While I appreciate the detail of the Zverev v Ruud breakdown, one area that you didn’t cover is that Ruud is undefeated in Grand Slam semis while Zverev is 1-6. Whether it’s fitness or mental shakiness, Zverev does not show his best stuff in these big matches at the end of best of 5 tourneys. Casper does.
Great analysis as always. Thank you for this content! It drives me crazy that Zverev is missing a finishing strike to end points that he so often constructs flawlessly. I am picking Sinner over Carlos, and Ruud over Zverev for Sinner to win it all.
I feel like Alcaraz believes he’s not the favorite when put up against Sinner at this exact moment (as he said in the press conference) so I’m hoping this does allow him to play a bit more free. Either way, I’m so excited to see this match!
It’s interesting how their H2H has perfectly followed a “tiebreak” pattern. Alcaraz won the first, Sinner the next two, Alcaraz the next two, etc. While it’s just an interesting stat obviously, it could also be indicative that the underdog tends to win the match more often in this H2H. Because after losing 2 in a row, people start saying “oh , Sinner has control of this H2H,” then Alcaraz wins 2 in a row and people switch by saying “Alcaraz has control,” and it continues like that. Technically Alcaraz is due to win another here 😂
Great content. However,Carlos seems to be landing more first serves off late, and has not conceded breaks that easily. Post Wimbledon in 2023, he was getting broken very easily leading to a poor run. He is playing a more patient game as well and has cut down on unforced errors a lot since Indian wells. Carlos' lack of success up until Indian wells doesn't bother me as he currently appears to be playing at a much higher level. The only time Sinner has been in trouble at RG this year has been against Moutet in the first set and he played the kind of game that I expect Carlos to play. In fact, it's what Rafa used to do to win so many french open titles.
I really enjoyed the Zverev/De Minaur match today, it was a dramatic straight sets some pivotal match changing rallies, de minaur had a couple incredible lobs as well
Of course Sinner can win RG he’s had the easiest draw so he can capitalize. Alcaraz just has to take Jannik into deep waters and he will win. If Jannik still has a hip issue all Alcaraz has to do is exploit it. It’s as simple as that. Rafa the legend himself has always said what made him great champion on clay was his movement. If Jannik can’t move against an elite player. He can’t win.

It was so nice to see them mention you at the Zverev Match and everything you say is what im thinking pre bet. You have become my number 1 go to guy to really double check if what I think is correct. I even wanted to say everyone complained about the conditions and what could be worse then night cold low bouncing conditions begat it. Zverev when rested can beat anyone we know that. We know hes beated Alcaraz in the quarters 2 years ago Sinner last year he was hurt last year still when facing Ruud. I watched the 1st Nadal Zverev match and his movement and ground strokes were so powerful but the ball was bouncing and he was doing beautiful rallies so i really hope thats the condition Friday. its a day game i believe but my biggest 2 concerns for him are the way he was shaking out his shoulder while serving. His serving was sub par today as they noted 63% 71 71 but it was the location. Is he tired from so many serves? Naturally the location is a big indicator then the speed. Will Ruud be this power house for getting rd 16 to the semis mon to friday rest? If Zverev doesn't win it could change the landscaoe for years to come. We need a healthy Sasha to make sure great players are taken out of slams. If Ruud gets ahead then he wont look back he stays ontop and this happened in 22 where Sasha was about to be number 1 then got hurt. He open the gates to all the young guys. Would Ruud have been in the US Open Finals if Sasha was there its not a huge coincidence we saw a rise in Fritz Rune Alcaraz who was already up there and Sinner Alcaraz win the US Open Wimbledon. I know you must have thought wow all these guys in the top ten all the sudden and the departures of Nadal and Zverev. Give credit to where its due he ges back to #4 because not many people could have done that. Rest and his arm huge concerns he was hitting really badly missed forhands ones he didn't miss in his first match. I agree it's not as one sided as people might see this because he has the ability to change his tactics like when he had to play lefty Nadal, Alcaraz, the 21 Finals where he had to face the best in the world, and last years Finals he beat Alcaraz was sorta cheated in a way because his record was the same as Sinners and he was eliminated. Love the Channel glad theres a guy out there that thinks thd way i do i agree with everything you said about Sinner Vs Alcaraz. i think it comes down to will Alcaraz do his magic show or be pedestrian like he was in his last win. Alcaraz has more weapons and like they said he hasnt gone nuclear with his forehand yet in any match. In your previous video you said Alcaraz would win and gave the reasons slower courts est now its Sinner lol his press answers to the Cerundalo question was classic.
Gross outdid himself here. Excellent analysis! What amazes is that Gill possesses a really complete repertoire of analytical categories and deploys them with great details...
That said, and prescinding from the analysis, a sentimental desire is for Ruud to win the whole thing... He has been to three (?) Grand slam finals; he needs to get this monkey off his back. Otherwise, Ruud could find himself irreversibly deflated and won't be the same competitor anymore...
@gilgross - CA has changed his service motion. Basically he drops his racket right from the toss to get into the hammer position. It’s more live and direction is much better.
@@aasiftak213 they were both finished before the finals😕... I am still their fan, not a fan of Carlos or Zverev even though they are both great champions
In MC Sinner looked fried at the third set vs Tsitsipas. Do you think that he can beat Alcaraz 3:0 on a slow clay? No way! So who is the favorite in 4-5 sets?? It easy pick this time with Alcaraz. Zverev Ruud close match. Final 5 setter, unless its Ruud, cause he just loses to the best easily in finals...
Interesting, and a logical take. However, I'll go with Alcaraz. I think he'll put last year's lump behind him, he's had a good build up here, and he'll prevail this time against Sinner. He is less rushed on clay, he'll have a bit more time.

