@@chichinone7555 I’m sorry for your loss. That’s a tough situation! I love being an aid in the ED. The 12 hours shift go by pretty fast because you are always busy, so it’s not bad. I really like my job a lot and would recommend it! You do a lot more interesting things as an aid in the ED. I don’t know if this is different for every hospital, but I do EKG’s and I draw labs which can be really fun and is an addition of more interesting tasks than what you might typically do as a floor aid or a nursing home aid. I can totally understand that it would be hard money wise with your situation. 18 an hour is much better than what I’m getting so hopefully if you become a PCT again you can get that. Wishing you the best!

I like that you are enjoying your PCT job. I want to do PCT but in NY every program requires me to have a CNA certificate, which I think it is a waste of my time.
My trade school is renewing certification for ACCES to pay for the medical assistant program, so I’m going for Nurse Aide Advanced/PCT. I’m in NYC, and yes, you have to get your CNA certification first. My school’s New Age Training. I’d just go for CNA, and see if they can train you to be a PCT as well. My program is 10 weeks; 5 weeks per subject.

Can a CNA apply for patient care tech jobs? I want to go to school but the only thing that fits my schedule is a CNA class. Plus, I am having a hard time finding a local Patient care tech program. So I was thinking of taking the CNA. What is your advice? thank you!
That's how I started!!!! My first position was a CNA position, and I literally only worked that job for a month before I just applied to PCT positions to see if it would work...and it did! They're pretty much the same, except pcts do phlebotomy, and other skills, but the job I got gave us training for those to learn! if you get your CNA certification, definitely still apply for pct jobs. Are you a CNA and are you still going to LPN or RN training or are you completed now? Reason for asking, I applied for a PT Care ED TECH, and I had let my CNA go many years ago so about to challenge that test however now they are asking for the candidate to be EMT trained, I have about a month before I go back to work full time so Im wondering which way to go. I can study for either, this will take about the same amount of time since one is done completely online and the other, (CNA) challange is a patchwork of passing the knowlege test for 20 buck...lol right and then taking the challenge skills test for 70 but all this takes time..about 5 weeks.
