      Cartoon Universe at first, i though the same on Pearl. But, this is how Garnet title then after they joined the Crystal Gems. The line dor Bismuth. A Bismuth that build weapons instead buildings for the tyrrant. What Garnet meant is Pearl dint belonged to anyone after she join the Crystal Gems.

      Dont we have to consider that garnet was confused about what reality they were living in? She did confuse the fact that onion was taken and he was still on earth, so she could have mixed up some stuff about the past without even realizing it... the whole story could have been a lie or just some parts of it. I think we should consider this.

    I like that everyone is wrong about rose. It makes me think of how historical figures are "idealized" over time making them seem like "perfect" versions of themselves when they were as flawed as the rest of us

    But think, garnet wasn't actually there. She came in later. In the episode "the answer" garnet tells her story of how she met rose and pearl. I think we will only find out if pearl's past is revealed.

    • @aliciasegunda3555
      @aliciasegunda3555 6 років тому +2

      I think there are two key characters: Pearl and Padparadscha. with Pearl past is going to reveal a big part of Rose story since they seems to know each other at the beggining, and when Pearl want to talk about the past, something inside her always stops herself! And Padparadscha is able to see the past, at some point she is gonna see her potential and she will see what happened in the rebelion 5 thousand years ago with her powers....

      We actually need Pearl and, possibly, Jasper's sides of the story.
      Two opposite sides and takes on the same event between one who loves and one who hates...the REAL truth is somewhere between those two sides.
      Pearl was her loyal servant, and Jasper is most likely a sister. She claims to have fought AGAINST Rose's forces and even had once had respect for her. So it is highly likely she was around back then, and given both are Quartz born on Earth...They are likely sister gems. "My diamond! Your diamond! Pink Diamond!"
      Given Sugar wants to redeem Jasper as much as a lot of us fans want, I have always believed we would get a harsh truth from Jasper about Rose. I never bought the story the Crystal Gems told about her. Anytime someone tries that hard to tell that saintly a story, they are hiding something.

    Hmm well when they said "Pearl without a owner" I think they meant their status after they rebelled if you see how the other gems are called, example: "A Bismuth that crafted swords"

  • @bernievidivici1260

    Take note that Garnet was talking about the backstory of Rose Quarts after she has met her already. Rose and Pearl met Garnet after they have started the rebellion, and therefore Rose may or may not have stated the truth about her origins to Garnet and to the rest. What we are seeing in Garnet's flashback is not the most accurate of backstories as Garnet did not experience the actual start of the rebellion itself (only in the latter parts). I think the show runners deliberately tried to do this to confuse the audience and the characters themselves. Imagine a "truth bomb" about Rose's past that Garnet never knew and might even go against with what she knows? Story-wise, I'm liking where this is going.

  • @Cosmos24746

    The story Garnet told still hasn't changed the way I think about Rose Quartz. I think someone is lying to our faces. I personally believe that the truth is right in front of our faces but we just can't see it. I think we will get the truth soon :)

  • @Craftsworldsocial
    @Craftsworldsocial 6 років тому +392

    I think your taking everything garnet says at face value when everything else in the show suggests otherwise. Remember pearls line "when I served... homeworld" suggesting she served, she had an owner. Much like how roses origins don't add up in the timeline I think these episodes are supposed to make garnet out to be an unreliable narrator for Steven. And that rose is a lot more of a cold person than we are lead to believe.

      I think everything she said was red herrings, a clue given to mislead someone to a whole other theory like that Rose really did shatter Pink Diamond. Garnet is honestly the opposite of Ronaldo, instead dropping real clues that create mind boggling theories; she create doubt. We all know that Pink was shattered but Steven questioning that well makes us question rather it's true or not.

    • @TheNinToaster

      A far more interesting thought of mine comes from another episode, where Garnet begins to do things out of order and mess with future vision. I think she's saying what she thinks is best, trying to mend a timeline that Steven has wrecked so hard.

Pearl always looks like she's about to burst at the seams whenever it comes up. Especially after Steven turned himself in for the crime.

    I took the pearl line to be more of a declaration than a comment about her status. As in, she was owned at one point, but defecting was her rebellious act of choice and therefore would be known as "the pearl without an owner" during the rebellion. Honestly, I want Pearl to have been the "Mother of Pearl(s)." That just seems so right for her. Head Honcho Pearl!

    Honestly I’d love to learn more about her shield. It’s always been so weird to me that her shield could withstand the corruption song. We’ve seen how powerful all of the gems we’ve encountered so far are, and I feel like a corruption blast from THREE diamonds should dissolve the shield or something.

    • @popburnsy3207
      @popburnsy3207 6 років тому +1

      I don't think Rebecca Sugar and co. are all that concerned with relative power scale of diamonds vs other gems powers as opposed to telling a story and giving characters the ability to overcome what they need to be able to whether that be through their powers and their abilities or their capacity for caring for others

    • @RikuSilver
      @RikuSilver 6 років тому +1

      I'd agree with that, but I'm still curious :P The show has been pretty lore heavy recently, so it feels like something that needs to be wrapped up a bit when they touch more in-depth upon Rose's war arc. If they don't, it won't be the end of the world because as you say, there are more important emotional/character things going on, but it's something I've been wondering about for several seasons now.

