They can’t live in aquariums, the water pressure isn’t enough for them. They look like that because they were pulled out from living under lots of pressure and their skin swelled up.
this is abuse stop supporting aquariums , I mean look at that fish legit it's in a small circle all it can do is circle around and do nothing?? its disgusting.
Okay, just clarification, sunfish are not the heaviest bony fish. Humans are bony fish. All land animals are bony fish. The heaviest bony fish is the blue whale.
@Fabulousprofound168 I know. I'll never understand why they don't at the very least, provide them with a more natural aquarium. Make it bigger and make it look more like the ocean at least. Or maybe have him share a tank with other types of fish they already have that would coexist with him in the wild anyway.
@ I don’t know enough about the circumstances that has this sunfish isolated and alone in a featureless tank. I thought it might be temporary but when I tried searching here on UA-cam and there are videos going back years showing it alone, whereas there is an aquarium in Osaka that has more than one sunfish in a shared tank with other fish in a simulated ecosystem where a diver goes in to hand feed the sunfish 🤷♂️
@Fabulousprofound168 it's all very sad for the poor creature! I don't even like visiting zoos or aquariums because of this. I know some of them end up there as rescues, but it's still very sad. 🥺

Well in nature he would be part of the food chain. It would also be heartbreaking getting eaten by a shark.
yeah it’s terrible
It's not that serious. A bunch of clothes taped to the glass made it feel better.

That fish is intelligent enough to eventually figure out they’re not real
Him being highly social and them having him in a tank like that on his own is diabolical
Ocean sunfish are solitary creatures that typically live alone
But yeah, it is cruel for social creatures to be kept in isolation

i like that they did that for him but they should really put more decor and stuff inside his tank to make it feel more natural

What kind of decor without taking up his limited space as it is?
I agree with you. To be fair though, sunfish are open ocean dwellers. There isn't much to look at in the wild for them anyways.

Sunfish are not social
Has anyone thought of shutting down an aquarium that has no visitors and moving the fish to another location?

Sunfish are solitary, but they do indeed need lots of space since they travel miles across ocean
@BassFish111 It's not about that but it's about the emotions they can feel and express when they're going through a hard time.
Lot of animals in zoos or aquarium tend to be quite lonely, and you see them often long for comparison w other animals…
