorite episode to watch in this series. It felt like a Disney Animation short.
I agree, I also think it was the best looking episode, so far at least.
I disagree completely. This is precisely what a what if? story is supposed to be. It's literally what if the space stone showed up on earth. Or what if the indigenous people weren't almost wiped out. To try and say it's not what the premise is supposed to be is wrong. That's the exact premise. Show new stories with "what if" scenarios. It's the dumbest take I've heard yet.
@@chadwood4412 You're right in that aspect, so allow me to reclarify what I meant.
It is a "what if" in the general sense, like "what if the Spaniards made their way up North and were defeated."
When I said it wasn't really a what if premise and that I agreed when Eric said that, what that meant was that it's not an MCU What If like we'd been getting so far. It wasn't a "you see this MCU character you know? _What if_ their life was different?
@@loganbwit is though, the whole world is different because the tesseract isn’t where it is within the mcu timeline. In fact it’s on earth earlier than before. Add the fact that Asgard fell. Which brings its own stories as well to the universe
It’s actually my favorite what if episode.
12:18 reminds me of when frieze still tried to get a cheap shot at goku while he was flying away before namek blew up and goku blasted him with one hand.
This is where the fun begins!!!! I love this episode! 🙏🏽💪
Her name is pronounced as Kah-horti. But written as Kahhori.
It sounds like a hard "T", but I think it's actually a rolled "R".
i was hearing "kahoori"
I believe it's a glottal stop before the "I" at the end of her name, which is often represented in other languages with an apostrophe, which would make it look like "Kahhor'i" (ka-HORʔ-ee).
There's definitely no 't' sound.
This is one of if not my absolute favorite of What If Season 2. It is a tough call between this one, episode 7, and episode 9. Episode 1 is pretty solidly my #4 slot. Not to slam Captain Carter, she is one of my favorite all-around characters from What If, but Kahhori's story just hits very hard for me. The strength and conviction to not stop until the people who need protection the most are safe... is just a very powerful theme.
its still a what if story because of where the tesseract ended up, instead of norway its america
Nobody is saying it isn't. Just weird and different and worse.
@@Nekotaku_TVit’s only you who thinks it’s worse

We must email, call, message everyone in-charge at Marvel.
Kahori HAS to continue, because my goodness, this was an INCREDIBLE story. I would love an animated series, or perhaps even a normal TV Show.
Though marvel had a rocky few fears recently, You gotta agree, VFX in the Eternals for example, was stunning. The running effects done in that movie? They could modify it slightly and totally use it. We’ve also seen through echo that they are doing their research when it comes to Native Americans and their stories, so we know they are capable of it.
I wouldn’t be mad if they got rid of one of the currently planned shows, and put this in instead. I mean like Armor Wars for example, or the Thunderbolts. We’ve been hearing about these shows for a couple years now, and honestly, I really couldn’t care much about them anymore, and I wasn’t too excited to begin with.
Dude, it was awful.
I didn't epect a Troll 2 reference ;) Kahhori is a really cool new character :)
The bright blue and Native American dress reminded me of the Nora and Banuk from Horizon, such a cool design.
My favorite episode of the season by far!
The bowling ball discussion was hilarious

Immediately after watching this episode Kahhori became my favorite MCU superhero.
What if? The indigenous people of the Americas weren’t annihilated.
Specially since the Spanish didnt annihilate the native population like the English and French did, specially the Mohawk, because they never met.
@@Agherosh what if?
@@kanashikuraido Yeah, what if the US and the British stop putting their own awful actions on the Spanish Empire? Because that's all they've been doing for centures, that'd be a true "What If?" but no, they decide to act like the good ones that are so good and friendly with the natives. If they wanted to do a What if? Choose the French, or the Dutch, the US and British just love to spread the Spanish Black Legend to hide their own atrocities.
@@Agheroshyou need to read up more on central and South America. They annihilated them plenty, and whatever was left was nearly obliterated by the smallpox they brought over in 1520.
@@MessoriusPrime You need to read more actual history and now what they taught you by lying.
Illnesses are not genocide, who would had thought. Secondly, Central America was mostly Aztecs, which were killed by natives, not Spaniards, Spain barely sent soldiers, when they arrived all the other native tribes allied with Spain to defeat the Aztecs because, surprise, they were pieces of shit that would eat and sacrifice people from smaller tribes.
Most of the soldiers that attacked the Aztec Empire were natives, not Spaniards.
Secondly, you talk about annihilate natives, sure, natives died, but it's wasn't an annihilation, nor a genocide, and this is easily proven by one thing, people and their DNA, most people all over Central and South America have native ancestry, how? If the Spanish were so bad, sooo bad, they would be white, but they are not, they are mixed, because natives and Spaniards assimillated, natives became part of the Spanish Empire and were given rights (Sure, it wasn't all shine and rainbows), but compared to the French, the Dutch, or the British? Spain were practically angels compared to the rest. The number of people in the US and Canada with native ancestry proves it, THAT was a genocide.
I didn't have subtitles for this episode. 😅Fun experience. The same thing happened to me when I watched the Planet of the Apes movies xD
Fun experiencing a story without understanding the dialogue. You can still understand the story, just not the details.
Wasn’t Kahhori speaking Spanish in the end? Gotta pay attention before criticizing Aaron
when kohori came to the queen, she spoke spanish
do you know what spanish sounds like cause it really felt like she was speaking spanish at the end there

I feel like Eric has an unnecessarily narrow definition of a what if story.

Love their language. But that was the only great part of this episode. I guess it's a new character we haven't seen in the MCU yet but it didn't have anything to do with what we know of except the tesseract.
It seems like it's connected to Echo, they both have them transported and there's the blue color.
Guys they’re allowed to say this is their least favourite 😭 even if they didn’t understand it, it was a poor episode and that’s ok
It wasn’t a poor episode though. And tbh a lot of people who are “complaining about the episode” seem to hold a common trait of being white and i can only assume their hurt by the depiction of how brutal the colonization was. Though there is some issue with this episode and how it for some reason choose Spaniards as the big bad when it should really be the English and maybe the French.
