FROM unravels the mystery of a nightmarish town that traps all those who enter. As the unwilling residents fight to keep a sense of normalcy and search for a way out, they must also survive the threats of the surrounding forest - including the terrifying creatures that come out when the sun goes down. One thing that I feel was never brought up again was in episode 1 of season 1 I believe, when Julie noticed that one of the people monsters was someone she apparently knew from the outside world. After this occurrence I don’t recall anyone else physically seeing someone that they know as a monster
I don't think Julie knew that young man (a nightmare creature) at all. Remember, the nightmare creatures know everyone's name in "FROM," and apparently like to play tricks on the people stuck in the town.
Season 1, Episode 1: "Long Day's Journey Into Night" When the Old lady (Grandma, nightmare creature) came to Meagan's bedroom window, she initially, tapped on her window and said:
Grandma: Meagan? It's Grandma, Come to the window.
I thought she said she didn't know that boy monster? I think she was stun it knew her name. Even the little girl Megan knew that wasn't her grandma but still let her in. Remember?
The very first scene of the whole show, a monster pretended to be the grandma of the little girl in the window. They are shapeshifters. They can take on anyone’s identity.
@candi.14 Yeah but like most “twists” in the show the writers seem to forget about it and never mention it again. Very inconsistent.
They started off as shapeshifters, but by the end of season 1 it’s just same old smileys every time

Why doesn't anyone communicate with each other?! Like how Tabatha saw all that crazy stuff in the caves but doesn't even bring it up to ANYONE. Then she just nonchalantly brings it up to Jade almost like she had forgotten all about it.
It's infuriating. Everyone has so much good information to give each other.
I think it’s great writing tbh it builds suspense little tiny clue which each scene truely great writing

I think its like Stephen Kings "it". The environment could cause people to do this. Though the monsters are not as strong in mind control as "the dead lights " but they seem to have some persuasive abilities.
I totally agree! Keep wishing they would hold town meetings everyday to discuss everyone's experiences and insights. But I guess people have figured out that stuff gets worse when they press trying to figure it out
This shows that the monsters can move extremely fast in their true form- there's no monsters around when the van full of Colony House survivors pull up to the post office but then, suddenly, one is there to slash Father Kathri's throat.
@@jasoncaldwell5627 yes. In their true form you can see Grandma instantly fly in the window and kill the girl and mom. Also we see how fast they kill dad in the box.
@@AfriqueNY Yeah- so walking slow and abiding by the Talismans is just part of some game- wherein they know the rules, but the humans don't!
We also don't know why or where the monsters go in the forest at night. We've seen the monsters walking through the forest for no apparent reason (when Boyd found the Talismans and again when Boyd left the dungeon. They were already out there- not looking for humans.

Those paintings of old colonial people in Ellis's room were likely already there when Boyd and family showed up in the town. Colony House appears to be a mixture of French chateau and colonial architecture from the 16th century.
The thing that infuriates me the most about the Colony House debacle besides that fact that Kevin was an idiot is that NO ONE considered HOW the monsters got in. If the talisman in Colony House worked and kept everyone safe up until that point, then something must have changed. Absolutely no one seemed to consider that the monsters had to have been invited in despite the fact that this is known to the characters. Megan and Lauren had a talisman but dumb Megan let the monster in. Yet no one paused to consider someone conspired to let a monster inside. They all acted as if the talisman was just rendered useless. The talisman and it's ability did not change, someone in the house decided to breach protocol and no one brings this topic up. Insanity.

If yall remember Victor was digging making graves plots. He knew the monsters was going to get in the house eventually. People need to listen to him more. And stop disregarded him because he appears to have the mind of a child. He has survived all these years.
People be sleeping on Victor yea he's creepy and weird and childlike but he survived all those years. Victor knows things for real.

I think I caught a plothole, because when Fatima and Ellis trapped themselves in the corridor with the talisman it showed that the monsters couldnt get in any enclosed area with the talisman, but when the monsters killed trudy they closed the door behind her to trap her, which means the rest of the house became an enclosed area
So true, actually I think even kevin’s room was closed as well, when he was attacked

Part of my theory is that people are being “pulled in” to the town by someone or something- I’m not saying this is the main story, but a part of it. Lately, on rewatch, I’ve been wondering if Victor is unconsciously responsible for some of what goes on. Maybe he is pulling certain people in to help, unknowingly. It seems that he was left there as the only survivor of some tragedy, and maybe he’s pulling people in. He’s been there the longest, I think.
Or, maybe he’s just like the others and this all began long ago. Some of the people are like Victor, some are not, I think he’s someone who’s more receptive to what’s going on.

Honestly I think the reason Victor's entire family was there and they were comfortable enough to take photos is because that town actually, LITERALLY is Victor's actual home! Thats what all evidence is leading to.

