Mount Moran // CMC to the Summit

- Опубліковано 7 вер 2024
- During a weekend in September we set out to summit Mount Moran via the CMC route. We decided to paddle board to the foot of the mountain, something I was less than comfortable with. My fear of water can not be overestimated. After surviving my encounter with the dark, cold water of Lake Leigh we set off on foot 6,000ft up the mountain to the sold rock face of the CMC route. It was there that we confronted the rope or no rope dilemma. Also, yes life vests would have been nice. You’d think an aquaphobic such as myself would have worn two or three at the same time. Unfortunately that large rock face loomed large in our minds and pretty much blocked out everything else.
In the way companies list "Number of days without an accident", purhapes we should keep track of "Number of videos without Danny Puking." Video Count: 1 - Good Job Danny!
As a fellow puker i feel his pain :(
@@ryanv1279 What do you think causes it? Dehydration? I have never puked, but pushed it to collapsing and laying on the ground for a while. I feel bad for you guys.
@@natehartwell3402 For me the biggest thing is sleep. If i get no sleep the night before a 20+ mile day ill definitely puke and ill continue puking alllll day until i take a nap.
We need a "Spicy, but manageable" shirt 😂 I take this approach with both my adventure and my cuisine
I don’t ever buy graphic t shirts, but this is one I would absolutely buy haha
Honestly class 4/5 free solo scramble / climb. I didn’t even know it was possible to squeeze this much adventure into one outing. You are true weekend warriors. I still can’t believe you aren’t sponsored.
Danny: “We’re going to go paddle boarding.”
Me: “Ah, what a nice, chill start to my morning.”
Danny and crew: **Starts to free solo Moran**
Me: **Nervous Sweating Intensifies**
Man Chase and Aaron are such great partners for these adventures! They bring so much relaxed comedy and good vibes to these videos!
For anyone that doesn't know - these guys have a Patreon page. Link in the About section of the UA-cam profile page.
Every time y'all post a video I feel compelled to open up alltrails and plan a big route. That free solo scrambling would've sketched me out though. I'll leave that to you guys!
I just did my first scramble this past weekend and felt like I was going to die the entire time. Then Danny and crew go do this which is 100x worse than what I did. Can’t imagine free climbing that with so much exposure.
Watching you guys paddling on the first lake with the fog coming off of the water and the mountains in the background just made my day. Great video!
YES. Best way to start my morning. Cheers guys!
I would love to hear how you manage to do all these trips and manage it with every day real life. Feel like this could help a lot of people, thanks !
This is the most beautiful backdrop for any video I've seen from you guys - and I'm willing to say I've seen 80-90% of your videos
Notice at 10:59 the smooth, controlled movements, not looking down but focusing on what's in front of you - that's how to safely climb while unroped. They are not rushing and making it look easy
Agreed - these guys are ballers. Noob climber here, but I was wondering if they should take turns climbing in case the lead guy falls or kicks off a rock?
@@jmiya1 Well, them switching wouldn't actually help that. Anyone could do that.
@@jmiya1 it's better if they are closer together, that way if a loose rock falls it is less likely to hit the other person.
For example, if there's a second group further below and a rock is dislodged, where that rock will go is unpredictable and if it hit a person with high speed and force, it could be deadly
@@lifeofluke agreed! Hey I also love your channel!
This epic journey should include the disclaimer stating, “Fortunately, no one died during the filming of this journey”......WOW!!!
Nothing mediocre about this! Wow!
Best channel ever!
Like your style, light and fast! Did the CMC back in the day with a group, tents, camping gear, food, and we bushwhacked to the approach and belayed the climb. A real slog. Headed into town one night from the ranch I spotted a guy on the side of the road in the dark. He needed a ride into town, He had just finished doing the Cirque. Five peaks in less the 24 hours. That is Real light and Real fast!
I remember standing on a field of scree near the summit, when it all started to slide a few feet.
Hearing large rocks tumbling and hitting the snow field with a splash.
Love the Tetons and the Snake River. Had some good times there.
The footage in the morning on the lake was so beautiful. You guys are amazing. Thank you.
Damn, down climbing freaks me out.
I would so much prefer free soloing to down climbing. Downclimbing freaks me out!