It is weird to hear your assessment on Carlos vs Janik H2H ........Sinner could have not been so superior when , at 2 years younger , Carlos has managed to get even at 4-4 and and all his victories against Janik have come at ATP 1000 events and Grand slams . Mentality ? Carlos has stopped the GOAT from taking the calendar year Grand slam coming from behind on a 5 setter in Wimbledon . Carlos , like Sinner , is barely a teenager trying to find his game and because of injuries he's had a quieter last six months .
Remember he didn't expect Alcaraz to even reach quarters. He talks about Alcaraz like some random low ranked player, everything he does, golden boy Sinner does 100 times better.

You're one of the few analysts who predicts Sinner over Alcaraz, and I couldnt agree more. The edge between these 2 is mainly the difference with their mental game. So Sinner in 4.
Regarding Alcaraz serve, Have you seen the quarter-finals against tsitsipas, because on the 1st and 2nd set alcaraz had a 88% 92% percent average, and also the mechanincs in his serving has changed (he is improving his late recoil and the way he trows the ball is a bit different), and if these is not improving his serve, I don´t know what it is.
Sinner doesn't have mental cracks, yet Alcaraz does almost better than him in slams and the head to head is 4-4. Did you see the Moutet match? If Alcaraz shows up, he will expose Sinner. Everyone can see Alcaraz's strengths and weaknesses because he's open. Sinner is more reserved, but that doesn't mean it doesn't have mental cracks.. All Sinner did for the past eight months was join the elites that were Djokovic, the GOAT, and Alcaraz. Though I love both of them. Let's enjoy both talents tomorrow.

Gill continues to impress. Two points that he made are stuck with me. Both about some things that if analysed closely do not appear what they seem on the surface. First - about Alcaraz mental strength in the slams (Gill somewhat debunked it, emphasizing the surrounding circumstances). Second - about the stats on UEs sometimes being very misleading. Both these points do not sound as some unexpected revelations ONCE THEY SPELLED OUT. But for some reason other tennis observers are rarely capable of reaching this far. Gill is capable. This is a sign of a sharp and disciplined mind.
Djokovic became mental giant when he turned around Us Open match against Federer in 2010 and he took David cup and became monster. Sinner saved match points against Djokovic and won Davis Cup. Get the point? Sinner is the one to beat at any Slam but clay...there its Zverev and Alcaraz
At january odds for Sinner winning Wimbledon were 11.6 and I said its a bargain, after he won AO it sinked at 6...a week ago it was 4, after Djokovic went to operate knee to 2.80...
I cannot agree with your prediction Gill. Only look the clay history of both and the results of both on last RG. Carlos is the clear favorite. Bets say the same. The H2H is 4-4 and Carlos always won on slow courts. Carlos win in 4 sets.

