Okay, Journey pretty much ruled during my years in college (1978-1982) and they did not have a bad song! I absolutely love Steve Perry's voice, there is no other like him. I was so lucky to have seen them live at the Hartford Civic Center in CT in 1983!! The 3 songs I think you should do next are-"Anyway you Want it", "Lovin, Touchin, Squeezin" and "Girl Can't Help it". 😊😊😊
This was the very first song, I ever heard from Journey, when I was a little girl. And Classic Journey has been my group ever since!! And that's Classic Journey!!!
Journey is a great American rock band formed in 1973 by former members of Santana, Steve Miller Band & Frumious Bandersnatch. Journey had their biggest commercial success between 78-87, when Steve Perry was lead vocalist. They had so many hits including "Who's Crying Now", "Still They Ride", "Wheel In The Sky", "Send Her My Love", "After The Fall", "Lovin', Touchin', Squeezin'", "Any Way You Want It" etc.
I've said before, back in the day (and I was born in 82) it wasn't usually enough just to be able to play an instrument if your band was heavy on vocals. You had to not only be an excellent musician, but you HAD TO be able to hold your own with the lead singer as a backup, even if not at his talent level. Some of the more impressive examples of this in my opinion were Phil Collins and Don Henley (The Eagles, a-la Hotel California), who sang vocal leads WHILE PLAYING DRUMS. Love your reactions bro, keep em coming.
70s 80s bands dressed like that and at least back then we had the joy of watching videos on Mtv, that doesn’t exist anymore. The video brings me back to the era, fabulous
I love your reactions of Journey. Steve as well as the rest of them, they all had their own style. They were what they wanted back then. Steve Perry was well known for the long tails that you see him wearing different colors, black red white.❤️👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Most of the harmonies you are hearing on this song are Steve Perry, multi-tracked. Neal Schon made a comment once along the lines of this album having a hundred layers of Steve's voice. Gregg Rolie's voice is probably in there as well, but the harmonies are mostly Steve. That's a whole other element of his vocal abilities that doesn't always get recognized. He knew how to sing multiple parts to get a solid harmony going. Many of their videos will show the band singing along, but the original studio tracks are mostly Steve.
Top three - Who's Crying Now, Don't Stop Believing, - Loving, Touching, Squeezing. When you branch out of Journey and into Steve's solo career - his official video for Oh Sherrie is a MUST. Has his real life gf in at the time - and is just a really funny video. And his song Foolish Heart is just,..........beautiful vocal PERFECTION. Enjoy the ride. Cheers from Canada!
"Lovin', Touchin', Squeezin'"is a great banger that doesn't get much air play, but so good. "Mother, Father" live from Houston is one of the best songs to showcase Perry's voice. "Feeling That Way" features Rolie and Perry and was one of the first collaborative songs they wrote when Perry joined the band.
Journey was originally a jazz-fusion/rock band but was not experiencing popular success until their management brought in Steve Perry and they blew up soon after! They had many great songs you would really like. Try Loving/Touching/Squeezing , Open Arms, Faithfully for starters
One of my favorite Journey songs. Amazing harmonies, vocals and Neal Schon on guitar. Neal Schon on guitar and Greg Rollie on piano are the founders of Journey. They previously played with Santana before that. Neal Schon started with Santana when he was 16 yrs. old. Incredible talent.
The late 70’s was fun. Neal Schon guitarist started the band with the keyboard Gregg Rollie. They both played with Santana for some years. Steve Perry came in fall 1977, the rest is history. Had a few changes by 1981, different drummer and keyboard player.
Great reaction young man! You're getting great suggestions from your subs so I'm going to put my 2 cents worth in! The best live performance I've witnessed is "Wheel in the Sky" live 1980 in Osaka Japan! Steves solo intro will blow you away and the way he interacts with the crowd is priceless!!!! Hello from Texas🤠🤠🤠
That's the way music was back in the day. Everyone mostly sang back up. At least from what I remember. Steve Perry was my crush in jr. high. Loved that man. The entire album, Journey Infinity is worth listening to. TOP 3 Lovin' touchin' squeezin', City of the Angels, wheel in the sky. Really all of the ones from the late 70s.
Hello, how're you doing? Your comments caught my attention and that is why I am reaching out to you. Your fan love for me warms my heart, Thank you! It's nice meeting you here.
Steve is has an absolute angelic voice but the whole band also got some pipes! Their harmonization skills are definitely underrated cause it adds a lot of spice to their song. You can hear it too in the end of Lovin’ Touchin’ Squeezin’ and Girl Can’t Help It
Hello Runette, how're you doing? Your comments caught my attention and that is why I am reaching out to you. Your fan love for me warms my heart, Thank you! It's nice meeting you here.
