Brian Reid definitely designed and created this shoe. As we all know skaters just give the designers our ideas and they create the shoe. They put our names on it to sell them.
I definitely had a pair of D3s and the 2001s. The 01s tore within a month of decent youth skating and after my grandma paying near $100, i was crushed. I felt so bad. I loved the shoes, super comfortable. Now looking back, they are total tanks. Even today I’m wearing globe fusions. I like the bigger style shoe but definitely have a place for my vans

I actually think that thicker skate shoes from the end of 90's made more sense. Later, with the help of the hipster culture, the companies find a cheap way to make cheap shoes and sell the "better board feel" moto, just to be able to sell 25$ shoes for 120$. Durability of the current skate shoes is horrible. Really, not a single designer to say, we need some reinforcement in this section here around the toes???

The controversy is about how over the past few years dave Mayhew has taken credit for desiging the D3 ...so Mayhews has been getting a lot of attention and given unfair credit for the design , when in several interviews his story changes from he designed most of it to he gave input on one feature.... meanwhile the actual designer brain Reid designed multiple shoes before the D3 that were similar and has actual proof of him desiging it .

Never liked any of the osiris brand shoes. Always thought they were just too bulky, same with a lot of the DCs in the late 90s-early 2000s. It was like skateboarding in boots.
I was in high school when those shoes came out. Was never a fan of them because they looked bulky as shit. All the skaters I knew who wore them were posers.
The Osiris Tyrone Olson 1 shoe with the stash pocket was one of the best skate shoes ever. Would have been better to skate in without the stash pocket.
The original d3 actually skated great and was extremely durable more than any shoe I've skated, but then they went to the airbag moon boot and all the posers were wearing them, the latter gen D3 was garbage 🗑 just fell apart without even skating. Stoked I ran a shop so I never paid for shoes, but then circa and Lakai came in and that was that. But I still own a pair of Osiris. Crazy to see that globe is still popular too talk about bulky fat shoes! Loved this episode.

No lie I used to rock the Osiris ODS with the pants lmao. I had like 3 sets. The pants you could turn them into shorts via zipper! Then it evolved from those to Reynolds 3s with skin tight pants. I miss skateboarding, 4 acl tears 8 knee surgeries deep I’m done but love the 9 club. I’m 33 I grew up watching all of you as my hero’s! Kelly was still on expedition 1, that switch flip manny at cherry park was amazing back then, kinda hyped you changed the frame to that sketch looking one was getting tired of it. Jk much love!!!
the developer should also get 1/3 of the recognition for the shoe since without the developer the shoe wouldn't be able to be manufactured and at an affordable cost

I guess what I mean is that when you build a shoe or anything that gets mass produced you pretty much have an unlimited amount of materials and construction methods to choose from. What limits it is cost. The developer pretty much turns the designer's vision into a somewhat affordable reality by working with suppliers and factories; a lot of times negotiating not just the price of materials but the price of building a shoe. Hope that kind of makes sense.

Those shoes were absolute garbage! I owned a skate shop in Denver in the late 90's. I still remember the rep giving me and one of my riders a free pair to try before I carried them. We both busted the heck out of those shoes within 2 hours of first putting them on our feet. I can see why Dave is so attached to his claim though because lets face it, this was his time to come out and get that 16th minute of fame he hasn't had in a while.
STILL u have no idea of the bravest design Matt Hensley "The Gambler" at the time duffs took a HUGE gamble making a strip down model rather than a moon boot everyone else was doing
This shoe was very popular in the early 2000s. I didnt even know why i always thought they were ugly. There was better looking shoes at the time especially from other skate shoe brands. Even osiris had other better looking shoes.

I went on a trip to California with my family the summer before 8th grade and went to every skate shop we drove by until I found the yellow/gray D3s.
I'd love to see Brian Reid on the show. Just take like the first 5 minutes to say whatever about the D3 stuff and then move on to the rest of it.

Those were the BEST Osiris shoes. I had the limited edition ones from CCS years back. I wish Osiris would re-release the G-Bag as a bluetooth version.
