So there's Tucker acting again, with his eyes closed at the start of the video. Looking like a lazy horse. He is the best! Hug him for me please. Peace and Blessings to all 🌻🐎

I work with school horses that have grown indifferent to the (incorrect) student aids, and are now labeled as "lazy". Transitions are my favourite thing to do, together with rewarding them with suppleness once they listen to the aid - now, from the moment I get on the saddle, they automatically want to go forward! A nice exercise is to do a transition for a few steps in the middle of a vertical change (from canter to a few steps of trot or from trot to a few steps of walk). They get so excited sometimes it is even difficult to hold them haha

Another thing I have learnt for "lazy" or "dull" horses is how it is better and somehow nicer to rather give a very clear cue once instead of keeping to ask for something at a medium or high pressure level. So if you did everything explained in the video and try again and again but you just end up in a "tug of war " it could help.
This just means to ask the horse nicely with the least pressure once, twice and maybe a third time (like in the video) but instead of just keeping this third level up for a while you find something very clear to say what you mean. For example: you are on the ground and want the horse to back up. First you make yourself tall and shift your weight, then you raise your hands and then you slightly move a crop or what you have in their direction. If they don't react you do not want to keep wagging the crop towards them and get frustrated and just teaching them that nothing happens if they don't react. Instead after asking 2-3 times I would take my entire energy and just go from like 10% before to maybe 80 % of energy, make one big movement with my arms and maybe some noise with the crop. Now this part is tricky and I only recommend it under two condotions: 1. You know your horse anf you are sure to know how far you can go without scaring them
    2. You know yourself and you don't get frustrated or angry in this Situations
I know this got kinda long but it has really helped me when working with a very "dull" horse where nothing semmed to work. Once I got his attention he was like "oh okay, you were talking to me" and the next time he reacted at level two. It is the same while riding I rather use a crop clearly once (without hurting the horse of course) than kicking and kicking and building up the pressure tolerance step by step until even actually using a crop or ur legs won't work either.
(Before u all come after me I know this is a tricky thing and you have to be able to be fair and not hurt or scare the horse, but then it can work wonders)

Can you give me advices on lazy lesson pony?
He is very slow and he slows down especially on the short sides of the arena 😢😢.
He doesn't respond to a light pressure with the whip either😢

It's so hard with lesson horses. I have a similar problem with trying to get a faster walk out of the school horse I ride. It's not like I can just show up at the barn whenever I want and do ground work with her. And with other beginner riders it's hard for horses not to fall back into being lazy.
In truth it's better for a school horse to be "lazy" then a rider to fall, but it's frustrating because I don't know whether she's ignoring my aids or I'm doing something wrong.

@@imzadi83fanvids7 yes, and my trainer says that I should put more leg in rising trot but I can't do it because it is too bouncy 😢 and then my trainer says that I should use the whip but the horse doesn't respond to it

@@martas1412 I know what you mean. I don't have enough control over my lower leg to use it separately from my upper leg. Let alone have proper timing down. It's so much to remember to do at once, by the time I think of it I've already missed the timing or taking so long it's confused the horse.
The trainer I have now is good but at some point it's just doing it over and over until you get it right, which is hard since I can only go twice a month.
At least my trainer will run behind the horse and try to get her to trot if I'm struggling, or put me on a lunge if I want. But I've been to other trainers who'll watch you struggle and exhaust yourself and the only help you get it being yelled at to "kick harder". Even if I wanted to kick harder, which I don't, I don't have enough strength or control in my legs to do so.
I read the book "Enlightened Equitation" and it has been really helpful. But again, it's just time in the saddle at some point which a lot of instructors/riders take for granted because they have access to a horse whenever they want which a lot of us sadly don't.

@@imzadi83fanvids7I’m in the same boat at my riding school. I’m riding a super lazy beginner lesson horse that I have to make move through the whoooooole lesson. As soon as I stop he slows down. My trainer keeps telling me to keep doing it and don’t stop because if I stop nagging my horse slows down. It’s frustrating. 😢

Thank you for this video😊 i have a question. I m very small and my legs touch very little of the horse. My legs are pratically on the pad and with lazy horses it’s very complicated. I m Also very skinny and when i squize the entire leg (without talon), the horse clearly doesn’t care🤣🤣Do you have an advice? I know i have no strenght at all. Do you think an other sport can help? (To have legs a little bit more efficients? )
Sorry for the mistakes, my correcor is in french.
Thank you for all your videos ❤

What do I do if I am riding the school horde thats super lazy? I’m just one of the 50 students who ride him so I can’t work with him. My trainer keeps telling me to make the horse move with my calves THE WHOLE TIME. It’s very tiring but as soon as I stop the horse slows down. Is there a fix for this? I’m guessing not but thought I’d ask.

  • @thedum9642

I've been riding for a few months. I've seen this video and tried just squeezing and applying pressure to make the horse move, but the horses in my school don't respond to that at all, and they only move from light and multiple kicks as well as using the whip. This is a bad habit, but it's because all of my instructors have told me to kick and use the whip as much as possible. I'm not sure what to do because they're pretty strict and they don't take no for an answer. The only way I can get the horses to move is kicking hard and using the Whip. I know it's not just me, because I've seen multiple students having to kick the horse a lot for them to move. However, the problem is that the horses don't listen to most students, and they magically listen to instructors and other very advance students, and they are barely even squeezing. Is it my problem and if two, how can I fix it?