Neil Schon on guitar . Was playing in Santana at 15 at Woodstock with Greg Rollie on keyboards and Greg was the lead singer for Santana. Schon is a bonafied LEGEND ! When Perry joined Journey , is when all the magic happened . The band has a catalog of hits . At least 30- 40 deep . Check out their last album and when you love a woman . Wont be disapointed .
That was the fashion back then, what they were wearing. Also, I don't remember them being involved in the making of the music videos. Someone like Michael Jackson would have the idea, put it on the screen and make sure every element was exactly how he wanted it to send his message but bands like this, they hired people to do all of that and they just performed.
This song was released in 1978, we didnt have MTV until 1981. Clips are from the 70s with that clothing, so I wonder when this was really put together? 🤔LOL
In terms of editing, technology was new. Computers weren’t a thing. I got my broadcasting degree in 1992 and we were still being taught to physically splice tape. Cut it with a blade and tape it back together. And as far as clothing styles. He would probably think you look weird now. Technology has advanced since the '70's…there are pros and cons. As said "I'll take that old time rock 'n roll".
Back then, it was typical that most or all of the band members could sing at least background or harmonies. Musical acts back then were assembled by the artists themselves, finding other talented people with whom they could gel. Only people with actual talent did this stuff. Talent was a prerequisite. It was also expected by everyone. It was typical. It was normal. People growing up in the digital world might have difficulty comprehending this because they have always had things to make them sound good, whether singing or playing. Back then, there was nothing, except talent. This is why the music back then is so awesome. I am so glad to have grown up with that kind of music being typical.
This is about the city where Journey and I were born: San Francisco 🌉. I remember this when I was walking the Streets of San Francisco. Michael Douglas was in other parts being filmed for tv 📺 L 🤣L Credit the producer for the vocal harmonies. Roy Baker produced Journey, Queen and The Cars in the 1970s. RB must have had a load of horse 🐎 power! L🤣L Greg Rolie on keyboards and is other lead singer. He, guitarist Neal Schon and bass guitarist Ross Valory quit Santana. Then, they founded Journey. Prairie Prince was on drums 🥁 for an album. But he returned to The Tubes. Ansyley Dunbar on drums for most of tbe albums until 1981. When Journey broke up, NS and Jonathan Cain founded Bad English. John Waite and Ricky Phillips reunited with Jonathan Cain in Bad English. Meanwhile, GR, RV and Steve Smith founded The Storm. In 1991, both bands released albums. Steve Perry released his 2nd album For the Live of Strange Medicine and sang on the soundtrack to the animated movie 🎥 Camelot. Suggested videos 📹: 1 Journey performs Open Arms 2 The Storm performs I've Got a Lot to Learn about Love. 3 Bad English performs Straight to Your Heart ❤ 4 Steve Perry and David Foster perform I Stand Alone. My top Journey songs 1 Open Arms 2 Lights 3 Separate Ways.
The ‘effects’ are very ‘70’s…. Sooo fun.lol. I was in kindergarten in 1971 so I remember the 70’s well …still my fave decade.. lol. Ohhhh they were outta-this-world phenomenal. Neal Schon is the lead guitarist, and he and the keyboard player with the big hair and mustache is Gregg Rolie. Gregg and Neal were in the band ‘Santana’. It was 1968-73. They played at Woodstock. He was only like 15 years old and Greg would pick him up from school to go to practice. When Santana broke up, they started Journey which had a different name at first. They called themselves ‘TheGolden Gate Rhythm Section’ but right after that, they became Journey. Steve Perry didn’t join until 1977. Evolution is my favorite album and I think that was 1978. They were so good so fast. Check out Lovin’, Touchin’, Squeezin’ from the midnight special. That was a show that was literally on at midnight that always had a guest band or singer. You would get to see Wolfman Jack. he was huge in the 70s… Like a DJ and host on different shows dealing with rock ‘n’ roll. Look him up. He was really cool. We thought so anyway. Enjoy. You will not find anything better than Journey, they are the BEST.
Uhhhhh... it's not the 80's... it's the 70's and I NEVER heard any asking for forgiveness for existing in the 70's. Today's musicians may have sophisticated videos, but they don't have real music in the purest sense.
Can't beat Steve Perry with Journey. Wow, what a wonderful sound. Thanks for the reaction. You haven't reacted to Home Free in a while, my favorite acapella band. I'd like to request their Butt Remix Medley, It will blow you away.
hi michael, hope you're good. neil shon is the guitarist, that's how i found you, you were reacting to don't stop believing and anything journey i'm there. steve perry, imo, is the best frontman ever and journey the best group. they are all talented singers in there own right. loved your jaw drop reaction btw. as for the video, that was the height of technology back then lol.