It makes sense...bc the monsters don't have clothing from different eras...it's all what would've been worn when Victor was a kid. The housing & furniture is all of the same era etc. 🎯🤔

The best episode. I agree with your take on the picture. I also found it odd why they would be taking normal pictures. I believe Victor existed in the town before all the monsters and stuff appeared.
Interesting breakdown. You're on par with From Land when it comes to insightful analyses.
So, does the string theory comment tie into the 'strings' Jasmine is attached to that are pulled by some unknown entity? One could fold that concept into your boogeyman hypothesis: either the monsters used to be human and he turned them or he willed them into existence somehow as his first offensive line to make the denizens fear him and thereby believe in him.
The next step would consist in infiltrating their dreams and having their nightmares leave an impact that can be felt/observed in a waking state (worms, cicadas). That's probably why the worms manage to take out Smiley when Boyd transfers them to him. Boogeyman is in full control of the environment and gets to change or bend the rules on a whim so the magic bullets don't yield any results at all.
I wonder whether The Boy in White is a semblance of his conscience taking shape and subtly opposing him because he only nudges people in the right direction until they're in the right place for, shall we say, drastic intervention, i.e. pushing Tabitha through the Lighthouse window. The color white not so surprisingly represents his innocent side and it's at its strongest in/around the Lighthouse that usually symbolizes strength, safety, individuality, mystery and existentialism; safety from the Jungian Shadow at play or rather fully manifested within the Boogeyman and Fromville that seems to be his mindscape, individuality because he may be nothing but a force of nature longing to share in the human experience (or deem being accepted as one of the denizens a viable loophole to escape this pocket dimension), mystery due to the town's entire set-up that may be in constant flux in terms of its nature / quantum state (so it could be purgatory temporarily, shifting into a pocket dimension etc.), existentialism as it emphasizes the existence of the individual as a free agent determining their own development through acts of the will (Tabitha and Jade's willingness to engage with the symbols and explore Fromville's edges, Sara's willingness to kill, Victor's arrested development bringing about restricted agency).
Edit: I've looked into some Chaos gods because you used the term in your video title.
There's the Greek Khaos who is the very first entity in existence who is followed by the two primordial gods Erebus (darkness) and Nyx (night) amongst others.
Also, Eris the God of Chaos was known among the other Greek gods for her short temper, moodiness and bloodlust. She loved carnage and chilling with her brother, God of War, Ares. Regarding Ares, the Civil War soldier comes to mind.
Great recap. This episode had do many details I didn't notice.
It's a pretty big weak point, having so many people under one roof. There are multiple episodes where even the main characters freak out and lunge for the door, having to be physically restrained at the last-minute. And even though the series focuses on a handful of people, there are always SO MANY others wandering around in the background. All they needed was that one Goofy guy thinking with his dick, and the plug in the bathtub is pulled (not the kind of pull Kevin was hoping for, no doubt).
As for Jasmine, it's interesting that she says it wasn't her choice to be this way. At first I thought perhaps the monsters are re-animated corpses (sort of... harvested from a graveyard?), but one of them is dressed as a milkman, and another as a nurse - no one would want to be buried in their work-clothes.
But another point of interest - the monsters all seem to be dressed in clothes from the same era ('50s or '60s) which matches the architecture of the town. It almost seems as if something came into the town, turned all the inhabitants into these monsters, and then just yoinked people in over the years.
I wonder - when the voices say they were watching the priest burying his bag - are the crows the ones doing the watching?
Also, since spiders seem to play a part in the tale - does anyone else think the monsters look a bit like spider-people (in their "true" form)?
Yes, i think it needs a quota. if you count up the ppl who died in season 1 and the amount of ppl who arrive in season two on the bus is the same. If i remember right, its 25 ppl

You know what the townsfolk need?
A town meeting where they do a larger version of the writing on the wall at the Matthews house.
They need to make a sorta town ledger to chronicle all the facts they learn- so even if they don't survive, the people that come after have a better chance.
Or... maybe there already is one among the stuff in the Diner's back room.
Regarding the Talismans, I think the people at the time of Victor's mom and Chris had them and they were returned to that cave/shrine when the town reset. That's why they seemed at ease enough to snap a Polaroid.
Remember, when the series starts, they had gone three months with no monster deaths.
They had their shit together and only carelessness broke their streak....

There's a real aura of predestination in town- the town maintains a set number of residents- in season one, we lose a bunch of people and at the start of season two, we get 25 new people. Several of the bus people killed and the remaining number is the exact needed to replace those lost in season one.
But that means whatever powers that be already knew who would die.
That lends credence to the simulation theory.
If it's all a sim, it would also explain why we see "NPC" type characters with no lines always walking to a fro in town. They get no lines and seem a generic racial mix.
It's suspicious.

Someone must be keeping track of days and months, because how do they know Fatima's been there for a whole year. There is a calendar in Donna's room that it from March 1972, but that can't be the one they are using.
Why don't they put the talismans at the threshold of the monster caves so they can't come out?
That's why they need the whole town writing on the wall! But my only concern is aren't the talismans a finite resource? I guess they could get most of them and hang them at the cave thresholds, and the rest could be used in just a few of the buildings where the people just get together for a few nights to see what happens, but they're still protected by the talusmens. You could even build some structures out by the caves to watch that are also protected with the talismans.

