Imagine the confusion of bringing 5 void rays to kill 3 of your opponent's void rays, but STILL losing the fight because your opponent had a sentry. ...And the sentry is shooting his own units.
Reminds me a little of speedrunners, they know all the tiny relevant details since its so important to get the small things right. It also makes a ton of sense in this case since this guy is literally focusing on a tiny part of the game compared to more "normal" players, but puts in just as much work and practice.
Well it seems to me that this guy practices cannon rushes the same way someone like Serral practices Zerg, the entire race. Every single cannon rush gets decided by these tiny details and micro-optimizations, while Serral has that all that practice time in controlling 200/200 armies with multiple fronts and casters, mid game timing attacks, etc.
Everytime I watch these cannon rush videos they seem so chaotic. Yolo fuck it let’s just que up a game and we can figure out what to do in the middle of the cannon rush
I fucking love these guys chemistry. It's like they make each other anxious while trying to communicate what to do in fractions of a second. It's stress-porn
I think part of the reason why they don't plan in advance is because the wall-off spots and strategies are very map dependent, so planning beforehand would essentially be a full episode of its own just to go over every common possibility on every possible map he could roll. So they discuss it on the fly instead: that way it lets you learn things as you go, one map at a time, rather than all at once
I feel like having you review a replay or two from him of him completing cannon rushes successfully before trying them yourself would be helpful at this point, because it seems like you're making little mistakes because you're not as knowledgeable as he is in some areas, and he's not exactly communicating everything you need to know promptly, but you're a quick learner, so I would say that would help quite a bit. Back in the day when there was that one guy that would do Cannon Rushing to Masters 1 streams every day, forget his name, I actually had him do it on one of my accounts once for the lulz, think it was like $20 and well worth the entertainment value. That account forever has the Masters as highest rank achieved thing thanks to that lol
Boanaan : "He's gonna come down." Harstem: "Nah, he won't." Boanaan: "Yes he will, he's a Zerg." Harstem: "Nah, he won't." Boanaan: "Yes he will, that's what Zergs do." Harstem: "If he comes down he has actual brain damage." Zerg Player: Harstem: If only someone could have warned him!
Harstem in IODIS: "This guy says he doesn't float minerals, but his production lines are full! That's cheating!" Also, Harstem's probe production line: 7:42
Whereas most folks stroke their ego and fling emotions at each other. These guys did this and they stuck with it to the end. Funnily enough, you can only take away what you brought with you.
i saw another comment say this but this is one of the ONLY situations i would EVER agree to watching someone else's replay... as nice as he is, and trying to help, he is not being as detail oriented as i would need someone to be. "to the right of him" means anything from next to his units, buildings, to other side of map... it needs to be super super detailed. down to the squares.
damn this started off so good and so happy... but it just derailed SO HARD after ONE loss. this is textbook tilt off one loss. i'm glad you uploaded it nonetheless. i would 100% make a part2 after you do a few non-recorded games, watch maybe 3-5 games where he wins and 1-3 where he loses and he explains how he won/when he won as well as how he loss/when he loss. then start a stream/recording of 1.6brains vs 1 brain
That sentry bug sounds like classic Blizzard coding lol, can't believe this guy thinks it would be impossible to fix though, they just need to make the beams independent of each other, there is no reason they should be effecting each other.
I am watching this to defend against cannon rush. Harstem, you guys should do a little practice and coaching beforehand. The tennis coach shouldn't need to cover walking and running on the first day. After getting cannon rushed many times, I know the placement makes or breaks the cannon rush. You need to find a way to restrict access (reduce attack surface area) against your cannon. This is how I lost to most of my cannon rush.
The biggest problem with this approach to coaching cannon rushing is that Harstem clearly doesn't know what the win condition is if the game goes past the building cannons stage. Harstem and Boanaan need to talk in advance about what the transition is out of the cannon rush and how that transition is supposed to win the game. Without an idea of what the goal is, Harstem is lost. And this is not to be insulting to Harstem, I have no idea either. When Boanaan says to cannon rush the Zerg natural then just build a half dozen cannons and batteries and Stalkers I don't see how that's supposed to win either. Doesn't the Zerg just eventually get overwhelming force and crush you? How does this win?
Zerg only really outpaces Protoss economically once they have 3 injected hatcheries. Before that, Protoss outpaces Zerg w/chronoboost. Once the Zerg is contained in 1 base the objective is getting 3 nexi (chronoboost), 2 mineral lines, gases and as much army as you can, and then go kill him.
@@enriquegarciacota3914 Well that's not how any of these ZvPs played out. The Zerg got enough units to eventually come down and kill Harstem, attacking directly into all the cannons and shield batteries like it was nothing while both players were only mining from one base (even with the 2nd hatchery, the Zergs were only mining from their mains). So how do you explain that?
I feel like cannon rushes are not great for live coaching. At least in terms of success rate. Too many details that require quick execution. Which is just prone to mistakes snowballing out of control. Comments like "lots of things could have gone better" simply do nothing for both harstem and the audience. Like others have said, having a replay session first explaining the theories in each match up while the live coaching is more focused on exact pylon / cannon placement. This would cut down on things for harstem to process and execute during the game and lead to higher success rate. Plus seeing a successful cannon rush example works be both entertaining for the audience and help Harstem visualize the execution better as well.
I think what You really need to do Harstem, is reacting to Grubby's 12 day old video about balance issues. I know that shitting on people, and calling them braindead and idiot is much easier, but if You really think that You are so smart, and You value reasonable arguments more than anything else, than speak up. Tell us why Grubby's arguments are invalid.
LMAO these "coaching" episodes are so bad, all you do is lose. There is no actual coaching its just you failing to do what the other guy tells you to do with miserable micro.
Imagine the confusion of bringing 5 void rays to kill 3 of your opponent's void rays, but STILL losing the fight because your opponent had a sentry.