Great video! Inspired us to make this into a "picnic" style day, riding bikes from Gros Venture camp with packrafts, soloing the CMC and back in a day. Stellar day out and made the bike, paddle, climb from camp to summit in 8 hours! Thanks for providing the stoke.
I feel like every time a new Mediocre Amateurs videos is uploaded it is Christmas! I love your content and all of the adventures you guys take. Keep up the great work!
That was honest to god, UNHINGED!
Excellent work Danny. It takes a lot of commitment to film your adventures and stay focused on safety and having your head in the game. Not to mention the suffering of editing your videos when you get home.
I love this spot. I was just there in July and did the same trip (without going all the way up to the summit though). That paddle across String Lake and Leigh Lake is worth the price of admission -- especially on a clear, smoke-free day.
Another epic journey tag along. I can't thank you guys enough for bringing us all with you on your adventures. I'm glad nobody died on drizzlepuss. 😎🙏🏼💯☮️💓💪
Bro. The footage on the paddle boards was epic! Nice work!
I thought work was going to suck this morning, and then you guys show up and save the day!
I consider myself comfortable doing free solo stuff but you guys take it to another level. Love your videos and the humor. Keep it up!!
Love what you do guys, truly inspirational.
Nice friends you went with there Danny, they didn't even bother to tell you that you were using your paddle backwards on the SUP.
When you down climb in a harness cause you kind of feel like you should really rappel it’s a free YOLO
I can't get enough of your videos
Starting at first light? Isn't that kind of a late start for you guys? Awesome vid as usual. Many thanks for the map overlay you include. I wish more adventure channels took the time to show us the map.
Watching you guys down climbing Drizzly Puss made me feel as sick as Danny after running 60 miles! :P
Epic. Definitely palm sweat inducing
That was some serious exposure without being roped up! Nice video Danny always cool to see what you guys do.
Hey Danny , I enjoyed watching your videos
Hoping to see more from you your and
Buddies . Stay safe out there
F.A.N.T.A.S.T.I.C! Such beautiful impressions!
"spicy but manageable" is what we like to see
So freaking cool you guys inspire me to get outside and explore!
I was so stressed watching that vertical scramble, I think I drizzlepussed myself.
One of the best videos of yours. Awesome scenery. Beautiful rock formation. Super amazing.
That looked awesome. One I’d love to try. Thanks for sharing your adventures!
Outstanding combination of disciplines. Enjoyed it tremendously
One of the best action outdoor channels and definitely one of my very favorite channels that I follow on UA-cam and I follow a lot! Next video can't come soon enough :) You deserve way more views! What an adventure this was, wow, fantastic action and scenery!
We've been rewatching your videos for like a month now - we find them so refreshing during these crazy times - super happy to see a new one today - and man adding the SUP was amazing!
Nice little scramble/solo! When this whole covid mess is over you should take a trip to British Columbia and sample some of the mountain goodies we have here. There's some amazing alpine adventures just in and around Vancouver.
As always, love the footage and the banter.
just got the free solo of Moran this summer with a partner, we brought gear but never felt the need to rope up. very fun climb and outing, these videos helped morale going into these sort of objectives in the tetons. aiming for Grand traverse next summer
Great video guys, looked a brilliant adventure, bit of everything 👍
That made my palms a little sweaty! Good job, guys!
That was fun to watch! Too sick to go out on adventures (for now), so I really enjoy watching the journey. Thanks for making this and stay safe :)
Wow when I climbed this I was terrified even with ropes. Can't imagine free soloing it.
Another Great Adventure! Congrats on your first successful paddle board and summit push...WELL DONE GUYS
The alert on my phone is second in excitement to the drumming at the start of every episode.
Seriously I look forward to every episode. Keep it up. You still inspire...
Nice climb guys. Enjoyed watching you climb that face. Thanks for the great video.
Love the videos, keep up the great content!
Wasn’t expecting the padding boarding.. very different with some great views... and no puking 🤮 this time . Enjoy it thanks fellas 👍
'Sowing machine leg' 😂😂😂 I know exactly what you mean!