      @littleblueclovers 6 років тому +1

      Riku Silver I thought the corruption song was both sound and light, leaning that it wasn't a physical attack. If it wasn't physical, how could a shield protect from it? It's like holding an umbrella in a rock concert. You'll still get sound and light coming through. I thought Rose might bubble herself, but even that seems pretty ineffective.

    After Last Nights episodes, ofcourse we now have the answer to who 'shattered' pd. But it now makes sense that in Pearl's hologram flashback when Rose says "we can never go home." She was most likely talking in Pd's POV, and since she created the illusion of Rose Quartz on earth, then it puts everything in place. Rose Quartz, leader of the rebellion, was made on earth.

  • @mdrivera8481

    Personal theory:
    I think there is a slight chance that Pink was flawed and volatile. Meaning she was basically a ticking time bomb that was on a path to being shattered no matter what. Her gem wasn't well so it shattered on its own and Rose was just used as a cover up by White Diamond so people wouldn't find out about a Diamond being flawed.Rose took the opportunity to be feared by the other gems of homeworld and White to use Rose as an excuse to use the diamond attack that corrupted all gems on earth. It is a crackpot theory though

    Hey Hailey, I had an interesting thought. In a later episode, we get Garnet trying to mess with her future vision, and confesses that Steven has messed with the predictability of the outcome really hard. I think what could be happening is Garnet white-lying of sorts, saying what's best for the timeline relative to the events that occurred. I wonder if this an extra protective move of her, as in that later episode she does break down about how she can't tell how the path will go down, implying she wants a predictable course of time and future such that they are guaranteed to win by all means necessary. Is that, in a sense, Garnet spreading some sort of implied propaganda to ensure that they can be safe or win the battle? Maybe this is why she has been purposefully vague, because her future vision told her Steven would possibly give up on the matter?

    • @demonheart13
      @demonheart13 6 років тому

      The Chubby Cynic - True she is overdone, but that seems to only affect her size, as she seemed mentally on par with all the other Amethysts in the kindergarten, and they also didn't seem particularly pro homeworld, willing to carelessly betray a higher up. I think, like our Amethyst, they also never saw homeworld, they were taken from earth straight to the kindergarden where they were almost bubbled like the Rose gems, but saved by blue diamond. If their allegiance was built into them, then they would be either super annoyed to be doing menial labor of babysitting organic life, which they sem happy to do, or they wouldn't have helped the gems at all. I mean the crystal gems shattered their "leader" and cost them their jobs as real soldiers, Eyeballs reaction would be completely understandable if (s)he were in their place.
      So they also don't have real allegiance to homeworld, (possibly to blue diamond), they were probably just as confused as Amethyst when she first joined the gems and they are (mostly) properly created gems.

    You're looking at the idea of how they see "home" as "Home World" off. I presume you are an American right? Or at the very least, from the former British Empire? In 1775, Britain was called "Mother England." Several Founding Fathers got the chance, before the Revolution, to go there and study prior to rebelling. Even during the British Empire, it was a big deal if an Indian, Nigerian, Jamaican, or Canadian got a chance to visit England for whatever reason. It was literally the "Mother" country. Earth is awesome, but their rebellion meant they could never go to the "Home" of Gems. It meant Gems on Earth would be separated from all other Gems. Imagine if American, after winning the Revolution, could never venture to Britain and would lose all contact with them. It was them not just formally severing ties with gems, but literal ties.

    I really keep hearing this same thing, and I think people are taking the line "A pearl that belonged to no one" a bit too literally. I think what was done here, was, as time was short to summarize the whole rebellion, and we definitely are not going to hear Pearl's story second hand from Garnet...Her title was chopped into a simple blurb to symbolize Pearl and her spot in the rebellion; she is a Pearl, but she decided to belong to no one. Further, let's remember what was said about Bismuth just seconds prior; she was a Bismuth who crafted weapons for rebels instead of Towers for Tyrants....She did not start out that way either, but that was her place, her story, in the rebellion. I think people are misinterpreting this line about Pearl and blowing it a little out of proportion....We know she belonged to some one at some point, but she forged that spot for herself as ownerless when she rebelled, and she never looked back. Bismuth basically joked around with her on this exact line back in the Bismuth special. I definitely do not feel lied to about Pearl in this regard...

    It’s not a joke! It’s foreshadowing. It turns out that Rose was Pink Diamond. Pink just shape shifted into Rose. So technically, Rose isn’t real.

    Sugar has said before that Revolutionary Girl Utena was inspirational in the creation of Steven Universe. Utena highly allegorical, and over the course of the series a lot of really distinct visual cues are established as symbols. One of the most prevalent visual cues used throughout Utena is a silhouetted style of animation that is strikingly close to the one used in these flashbacks. In Utena these scenes represent a version of the truth that is idealized to the point of being warped beyond recognition. One of the biggest underlying themes in Utena is that reality almost never lives up to the legends it inspires, but also that these false realities we construct hold us back. Maybe Steven Universe is mirroring this theme. If so, I think we're in for a lot more reveals about Rose Quartz.