I need to see this
It seems like the canon rushers are always incredibly knowledgeable about game details

14:13 - So frustrated he became a racing car xD
4:29 "i don't think you won, your oppenent lost". Damn this bonaan is brutaly honest.

Que platinum league mistakes.

1 brain is good
1.5 brains are better
*0.6 brains are good, 1.6 brains are better
"if he comes down he has actual brain damage"
zerg comes down literally 1 second later lol
and kills him :P
Ye and wins the game, so who's the one with brain damage?
@@Bhuyakasha ya, that was the more important part
Could you next time show some replays of Boanaan with commentary? I would love to see an actual pro cannon rushes instead of you trying your best :D
Check out combatex lol
Same
Guys, Harstem is crying now. :'(
"Sometimes I ask questions for the viewers" is the most Harstem line ever.

nah harstem is just terrible at probeius micro
Completely agree. He cannot communicate everything needed fast enough so Harstem is essentially flying blind to the plan half the time
2:14 "Okay, that is the probe that you shouldn't lose..."
Boanaan : "He's gonna come down."
Harstem: "Nah, he won't."
Boanaan: "Yes he will, he's a Zerg."

What I find wonderful about Banaan is that he sounds like I imagined him to sound. He's a wonderful person.
Harstem in IODIS: "This guy says he doesn't float minerals, but his production lines are full! That's cheating!"
Also, Harstem's probe production line: 7:42
Man, you losing those probes constantly in the beginning really killed me! Good stuff.
One day we will figure out where next to the nexus is
@Harstem Just wanted to say congrats on the brilliant series you just played against GungFuBanda! Well played and congrats on advancing!
That "every" was the most emphatic "every" I’ve ever heard 10:06
Whereas most folks stroke their ego and fling emotions at each other. These guys did this and they stuck with it to the end. Funnily enough, you can only take away what you brought with you.
I can watch cannon rushing all day.
Good video as always. could you couch Raynor at protoss?

that lance armstrong story xD.... i think the massive amount of illegal drugs he used helped too
27:51 lmao
Coaches need a discount fee for cheese only that'd be epic
Lambo is my favorite Progamer, can i please get that replay? Also like for him
Banana man!
If boannan had a UA-cam id watch
@Harstem you need to cannon rush in a tournament. after coaching from the best
W vid
I think harstem just needs to have better probe micro. Just coach on that LOL
Please do an investor rush cheesiest man alive / bgmwss. If such a thing is viable at all.
more cheese = more likes.
love you :)

Harstem really needs probe micro coaching before he attempts advanced concepts like cannon rush :)
EXPAND AFTER THE INITIAL CHEESE. One basing after 10m is bad

one base or die. that’s the win condition

no credits to who this "pro" is - unfortunate for him :-/

So cannonrush is just not good at some level I guess
The pro coach should have provided more detailed instructions and done so faster / overcommunicated. Harstem had to ask too many questions.
I don't think he is in any way a coach. He's a guest expert cannon rusher.
you should have your coach play some games to show us how it's done. these vids where you hardly win just suck to watch
i have seen bronzes better at cannoning
most of these are just so pathetic. MaNa has much better cannon rush.... :(

how is this a cannon rush?? L video ngl lmaoo
God Harstem, you are terrible at cannon rushes. Always these 50 million mistakes.
You being coached is my favourite episodes. More please!
Man, cannonrushing is an art
