Destroyer is a 2005, Bruce Far designed TP52 that was built in New Zealand by Cookson Boats of carbon fiber epoxy pre-preg with a Nomex core sandwich construction. Foam coring was used up forward in the "slamming areas" for added strength.
Vacuum-bagged throughout with carbon/foam infused interior structure. with monocoque type construction forward of the mast.
The interior arrangement has been simplified to its racing functionality. The resulting weight savings was used to congregate weight centrally in the boat to reduce pitching inertia and allow some exchange of volumes between appendages and hull.
Destroyer was built to ABS Offshore Racing Guidelines and is one of the few TP52s that is set up for offshore racing. This has been proven time and again with 3 Transpacs, Cabo, Ensenada and So Cal 300 races under her belt.
Deck was completely redone in 2018-2019 with all stanchions and push-pits removed, sanded and painted. The Harken winches were serviced as well as all of the deck hardware removed prior to paint. A new non-skid deck was sprayed on and the cockpit received soft SeaDek flooring. All inspection ports in the cockpit and the deck prisms were either repaired or replaced.
The engine is a Yanmar 40 HP (4JH4E) diesel sail-drive. The lower sail-drive unit was replaced in June of 2018. Engine overhaul n Spring of 2019 included new fuel lines, heat exchanger and exhaust manifold along with the servicing of all filter etc.Destroyer has a bronze 2-blade folding Gori propeller. Current engine house as of August 2019 are:
Destroyer has been outfitted and updated with all of the latest safety equipment needed for offshore racing

We raced Destroyer in the 2019 Transpac and finished 3 in Class A beating all of the Sleds boat for boat. During the race we regularly saw boat speeds in the 18 to mid 20 kts. range with our top speed going down the swells in the Molokai Channel hitting 26 kts. of boat speed. She was a wet ride on deck, but fairly dry down below because we spent a lot of time prior to the race in what I would call "water control management". Biggest thing during the race was the constant noise down below. At high speed the boat literally hums and with the constant trimming of sheets, you don't get a lot of sound sleep. Still in all would not trade the experience for anything. Regards, Jim Bailey, Owner.

Hi Scott, Love you content!! I did search and try to figure this out but can't. When a boat like this wins the Transpac, what's it's average speed ? Any other details that you, the anarchy spreading sailing encyclopedia, would want to bestow upon this pollywog?

Hello Scott - Thank you, Terrific, enjoyable series.
Really like the retro / vintage yachts.
Question, we sailed an Aussie Yacht, - Nyamba, Clipper Cup 1980 - to San Diego that year
    for sale.
Wondering if you know of the yacht, and or if still sailing in the area.
San Diego and the Islands were terrific sailing, cheers 🇦🇺😊

Scott you should try to get onboard “Tatoosh.” She’s an 80 foot Ketch designed by Ben Seaborn and built by Vic Franck for the Boeing family. Used to Peter Fonda’s boat too. I think she’s somewhere in Coronado.

Scot - that nav station setup just makes no sense as you describe it. You sure there’s no chair or cradle to keep the Navi intact when they’re humming along in breeze? Who’s usually doing nav on Destroyer?

    • @louietuey

Nope, the Navigator had a pad that he sat on or slept on when he tried to sleep. He tucked a spinnaker behind him for back support once we hit the trades. Jib Kelly has been out navigator since we bought the boat in the Fall of 2017.