That is a great hike. Even better fishing at the foot of mt Moran. Great job as always guys
Nice day out. Hilarious that you took paddle boards and got away with it. Years ago as an Exum Guide I was crossing in a canoe. Luckily my client had some J-stroke game and I provided the horse power. But on the way out the wind was gnarly and we actually had to pull over and eat berries until it died. Pretty epic. Clearly, the glass was in your favor but if the afternoon freight train came out of Leigh Canyon, you guys woulda been bush bashing with those boards. Type 3 fun for sure. Since then I've done it with tandem kayaks and it's a nice compromise. Anyway, makes me want to go back. Been a long time. Cheers.
Awesome. I lived too far away to climb Moran but always wanted to do it. Good with the SUP. But no, I only do dog walks. But this really shows what the terrain looks like. Thanks! PS, go climb the battleship in GCNP. Start hiking at sunset. there used to be a trail up to the summit from the notch. At Full Moon. Use dim lights, at the big bend past 1.and a half mile resthouse traverse off BA to the battleship notch. SFollow the sheep trails traversing off the BA. and maybe all trails as your guide? looking and chilling on flat deck and hike out in the morning and have breakfast at el tovar after your long hike, or something. Its very beautiful. There is also Cope Butte off the Hermit as a day hike. Ride bikes not take the shuttle and get the exposure of a knife edge.
Nice one guys! Looked like so much fun!
Stunning scenery
Saw this on your IG stories a few weeks ago, been waiting for this! One word... money
You guys are absolute studs... 3000 ft of climbing in a day and I'm toast. Sucks getting old :)
Pretty rad scrambling, glad you had good weather, would absolutely not fancy that in wet and cloudy conditions.
Freaking amazing as usual boys. You 3 made a good team, no drama. Viva La Sportiva.
Man that footage at 5:16 on the lake is just incredible!!
So strange to see the tops of these mountains are just covered with loose boulders, rocks. This is amazing to me--I can't stand heights, even watching gets to me. Thanks for the video.
Great video, guys! Fun to see Aaron and Chase on here...
Y'all don't get a thousandth of what you deserve. Great editing and cinematography 👍🏼
Incredible peak! Glad Danny didn’t fall off the paddleboard.
Loving the chill organ music
Thanks for the motivation as always!
You guys rock
Awesome work! Thanks for sharing.
Definitely ranks as one of your best videos. Loved it. That looks like a fun route. Would love to try that sometime.
At first I thought, "what a beautiful foggy morning", ..... until you mentioned all of the fires raging in the area!
There used to be a trail that went around Leigh lake, on the north side, that passed right by the scree slope you started on. So many trails are not maintained by the park "service".
I'm surprised this channel hasn't blown up yet. Great content.
It is only a matter of time, I’d imagine.
True lifestyle design. Much respect.
You guys need to do the Enchantments Trail in Washington (it’s next to a dope German town) do it as a thru hike in a day and you won’t need a permit, it’s what we did...it’s a soul crusher, with some incredible views! Love you guys, keep doing what you do!
sitting here stressing on election day--this is just what I needed to take my mind off of things. Thanks guys!
Your channel rocks! Keep up the awesome content!
Amazing views at the summit! 😯 Though I am bummed about the fires going on out there especially in Colorado. I pray that the fires will be contained. This adventure was cool! Gave me motivation to keep going out there. 😁
Amazing. I think your confidence, talent, endurance and strength gets you through these challenges. An accident will make you more cognizant of the importance of taking a more conservative approach perhaps. A risk all extreme athletes take.
Ultimate! Mix of everything!
another great video! take it easy
Years ago ,the local rangers told me it was an impossible climb and had never been climbed . Though BS and climbed it , Exum ridge earlier in the week . 1964 .
Crux was getting around the bears
Oh yeah ,soloed both .
If this is an amateur effort, I’m not even a greenhorn.
These guys need to go for the Barkley Marathons
It’s a good day when you guys upload.
Looking at that summit, I thought “The Grinch Who Stole Christmas” mountain without snow. Like it was drawn by a 1960s animator. But I was raised in Fl, where mountains are 500 ft above sea level. Totally awesome climb.
SUP boys, top notch as always.
Awesome. Great stuff!!
Sick guys!
Wow, what a trip! That smoke was awful.
you guys are madmen for downclimbing instead of rappelling from drizzlepus!
You guys need to hit up the Wham Ridge on Vestal Peak in Colorado. The final stretch here looks like it was really similar difficulty-wise
Another amazing video!!!
Nothing like that blurred line between class 4 and 5 without ropes haha...pretty gripped watching this
