The return of Invincible season 2 was met with a lot of claims that the series had a downfall thanks to the midseason break. But now that the weekend's past, it's time we ask the question...is it true? Did this break kill the hype around Invincible?

Bro if the season was at least 16 episodes a break makes sense but 8 episodes? There should not be a summer break worth of time between episodes.
at that point it might as well be 2 separate seasons
Even when anime do multi-part seasons each part is treated as if its separate seasons 6 mouths apart, and those have 12 episodes each

Ignoring everything said above me, I do feel the smarter decision would have been to release the whole season weekly once all episodes were complete.
Yeah and we know for a fact all the episodes were complete. So I’m pretty sure it was executives higher up that held back the season. Guess what we have now that we didn’t when the first half dropped. Ads

season 2 is mostly setup for the invincible war, they could split up season 3 the same way and people would talk about it way more because this season is mostly all setup
Not gonna lie, Amazon putting on ads, especially on their own original series, has been a pretty big turn off.
I still really love the show, however yeah those ads can sorta get in the way, but I only take issues with the ads when they get in the way of an impactful scene

I really wonder why Amazon didn't just wait for the production to complete to air it in March 2024 instead of doing this abrupt split mid-way through the season.

@@J_Lee712 comics don't cost as much as TV to produce though. The scheduling is far more important, and growing the fanbase is too. Far more money on the line and Amazon seems to have fumbled it.

I don't think the hype for Invincible has died down: if anything the fact that so many people are talking about it is proof otherwise.
Plus the newest episode was great, and as long as they keep coming out with the same quality, people will watch.

@@tevenpowell8023some people, yes. Some people are just interested in being "part of the conversation," not that this doesn't have actual fans, mind you. This is true of everything, and it's always been this way that a certain segment of the population only watch something because of the hype other people put around it.
I literally forgot about alot of things that happened in Part 1 and the details of it, also when Season 2 Part 1 was releasing weekly, I was EXTREMELY hyped for the entire week for the next episode, now I just don't really care anymore. The 4 MONTH BREAK between 4 EPISODE PARTS really killed the hype for the majority of people, including me.
This normally applies but not in situations like this. The audience it had before has died down a noticeable amount, because no one is waiting that long. The amount animated shows that have stolen the spotlight are numerous, making it feel stale.
That break was rieiculous, but it's STILL one of the best shows on Prime. I hope that it doesn't pull its punches and that people catch up because Invincible absolutely still deserves it. I hope Amazon doesn't cancel this gem because of their own braindead stupidity because people are gonna love where this story goes, and it only gets more wild and unexpected from here. Frankly, as good as season 1 was, that was basically the prologue, and people who haven't read the comic have no idea where it's gonna go. This show deserves to finish its story more than most of the shows on Amazon, and I hope audiences give it that chance.

The thing is, this break could've worked a little bit if they gave us a release date.
When stranger things s4 was coming out, people were aware that it was going to be split into 2 parts and we even had a release date for the 2nd part being next month, which is what made the cliffhanger at the end of part 1 work. Heck, even in Spiderman atsv the cliffhanger at the end worked since we all had a release date we could count on so we were all like "alr next year lets go." And even if that film doesnt have a release date right now, we at least know why they need the time.
These episodes were finished, we had no release date when the break happened they just made us wait a whole season until they could finally release one of the 4 already finished episodes.

It doesn't matter if the episodes are 50 mins long, the decisions were idiotic and no one can actually make valid argument.
The show ended in December but just started back is dumb asf. This second half of the show better be good.

@@LesRequiem957 3 months and a half is idiotic for 4 episodes. If season 2 had 8 or more episodes left then I could probably understand, but 4 no way in hell. The quality isn't even much different nor are the episodes long enough for us that waited over 3 months for it.
The show should've start back running in January, but Amazon made an dumb decision, and their fan base with low IQ, is going to defend them.
@@antoniobrown247 I mean. To be fair, (not in your inpatient perspective) each episode is almost an hour. Not your usual 30 mins like other animations. Maybe perhaps it was decided as if it were a 20 episode season. Maybe perhaps the other alternative was to wait 2 weeks every episode instead of 1 week in order for it not to end too quickly and then have the next season release not feel too long?
But hey, what do I know? Or you for that matter? We're just two peeps going back and forth about a TV show's questionable release with no real input on the matter. Perhaps whining a little more will nudge it in your favor? Eh, I say go for it. I personally wouldn't.

