116 years in heaven for Martha the passenger pigeon in this year of 2020. Let's drink a toast in memory of her today. Dear heavenly Father, please keep Martha's soul and spirit in Your everlasting care through Your Son Jesus Christ our Lord and all of the rest of her species.
@@Monsterboy2341 Yes, the genome has been fully sequenced and a close living relative [band-tailed pigeon] has been found. I'm excited to see what the future holds.
The pigeon in hand is known in Queensland as Torres strait islands pigeon and is gradually increasing in number after being hunted to low numbers in the 20th century.
I hope martha you will be revived back from the dead by the future i knew life as animal is very hard but being created in the holocene year is a bad idea😞
Sadly, the loss of the Passenger Pigeon condemns us humans into taking over their ecological function at this time of rapid climate change. Our pigeon species, teamed with their falcon predator, was a superb long-distance disperser of big seeded forest trees (like oaks and hickories and beeches). Google my "Becoming Passenger Pigeon" video on youtube to learn more.
That railway car is loaded with geese, duck and pheasant--not passenger pigeons. Dispense with the anti hunting bullshit and out the blame where it belongs---habitat loss.
It's probably a mourning dove, if you think they look the same, although it's strange to have one in captivity. They have very similar coloration, except the passenger pigeon's neck feathers were iridescent and just generally brighter.
Hunting had little to do with the extinction. It was caused by habitat loss. Passenger pigeons thrived on old growth Forrest's such as Chestnut, Oak, Pine etc... which were being decimated after the Civil War due to farms replacing woodlands and the timber demands of western expansion.
I started the article "Martha (Passenger Pigeon)" on Wikipedia!
LOL!
I’ll meet you at the rainbow bridge, Martha. You, and all the other passengers. ❤️🌈
That's so sad. I only found out today that humans killed all the passenger pigeons.
💔
We're truly sorry Martha.
You came so soft and shy

My ancestors from the 1800s were stupid
Climate change is a natural phenomenon. I'd be more concerned with habitat loss due to human expansion into our forrests and rural habitat.
The pidgeon your holding is just beautiful. But the pidgeons I see here in Los Angeles are not so pretty.
They definitely did not die in vain
Awwwwwwwwwwwwww .I am in shock

Mike Shearman Oh please. Commercial hunting was chiefly responsible for the bird's extinction. That is a fact.
I have a pet passenger pigeon
Passenger pigeons went exist 100 years ago.

Are you a time traveler?

hunting was a major factor, along with habitat destruction, they were shooting them down by the millions each year.
