Nyman at his best. Beautiful and so inspiring, intensely "conclusive" and "tragic" while opening up onto new horizons, with energy and a conquering spirit. Majestic.
First heard at the NYC Ballet and fell in love. Hauntingly beautiful and romantic. Puts you into a different place and time. Stopped looking at the ballet to close my eyes to full appreciate the music. A wonderful evening in discovering this music and Lauren's rendition of the music for the Ballet. Most appreciated, Susan
Fulfillment my dear, an everlasting and blessed sensation of beatitude. Music and some films do transport us to places we never dreamed existed. Your description of it will be guarded as a jewel.
It's my favorite film too. It makes me ecstatic. I can't understand why it's so hard to find other people who love it. I recommended it to a friend in high school and his mother disapproved of it and told him he couldn't be friends with me anymore.
When I first rented it from the video store, it had to be paused because the phone rang, and while my mother was on the phone I had to run outside and sing what I could remember of the songs I'd just heard.
"Prospero's Magic" is thrilling, and "Miranda" is quite lovely, but there's something about "Cornfield" that makes me pause what I'm doing to listen more closely.
Did anyone ever detect the similarity with the piece "Summer" from the movie "Requiem for a dream"? Composer did steal symphonic theme concept from "Prospero" check it out and you shall agree.
@@MrVektriol He's a horribly over-rated director. I remember a BBC documentary from the late 80s/early 90s that superimposed Greenaway's music over random footage from the archive. Presto! The Greenaway effect. Notice how PG's career peak ended when Nyman buggered off and he had to lean on his own visuals.
MrVektriol Greenaway films are usually very smart, meticulously thought out, full of references...... , generally too witty and intellectual for the general audience/ viewers And yes, Michael Nyman‘ s music and these films were a fantastic combination!
Oh, my! When I first saw Prospero's Books in the cinema in Chicago, I immediately found it just gorgeous -- hard to understand, but really wanted to own it to leave it playing always, as a piece of art. I found it really gorgeous. And, I've loved Michael Nyman's music since first hearing it in A Zed and Two Noughts, even as odd as that music was... totally memorable, for me.
Tastes are tastes and cannot be disputed. I was referring to the different relevance given to rhythm by Nyman when conducting his band - his emphasis on beats always amazes me.
Pure poetry, 31 years later. Very touching, in the verge of tears. Nothing to add

Dentro de muchos siglos , esta música seguirá siendo escuchada y venerada por los que entonces la disfruten. Eterno Michael Nyman.
1000% de acuerdo. La dupla Greenaway - Nyman esta mas alla de todo

One of the best movies ever.

I LOVE THIS FILM SO MUCH I WANNA EXPLODE INTO A MILLION PIECES OF STAR DUST EVERY TIME I THINK ABOUT IT AND FILL THE SKY WITH A SUPER NOVA.
I find my zenith doth depend on a most auspicious star

Pure beauty
magnificent
My favourite Nyman!
Mine too!
Wonderful. Thank you terribly.
ナイマンの音楽は直ぐに「あ!これナイマン!」と判るほど、個性豊か。執拗な程の反復から徐々に千変広がる旋律とリズムの魅力が、味わい深い!
Long Live His Nymanjesty
sublime!
I’m speechless
ive been looking for this
this music is magic
Um belo filme, imagens , dialógos , música e sequência encadeados na construção de uma obra prima.
I was very surprised when I discovered most of these songs were actually composed for La Traversé de Paris and not just for Greenaway's film.
Thanks for sharing!
O. M MN looks like no oops o
This and the Cornfield stand the test of time as well as any 20th Century pieces I've heard.
Beautiful. Filme e trilha!!! Amooo
So so sooooooo beautiful and fascinating....omg...I never heard this version for chamber orchestra before☆☆☆☆☆
Música deliciosa y sublime ❤
SO good!

Wow....... So beautiful XXXx
What I call "Classical Prog"!

“What are you most worried about? The rain? Lewis Hamilton? Or Jenson Button?”
“Fernando Alonso.” -Christian Horner.
La tempesta. Grande film. Grande colonna sonora.
Fantástico
Einfach Traumhaft.
Glad you like it!
Siempre❤️
found this masterpiece in a documentary about Egypt which I was not able to find a day later...
This and The Cornfield stand the test of time as well as any 20th Cenury piece.
This is nice.
I had to turn it off for a moment there, I thought it was going to give me the wobbles
Yes u are right
❤
Ad Maiora Semper!
Micheal Nyman, Philip Glass is techno but set to baroque classical style.
I do
Yes ur right
diese langsame Version hat etwas tolles
Who is the subject in the portrait?
The Lutenist Michael Schäffer (1937-1978).
Mi prenos vin kun mi
What instrument is the man on the picture holding in his hands
It's a lute. This musician was a german lutenist.
Some sort of stringed instrument, I think.
Not a lute, but most probably a theorbo, a baroque plucked string instrument.
this version more familiar with MGV suite
🤘😍🤘🌷🌷🌷🌷🌷🌷🌷
Dior 2011 😘😘
Though I think Prospero is one of Greenaway's weakest films, this score is brilliant.
+ sskoog
I think all films by Greenaway are weak.

A rather uncanny approach, totally different from the authors' direction.
Grazia Cavasino Nyman himself arranged this suite for chamber orchestra. I prefer this one than the version performed by the Michael Nyman's Band.

Musica che avvicina al Creatore.
