      @@quinnjohnson9750 Way back when I was in college, a Christian College, most at my college fellow students considered the Baptists in our athletic conference who we associated with, as, legalistic. The Baptists considered us "unsaved" or very worldly at best. These students would try to convert us to Christ, assuming we had not trusted in Jesus ( asking Jesus to come into our hearts and accepting Him as Lord and Savior), otherwise we would have adopted their "legalistic" particular views. I think most Christian do not know the proper definition of legalism.

      David Bercot has an interesting video in which he states that there were massive Protestant influences at work within the Mennonites well before 1900. It seems like this influx of new ideas contributed to the Old Order splits.

      "tangled itself up"? Any entanglement going on is on your part. I recommend Crawford Gribben's new J.N. Darby and the Roots of Dispensationalism. The Dispensational FRAMEWORK is simply one way of organizing themes and history found in the sixty-six books of Scripture. The philosophical framework of Covenantism is another. They're tools, nothing more or less unless you MISS the Risen Lord Jesus Christ.

    • @JefferyHunt
      @JefferyHunt 2 місяці тому

      @@DanSme1 One thing I appreciate about Dispensationalists is their belief in the inerrancy of the Bible. Thank God that there are Bible-believing Christians on both sides of the Dispensational to Covenantal spectrum. It’s funny that you associate Dispensationalism with “themes and history”, and that you choose to describe Covenatalism as “philosophical”. That’s exactly the way I’d expect a Dispensationalist to frame the issue. The inerrant Bible is neither mere “themes and history”, nor lofty “philosophy”, but well-structured text in canonical context. In other words, we have to get our eyes off of the event and back onto the page.

    Aside from the strict rules on interacting with worldly things, their theology seems very close to Restorationist / Church of Christ. Their description of the function of Baptism is different (an act of obedience, rather than necessary for salvation), but they reject faith alone and hold to "faith without works is dead". Also the rejection of once saved, always saved. Interesting to see a different tradition arrive at a very similar set of beliefs.

      Five separate times in the epistles Christians are expressly told to “greet one another with a Holy Kiss.” You can probably argue that is is not NECESSARY to literally kiss one-another, but I don’t see how you could condemn the practice if a community decides to literally do what they were instructed to do. You seem to imply that greeting each other with a kiss is perverse in some way. But might I suggest that perception is due to the culture shifting to make the kiss an exclusively romantic expression today, which is a very modern development limited to the modern west.

    Jude 1:7
    Even as Sodom and Gomorrha, and the cities about them in like manner, giving themselves over to fornication, and going after strange flesh, are set forth for an example, suffering the vengeance of eternal fire.
    There is no burning fire at Sodom and Gomorrha today, these cities have suffered an ETERNAL PUNISHMENT i.e they have been destroyed/razed to the ground.
    Genesis 19:24-25 Then the LORD rained upon Sodom and upon Gomorrah brimstone and fire FROM the LORD OUT OF HEAVEN
    The consistent theme is God uses His Fire to destroy the wicked who will be burned up; TOTAL DESTRUCTION
    Malachi 4:1
    For, behold, the day cometh, that shall burn as an oven; and all the proud, yea, and all that do wickedly, shall be stubble: and the day that cometh shall burn them up, saith the LORD of hosts, that it shall leave them neither root nor branch.
    2 Thessalonians 2:8
    The Lord shall consume with the spirit of his mouth, and shall destroy with the brightness of his coming:

      @mariekatherine5238 3 місяці тому +3

      By American standards! In other cultures, they have different ideas regarding masculine or feminine colors having nothing to do with the practice of any religion. In Korean culture, for example, pastel colors are for young boys, bright, vibrant colors are for girls. I learned that one from experience while teaching Kindergarten in a Korean neighborhood of NYC. A pastel pink sweater without name tag was left on a hook in the coat room. When it was still there after a week, I held it and asked the girls whose it was. Nobody claimed it. It hung there for another week unclaimed until parent-teacher conferences. So I displayed it on a table for parents to see when they came in. Sure enough, one Mom said, “So here’s GiSu’s sweater! I was was wondering where it got to.” GiSu was a boy, who didn’t care or recognize his own clothing. Had it been bright pink, it would have been for a girl. If this church spreads to Korea, it’d be interesting to see what happens. Do they switch to western standards or keep their own?

      I’m in the process of joining a similarly conservative Mennonite church. Start by attending church services. Folks will typically make a more concerted effort than any church you’ve attended to get to know you. Many will invite you into their homes and even feed you. As time progresses there will be opportunities organically get to know the beliefs through conversation with the brothers and sisters as well as ministry. If and when you are convicted that the church’s application of biblical principles are the way you wish to walk your Christian life talk to the ministry. They will over a period of time evaluate your conviction in your beliefs over time. This may take the form of a formal instruction period similar to what catechumen undergo in the Orthodox and Catholic Church. Some churches do this more informally. Once you complete that membership will be extended. If you are a new Christian baptism occurs following procession of faith and then membership is extended. If you are baptized in another faith, depending on the church, rebaptism will be required. Infant baptisms are almost always rejected by Mennonite churches as was the practice historically of anabaptists. Pilgrim’s website has a great church finder. You’ll find that there’s a wide variety of Mennonite churches with great variance on application of Biblical principles. The key for Mennonites is that faith without works is dead. And works brought about by faith must be applied in obedience to God’s word in every aspect of life, including what the world considers the minutia. To what degree folks wish to self-regulate through voluntary association that is church by church, congregation by congregation.