@Demon-tl3ev Idk, I don't think we have a map, but some characters know where at least some of the cave mouths are. Victor, Jade, Tabitha, at least. I guess Jim now knows that under his house is a chamber with the drawings that leads to the area they sleep in.
@@Demon-tl3evunderneath the first house that Jim’s family had. Remember, it fell on top of them when she was trying to break down the basement floor. Whoever was on the radio knew she was down there. Im sure they would know about restraining the monsters from exiting the layer. A huge storm came out of nowhere when they tried an attempt for answers. I think we are in for a ride.

The town maintains an exact number of people.
POSSIBLE SPOILERS BUT NOTHING TOO CRAZY-
It stays constant, with new people arriving when the monsters kill townsfolk. After the Colony House massacre, they also lose Father Kathri and a guy that hangs himself.
Then the bus arrives and a seven of them get killed that night- leaving the exact number of new people (16) to replace the people killed or died in season one. It's a balance.
That might still imply an experiment though.
Or a simulation.
Or a well maintained terrarium.

This was a really good episode and I’m pissed off at Kevin throw Kevin away he doesn’t need to be buried because getting a kiss from a girlwasn’t that serious. I’m pretty sure eventually he would’ve found someone who wanted to love on him who wasn’t already dead.

Kevin lets Jasmine inside the bathroom window but the monsters kill Trudy in Donna's room, in which Ellis throws something out of the window to break it before jumping off the roof. Donna's left with a big mess in her room. Broken windows and bloody carpet.

I also wonder if the intro is a clue. The intro is a masculinization of the song “whatever will be, will be: Que sera, sera” by Doris Day. A song about worrying over the future as she grows up but everyone telling her “it is what it is”
Ok…. FULLY THIS IS A JOKE I AM STATING NOW:
Michigan gets mentioned a few times. Specifically Grand RAPIDS, Michigan.
Then, when the girlfriend shows up as one of the bus people.
She says: Your mom and I have looked everywhere for you. Yet, you were only a couple hours away.
As a generational Michigander (about 180 years of my ancestors living in Michigan). Civil war veterans too. Which I noticed that one scene had a Union Solider run through it.
We have a “spot” about two plus hours north of Grand Rapids. Just over the bridge.
It is called: The Magic Spot. A great tourist trap.
It is where supposedly everything is upside down, alternate energy, etc.
So, my first thought was…. lol… oh, they are in Michigan living across the bridge in the forest there.
Just a joke because I doubt the writers know about our little spot in MICHIGAN.
Also, the light house. We are famous for lighthouses.
And many have been here forever it seems.
When, the scene occurred in the tent. I felt I knew what was shaking, moving the tent. We are surrounded by lakes. So water crafts are a normal part of life.
I think it was a boat or ship that in an alternative time. When water was there that. That came to close to the tent.
The sounds and movements of tent seemed like what happens when you are too close to a boat going by.
Have felt that before.
Plus, next scene was first view of lighthouse. So, sorta confirmed to me it was a boat (in water) from an alternate time too close to tent.

Spoiler alert: Dreamcatchers and Talismans are both Native American in origin. Remember Jade gets chased by a Civil War soldier, a bottle in the forest was 1864, and the underground pyramids in the forest seem Native.

I find the monsters’ clothing to be interesting. They’re dressed mid-to-late ‘60s.
There has to be something to do with the 50's or 60's time period the monsters dressed from that time period and the music boxes in the dinner all from that period of time. This also has something to do with time because of the flashes from civil war.

Jasmine and the other monsters that get into Colony House are dressed up for prom/school dance in a 1950's way.
We see this particularly when the black debutante monster and Jasmine are slowly walking down the stairs.

@@AfriqueNY Ha! Nooo...I think Fatima was right in the second episode when she told Julie they "get into your head" and that's why they cover the windows and why she told Julie not to look at the monsters.
I think, once they "get into your head" they manipulate you so you'll be open to suggestions like opening a nailed closed window. I don't think Kevin would have thought to ask to see her in her true form.
Heck, we don't even know if that IS their true form!
Maybe they're stuck in those forms because human subconscious makes them look like that and they hate humans for it.
We just don't know. Yet.
I theorise that whatever is there gets awakened and then put back to sleep every couple of decades

Kevin seems like a nerdy, emotional idiot - BUT, many people in real life, due to their own problems & emotional thinking (which is represented here on a very simplified level) fall for narcissists and other toxic people, who love bomb them, then devalue, discard, and ruin their lives, sometimes do worse, like the end result of Kevin on the show. When I first watched the episode, I was interested, I though Jasmine would try to take the whole house alone, and I thought maybe the people in the house would be able to kill her, which would be a landmark.
How are they going to take on super strong , super fast monster once she shifts into monster mode? They are only slow in human form. How would they catch one without a metal trap?

Ive been sure of a quota since we learned its been 90 days since incident (timed with the talismans] and they hadnt had new vistors in a while. Which was flimsy af lol but then this episode/the bus happened, aside from 1 bus person still missing the #'s keep adding up. Im guessing with Tabitha "gone" in s3 right off we are getting a new arrival. And where is the other bus person that is bugging the heck outta me.