    Take it all with a grain of salt, plus it is a cartoon in the end.
    Garnet most likely told it as best she knew. Rose kept many secrets, like about bubbling Bismuth as one heavy example; what exactly became of Pink Diamond would be a second. The stuff about Earth setting gems free: figurative inspiration.

    The question of how long Amethyst was cooking is up in the air now as well,
    On another note the Famethyst being the way they are is most likely a result of them having been around Rose for however many years.

    I wonder if what we learned in the episode was two-thirds of a whole story. The Crystal Gems version and the Homeworlds version. There could still be another view to this story from Rose's/Steven's own perspective. We get the view of two groups looking in but not a version from someone looking out. I still like to believe that Pink started to feel about the Earth like Rose did and somehow worked against the other 3 Diamonds to save the Earth.

  • @Jowyerv

    for Pearl, I clearly remember she told Steven in the episode "Gemcation"
    "back in the days, when i was still serving.... erm... in homeworld..."
    plus the whole timeline seems doubtful.
    how did Garnet know about Rose's past?
    didn't that ruby and sapphire still served Blue and Yellow Diamond that time?
    and why Rose went to home world and attempted to attack blue diamond's colony, and caused Ruby and Sapphire fused?
    For me, I think Pearl served white diamond, and for some reason she had assigned to served Pink Diamond instead (maybe Pink begged White Diamond like how she begged Yellow to have her own Pearl, but she specifically want the Pearl that we knew).
    I think this would make more sense that this is how Pearl and Rose met.
    And Pink Diamond on the other hand, I think she had already been shattered, but she is still alive, but she can't reform, due to her gem had shattered, left over her mind like a spirits, because this might be Pink's ability.
    look, Rose is just a Quartz but she can do a lot things like healing, recovery, floating and resurrection...
    Pink is her own Diamond, I believe Pink can do even more of this kinda stuffs than Rose.

    My 'minitheory' to explain that 'our home' thing away is that all gems, no matter where they are created, view homeworld as their home simply because 'that is how it is' there are several real life comparisons. Home is not where they were born, its where they see themselves as being the closest too. Gems are told that homeworld is the center of gem-kind, the center of gem-culture, etc.

    I am pretty sure the statement "a pearl who belongs to no one" was talking about her state in the crystal gems and not before it since it was immediately followed with "and a fusion made for love"
    It seemed more like a sound off of warriors and what now makes them unique, rather than their dull past.
    If it was talking about their past before they got drove to the crystal gems, it would have said a simple ruby soldier and a sapphire ruled by blue diamond

    I don't see why Garnet would lie about it, they better not be trying to turn her into a bad gal. Also, wasn't Garnet there with Rose way back then? What I'm thinking is that maybe the portion where the art style changed is the parts she may have been TOLD, but then the one scene with the laser was what she knows actually happened? Idk I really didn't think much about this until this video.

    • @baraxor
      @baraxor 6 років тому +8

      Platinum Warpstar We don't know when Pink Diamond was shattered. We only know the year that Sapphire and Ruby first fused as Garnet, and presumably joined Rose and Pearl not long after. There are reasons to believe this was fairly early in the rebellion, but it's by no means confirmed.

    • @GordieKat
      @GordieKat 6 років тому +2

      baraxor It was probably halfwayish through the war that Garnet joined in my opinion. Things had gotten bad enough that Blue was involved at that point. I would guess the shattering happened at the end and was an act of desperation by a losing Rose.

    • @triffin77
      @triffin77 6 років тому +14

      Garnet didn't lie. This was just what Rose told her. But Rose had her secrets after all. Rose told Garnet and the gang that Bismuth was lost in the battle against Homeworld. I think the only one with any real answers about the shattering is Pearl.

    • @wafflefrogs
      @wafflefrogs 6 років тому +8

      Platinum Warpstar I think it’s more so that she doesn’t know the whole truth. She probably only knows what she’s been told or made to believe. I’m not sure how they would have gotten around her future vision (maybe the shattering was in one of those pools of improbability where her future vision was null and void) but it’s obvious someone isn’t telling the truth if Garnet thinks Rose shattered Pink with her sword.

    As far as Homeworld gems go, home isn't where you're made; It's where you belong. I'm sure that Rose only referred to it as home because it was early in the rebellion and she was speaking to Pearl who may actually be from Homeworld.

    I do not know why there are a lot of people calling Rose (Pink) the villain of the story? If it were not for her the Earth would have been colonized and humanity destroyed. She lied is true but she always fought for the right reasons, never broke other gems and it was she who helped Ruby and Sapphire. Her mistake was not to predict that the Diamonds would retaliate like that.

    we've known since season 2 that Rose was an Earth Gem. In when it rains, Peridot says to Steven: "You're some kind of quartz right? You must have been made here." (They are in the prime Kindergarten at the time.) As far as we know, all Qartz are Earth born Gems.