Very popular song in the Bay Area back then (even thought it was first written about L.A. and changed around for San Francisco). When you were driving around "The City" and it would come on the radio it would get cranked up.😎 I don't mean to sound like an old fart complaining or getting nostalgic, but San Francisco and the Bay Area was a lot better place back then (imo).
If you want to hear the best of Steve Perry's vocal range, there are 2 songs you have to check out..."Lovin, Touching and Squeezinn" and "Jesse Rides". These two songs really highlight his vocal range.
This group could absolutely do no wrong. They sounded much better in studio. My favorite song from them is Separate Ways which was released in 1986. The current band is still going yet without Steve. My 3 favorites are: 1) Separate Ways: 2) Wheel in the Sky and 3) Who's Cryin Now. Thank you for your reactions.
Michael, treat yourself to one of their best songs, “Wheel In The Sky.” The link is below. You will really hear Steve’s awesome vocals shine but also, take note when the guitar solo is happening, Steve goes to stand beside him and lets out an extremely high vocalization! Enjoy☺️. ua-cam.com/video/UgeJ15aucdc/v-deo.html

Your criticisms are invalid, only because you are way too young. Remember, this video is from 1978 - 45 years ago!!! It was cutting edge technology at the time. As for the clothing, well - many rock stars considered themselves to be fashion trendsetters, or at the very least wanted a unique look. If you look at the early-mid 1960's, everyone in the band dressed alike, usually in suit/tie or some type of uniform. Late 1960's, "Flower Power", you have the hippie fashion trends. 1970's - bell bottoms and platform shoes. On and on. - btw - Saw Journey back in March. The are currently on their 50th Anniversary tour, although Neil Schon (guitar) is the only original member still with Journey. Actually, from this video - Neal is the only remaining member. Journey had a lot of lineup changes. Jonathan Cain, who was the keyboardist during Journey's huge 1980's success is also currently on tour with Journey.
You're right. Neil Schon's guitar playing, and his soaring solos, are often overshadowed (unintentionally-without ego), by Steve Perry's amazing vocals...but for me, being the total guitar geek that I always was...not one of Schon's guitar licks is lost on me. He truly is an outstanding soloist. I saw them when their ESCAPE album made them the #1 stadium act in North America and they were tight and polished and put on a great show with hit after hit.
Steve Perry…the “Voice” Nobody better!!! And guitarist, Neal Schon. Journey is my all-time favorite rock band. Check out their song “Who’s cry in’ now”. Neal has a beautiful guitar solo at the end of the songs that’s one of my favorites!!!

Yall do great until you start talking about how dumb things were back then. Journey is an Arena Rock band. Those were the clothes of a rock band in that era. That was Flash ans Sizzle. As for the editing...sure...weird by todays standards. But we didnt even have Toaster back when this was recorded. (Google "flying toaster" it was a computer program that allowed primitive ( by todays standards) animations) thats what was popular. We went for it. We dug what they were doing. As for harmonies...yes,band members in a lot of bands provided harmony and basic back up vocals. It was common. For another shot at that kind of goodness, check out The Eagles 'Seven Bridges Road". Nice little country rock ditty with excellent harmonizing. A lay off slamming the way we did things. I would have been embarrassed to laugh at hough folks from the 1940s handled their entwrtainment and how they dressed.🤔

Go listen to how it was done later, as in Houston'81 to see how their music developed and became even better. Hard to believe, but true. And somewhere someone is making fun of what your generation is wearing. Stop judging style.
Lovin’ touchin’ squeezin’ , Feeling that way / Anytime and Lights are my favs.
"Mother Father - Live in Houston, 1981" is an absolute MUST; the notes Steve Perry hits near the end of the song will blow your mind.
Amazing performance
Looks like Steve will be on Dolly’s new rock album, singing Open Arms together! Can’t wait!

@@corinecabrera9435 Thank you for being an amazing fan Corine would like to talk more better, the first digitss 213 then follow by 814 and the last 555 and 7.
That's Neil Shone. I think I spelled Neil's name wrong. He played guitar with Carlos Santana.
❤
That is the 70's.
What you have never heard this !
You would love the Eagles too. They have great harmony’s.
you also did mother father by journey
Michael, treat yourself to one of their best songs, “Wheel In The Sky.” The link is below. You will really hear Steve’s awesome vocals shine but also, take note when the guitar solo is happening, Steve goes to stand beside him and lets out an extremely high vocalization! Enjoy☺️.

He usually wore tails with a t-shirt.
Yeah, 80’s we’re crazy times. Imagine every member of a band being able to sing well! Um…. What???
👋👋👋👋👋♥️♥️♥️♥️

'70s video editing, my friend. '70s.
This is 1978, not the 80s.
Every one knows the legendary Neil Schon. And as for the their attire that’s the 80s it’s wasn’t out of place THEN ! I mean really ? I guess you had to be there !

Anyway u want it

Go listen to how it was done later, as in Houston'81 to see how their music developed and became even better. Hard to believe, but true. And somewhere someone is making fun of what your generation is wearing. Stop judging style.
70s, just sayin
Forgive the 80s style editing??? Lol like it’s not used today to seem cool
You said it was from 1978 and yet you said you will forgive the 80's editing 😕
Just don’t make music and bands like this anymore…thanks again Journey
