I’m a huge LoK fan, have been since I played SR1 on the PS1 demodisk; but I never caught the symbolism until I tried to explain what was happening to Raziel when my nephew beat this game. The symbolism of the snake on the ground, devouring itself at the tail in a perfect circle, that is reflecting what is happening to Raziel as his wraithblade is working alongside the blood sucking soul reaver to consume his soul. The wraith blade’s hunger is so overwhelming that it doesn’t even realize or care that it is consuming itself in the process.
@ I never saw it coming, I felt sad. Kain came out and saved him though, but then he said he only postponed it. So advanced for its time making Raziel a tragic hero. This story definitely needs to be finished.
The soul reaver 1 look was always the best. It looked like a lighsaber on steroids. On SR2 it became this weird like spike thing, and in defiance it just became a sword. I think they should have kept the soul reaver 1 look. It was very distinctive and did look like something that could cut anything.
This is the original. There were no changes made to SR2 animations. They were intended for the blocky SR2 models, not the SR1 intro cinematic models they use for Kain and Raziel in the remasters. So inevitably the meshes do weird things, when "new" models do the SR2 animations.
The only one that seems less expressive using the same facal animation data is Moebius... The other thing that is a downgrade is the lack of motion blur to accentuate certain moments, like when he talks about his brethren and the game goes slow mo, when underwater or when switching to the Spectral Realm... it used to have this temporal accumulation motion blur effect... the same one legendary games like Metal Gear Solid 1 & 2 had on certain cutscenes... I remember it used to give it a more ethereal quality to the realm transitions and to the underwater sections. Shame it never made it into the remaster.
@@thatonigod Maybe he just wants to compare the old models to the new ones. I personally think new Sarafan Raziel is kind of ick and lifeless, especially when it comes to facial animation in comparison to old Sarafan Raziel.
13:42 Raziel speaking about history coming full circle which standing in a circle.
and it's a serpent eating itself!!

11:57 the music was on point!!!
Just remember Kain is the true hero of this story.
Not really. There’s no heroes at all.
I found it funny u cant block but the enemy can
You can block in SR2, there's just no point in this area of the game because the Soul Reaver heals you whenever you get hit.
I remember when I first finished it I was so shocked at the ending
What a great ending. As a kid it felt abrupt to me due to me not understanding the story

I wish they'd remake Raziel's Reaver as well. The original effect is ugly as hell, compared to SR1 and Defiance...
Ikr I'm glad they kept the look in 1. It looks more powerful

@@usov656 ikr. At least defiance reaver looks better than 2
@@usov656 agreed
Idk I kind of appreciated it as a gameplay element.... The aesthetic for me was parallel to the story.
human Raziel's face looks plastic 😅
That’s what I’m saying! He got a face lift
They REALLY dropped the ball on facial animations in the remaster. Original is far superior.
I don't mind both. It's amazing how well the original still holds up

Not cool to spoiler in the thumbnail and title.
Its technically not a spoiler since it ends up not happening
Darth Vader is Luke's father
I was thinking that, too.
"spoiler" for a 23 year old game?
@@VallornDeathblade yes, it's a spoiler. A lot of people never played it and it's been remastered for a reason.
Why the hell do the graphical assets keep changing it’s embarrassing for this to even happen on a remaster.
It's a feature that the user is able to toggle between new and old graphics.
@ ok so the dude recording is just being a troll.