Not gonna lie, I do agree that the hype had died because of Amazon’s decision to split it into two parts. I honestly completely forgot about Invincible. And now that it’s back, I really don’t care but I also do care at the same time. It’s kind of weird.

I think having a season split into two parts is understandable, but like.... it does make me feel cynical that it is a problem with modern streaming. It's so rare for series these days to feel complete and modern production studios LOVEEE having us invest into shows that are sometimes shorter for the sake of budget and short-term gains.

They did kill the hype. A lot of fans only found out it came out after clout chasers started copying other posts until news spread around that the second half was out. Haven't seen any posts actually talking about the second half's story get popular, just people scratching their heads wondering why they did this release schedule

All it takes is someone complaining about something recognizable for someone to click on it generally speaking.
There’s still hype for season 2 but not even close to what season 1 was. I only see people talking about season 2 in the “Invincible circle” whereas with season 1 it seemed like everyone was talking about.
Show is peak, but this had no reason to return in March. January 14th, 2 months earlier should’ve been the time. Hope Season 3 isn’t handled this way.
I think people are way overreacting about the hype being gone because they are literally posting about it and watching it. There is a broader issue of companies putting in the work to market their entertainment anymore. Across the board I’ve noticed more and more companies relying almost exclusively on fan labor to push their content than actually going to the trouble to market it. That works for some shows that already have massive fan bases but you can’t rely solely on fan labor without viewership taking a drop. I really hope the backlash over the season gap prevents Amazon from pulling this bullshit with season 3 and that we get to have the 7-8 seasons that Robert Kirkman envisioned.

But what they’re saying is true? The show definitely took a hit in popularity and engagement; in the previous season, there wouldn’t be a day where you didn’t know an episode dropped, and that has changed.

It’s kinda weird having literally everyone talk about how “no one’s talking about Invincible” among how everyone is going that “show is back and peak once more”
If I had to give a fair assessment I will agree with a portion of what’s been mentioned, yes Amazon really did effectively kill the hype that Invincible had as it was awkwardly left off on a cliffhanger that really wasn’t a cliffhanger, only to return with a brutal episode that the fifth episode had like it’s honestly unfair and unfortunate to the show.
I think if it did go on a 16 episode season it would be more effective, of course it would take longer to get in season wise but in the long run if this happened again 8 episodes would still keep it fresh and the hype would be there, but Amazon wouldn’t pay for more episodes so sadly we get what we get and have to ultimately hype ourselves up again just to get it going again.
It sucks cause the episodes are really good unfortunately the wait made tons of people not care for it. It’s what happened with stone ocean with Jojo
While I do think they made some bad decisions, people are definitely overreacting and hating, if we’re being honest here, just to hate. Although the release schedule did kill the hype a little, I think what also killed its hype is people’s overreactions and being way too upset about the break. Instead of posting a tick-tock complaining again about the release schedule, they should make shorts about the episode that did come out. But as usual, people value drama more than actually fucking enjoying a good show many people worked hard on.

With this release schedule in mind, assuming the pacing keeps up this way we get like 8-9 seasons. 3 years per season and a 4 month hiatus halfway through, well be lucky to finish the show in the next 25 years lol. Just read the comic, its pretty good.
I felt this way with Steven Universe, but I also think people definitely are catastrophizing. They need to calm down, and stop spreading negativity because it only hurts the show 😒

I think the break was kind of annoying, but claiming the break killed all hype for the show is an overstatement. Yes, it’s frustrating but the quality of this series has never dropped. It only gets better and true fans will stick by it til the end. This was actually a really good episode and we should focus on the quality of it instead of disregarding it because of a crappy release schedule.
During the break, I read the comics and spinoff. We are just getting to the best part and they did this.

The marketing is awful I thought it would only be a month long break but it turns into 3 and I found out about season 2 part 2 for a twitch clip of one of the characters dying and it sucked basically all the good stuff got spoiled to me also learned about the release times for this video so now I know not to touch my phone when I wake up on Thursday I don’t think the show killed the hype as much as people are saying but i definitely want to know why it got cut in half (mostly likely the strike)

my friend group and I hate waiting weeks between episodes so every new show we get into, we show our interest, wait for the show/season to finish airing, then binge it in a super fun night with the boys. Though we waited a good while for season 2 to finish, when we eventually binged all of season 2 the very day the last episode was aired, we enjoyed the hell out of it. I get that the majority of audiences don't do the same but because we did- we had a great time, and it was a great season! So to hear that hype has died for a majority of the audience (if that's even true) I feel lucky enough to be able to look away from negativity like this because i'm still super hooked and excited for the future of the show, as someone who has not read the comics.

