how the skidmarks look and built up in generally is somehow really satisfiying

And they keep adding, unlike AMS and RF1 where they only go so far before the older ones are erased :-(

generally is my childhood game. it was one of the only games that would run smoothly on my ancient pentium mmx 166mhz processor pc. I just checked the forums and there's still a community around it making mods and tracks in mid 2022 :)

I never actually remember playing GeneRally all that much, I just loved setting up a series of races with all-AIs, turn the numbers for things up to stupid levels and watched them make a fool out of themselves. Those were good times.

I completely agree. Gene Rally's car is simply more fun to drive, it responds better and has more subtleties in its behavior for you to worry about. Circuit Superstars replicates Generally's racing perfectly, with the issue of pitstop strategies and AI aggressiveness and such, but you don't get the same satisfying driveability.

Since the question was asked in the video, there are two active communities for GR around as far as I'm aware
    - GeneRally International Forum (forum.generally-racers.com )
    - GeneRally Polska (on Discord) (discord.gg/3pqsD9n )
Competitions, Tracks and Cars are still getting made and uploaded even after all these years and everyone is welcome!

You should try "Art of Rally" also available on Steam.
I think the handling is quite close to GeneRally

GeneRally reminds me of an old DOS game called Slicks'n'Slide. It also had that sliding physics. Loved it!

Yes, to me GeneRally was the successor to Slicks 'n Slide, and Circuit Superstars is kinda the .. well.. newer (not 'success' yet imo) version again..

Have you had the chance to try out "DRAG" in Steam Early Access?
    Pretty impressive physics modeling.
It supports wheels and soon it wull support handbrakes too.
If you like time trials/hotlaps, you will probably love it Niels.
It has a scoring system like GT licenses and even an online leaderboard.

Haha, I still play GeneRally regularly 😃 They were also developing a sequel with online multiplayer but the project died. However now there's a GeneRally inspired game called "GeneRacing" in development:
    ua-cam.com/video/lp9g0ityS5I/v-deo.html
It's still on very early alpha but if you join their Discord I'm sure they'll give you a key if you want to try it out.
GeneRally physics are awesome and I've always hoped something similar with online multiplayer would come out.

I have not played Circuit Superstars, but is it really all in the handling model that doesn't allow oversteer or is it more in the driving/controller aids that limits the steering angle for different speeds and how quick the steering is for initial turn-in and for counter-turning. Because the handling does look quite natural overall. No way to upset the car with a Scandinavian flick or even a J-turn?

    • @NielsHeusinkveld
      @NielsHeusinkveld  3 роки тому +1

Not really, feels very much like a super front engined type of car that for some reason also doesn't have lift off oversteer.. I have no idea how they did the physics, if it is even 'car like' (probably no need for it)..

    • @Aliceintraining

@@NielsHeusinkveld I think there are build in arcade assists, but there is some overstear on power, it just does not have poweroff overstear because it looks to lag the power off when you break. that being said, try out the super trucks or the the mussle cars, both are pretty good. that being said, theys till need to fix tirewear