I understand the frustration. However, I was also among the generation that had to endure a 3-4 year wait for Attack on Titan season 2, Across the Spider-verse (waiting now for BTSV), approx. 9 years for Bleach TYBW, GTA VI (announcement), Berserk manga hiatus breaks, and things that I know will likely never come to be yet wait patiently to be continued like Spectacular Spider-Man & Legacy of Kain. Waiting like 3 1/2 months for an Invincible continuation was literally a spec in my eyes and just made me realize how modern day viewers WOULD NOT survive the long wait my generation to endure even more so with the things I didn't even list.

I’m the first to defend this show and the animators, I was getting into arguments fighting for the crew of this show. BUT HOLY FUCK the wait was so fucking painful just delay it until all 8 eps are ready to ship out in the future

I felt this way for a while with all of these Netflix shows. They come out with a banger of a first season and then go on hiatus for a year. By the time they come back I barely remember what the plot was and don't feel like rewatching the first season again so I might not even watch it

Personally I think it's the lack of marketing. C'mon I only watch superhero and cartoon UA-camrs I should been seeing ads since February but I didn't know it was back til I saw the collab on Fortnite.
They never promoted the return I had no idea it dropped till I saw review video on tube and they never even said day and time. Is it Thursday nights or just Thursday morning.
Glad im not the only one who feels this way. I knew they came back from mid season break but i was in no rush to watch it.
I literally forgot about the show my wife had to remind me the new episode aired and I introduced her to the show and comic … and the only reason she knew it was back was her boss made mention of it on a zoom call
I think the biggest problem was that a lot of this season, while still being amazing, was really just a lot more setup for things to come in later seasons. We waited 3 years to see what would happen with the viltrumites and Omni man and while what we got of those was fantastic it just didn’t feel like a major focus of the season thus making the wait time feel more annoying
Shit took so long to drop I finished the comic because I was tired of waiting and was genuinely intrigued about the invincible universe and usually I just wait I don't read but this is a 1 time exception.
I think Invincible fans are in contention for being one of the most toxic out there.

I just started watching invincible last week and finished it today, I’m wondering in their is a part 3
I didn’t know the season returned until I got a video suggestion for a review of episode 8.
The break between the season feels like they were making sure to fix scheduling issues after what happened with season 1 into 2. They needed time to make sure that the next season would air at a fixed time window, as to not kill viewership even more. They also probably wanted to make sure the creative department weren't overworked to meet demanding deadlines, so ultimately they took a mid season break to finalise everything and get seasons out quicker. That and probably dealing with Amazon jargon.
If my friends were not talking about it I would have totally missed the part 2 release. Mid Season breaks kinda worked out for me with The Walking Dead when I used to follow it but I think when it is only 4 episodes per chunk instead of 8 as with TWD it is pretty rough.
To make it worse, the animation is ass and they still took almost three years to animate 8 episodes. There are literally times where the character is just moving across the screen like it was in a PowerPoint presentation.

I was very annoyed with the release schedule and marketing to the point where I waited like three weeks to pick it back up
i sort of forgot this show had a part 2 season 2.
i forget the marketing that i saw that reminded me.
i might've seen a banner ad on prime or something that reminded me or one thumbnail from a youtuber that was saying something.
but i don't know what i really think of all this.
I literally had no idea the show had returned and only found out cos I randomly saw a youtuber reacting to the new ep
I feel like those with short interest spans would be better off reading the comics if they really hate waiting that much.

i want more invincible. its a great show. a lot happens in just one episode. but the human interactions need a bit more work. they feel too bland. for god's safe there's hardly any hugs or contact. i hope we do get more episodes this year. we don't have a lot of good animated shows going on like invincible
Ah yes, the US centric perspective. Ratings show Invincible is most popular in Europe and Japan, regions that are 8-16 hours away by timezone from the US. Amazon is an international company, so why wouldn't they base the schedule around the highest viewer base?