Sinner is the best player in the world while Carlos is coming off of a bad phase. All the hype is on Sinner right now. Alcaraz doesn't have much pressure on him.
Zverev lost 3 RG semis in a row. You're right, if he brings the level he had in the 1st round against Nadal, he has the better chance. I however will go against your pick again, and say Ruud has the X factor and he's the one who played the last two RG finals, and he'll find a way. (PS: I'm not confident with this pick :) )
The stats from the Zverev-de Minaur game. Winners-unforced errors. Zverev: 20-46 !!! Aces: 2. The level of de Minaur was even worse. Zverev has to play better, if he wants to beat Ruud, don't you think?
The fact that I can end my day just about every day this week with a new Gil video, is truly a gift. Thanks for your hard work this week, it has not gone unappreciated!
Wonder how much what happened to Carlos last year at RG will benefit him this year. I guess he really exorcised that particular demon at Wimbledon, however I wonder if it now actually is a positive to have some adversity that in his past which he's overcome.
I think when Alcaraz can play freely and creatively he will win. Important will also be the longer heavy top spin from Alcaraz and the first serve percentage of Sinner. Anyways will be a pleasure to watch 🎉
So, the mesmerizing player who weaves dreams and conjures magic cannot make a slam final. Neither I nor many people of my generation started playing tennis over forty years ago to end up watching ball-bashers on television. Roddick regrets having to maintain the pick he made at the start of the tournament, forcing himself to be true to his past decision and not being able to trade it for "Chuckster," his favorite player to watch (verbatim). Thus, good riddance to what so many call tennis, which turned into hard science a long ago, something without a pulse; there's nothing it shares with any kind of creative activity.
Gill's partner in Carota Boy fandom for the next ten years (as declared by Alex Gruskin) has now reluctantly acknowledged Carlos and now picks him for this SF. Why Gill continues to engage in this dismissive narrative when it comes to Carlos is baffling to me. He picked Demon to knock Carlos out in the QF of Indian Wells... Go figure. Perhaps appreciating someone who is so creative and alive is too much of a stretch for him. His analysis is missing considering human beings and not just statistics. I came back to watching tennis because of Carlos and will walk away if ball bashing is all that's available.
@@GillGross That's not the point. It's how dismissive you are when you're not picking him. Carlos' talent is not going away because you want Sinner to win.
@@brendajohnson5525he does not want sinner to win, only reason he picked deminaur was because of the injury and deminaur having wins on djocovic, alcaraz and zverev in recent time. @@turntech4776 There is nothing wrong with Carlos' mentality because he is spirited. Just because Sinner has never looked alive doesn't mean he's mentally strong, that's his dour disposition. His coach has even had to tell him to bring energy to his game. Likewise Novak who is very expressive, very often negatively, is not viewed as mentally weak. Carlos winning his first slam at 19 has had to endure much mentally while still maturing physically and he's done a magnificent job in showing us all (who want to see) what a quality player he is. I have noticed that he is better at controlling his emotions and impulses and he's said so. I have seen improvements in his serve, shot selection, etc. and it's still evolving. I hope that he keeps passion and spirit in his game. I'd rather watch him lose than Sinner win in his boring robotic fashion. Give credit to Carlos where it's due.
Thanks Gill. Hope Sinner comes through. Most commentators are going for Carlos. But Jannik is a different beast these days and always had a good match up with Carlos.
Great analysis again! Agree that the Ruud-Zverev match is hard to predict but also the Sinner-Alcaraz semi. I'd give the slight edge to Alcaraz, because in their last match he was succesful a lot with loopy topspin shots and as they will be playing at daytime, it could be a winning strategy again. And it would make the match pretty physical again, where he probably has an advantage right now and it's still Sinner's least favourite and worst surface. Let's see - really looking forward to it! :)
An underwhelming semi final from Alcaraz Sinner. Felt like Alcaraz was playing more boringly than usual, and there weren't the spectacular moments there were at the US open. I imagine Sinner is not back to peak yet, but a solid win for Carlos.
Come on Gill… are you seriously picking Sinner? Do you think Alcaraz didn’t learn anything from last year semi?😂 Alcaraz will be this year’s winner , no doubt about it because he doesn’t have any doubt
I love how Sinner is now a world beater regardless of conditions or the fact that he is coming from an injury but Alcaraz who is someone proved himself in majors again and again in his young career cant beat him in clay best of 5
Ruud is to me at least the strangest cat in ATP.. Guy is killing it at ATP 250, and killing it at RG until final.. extremely strange...from one extreme to another..back to back to back rg finalist... no grass no Wimbledon whatsoever, only golf etc.. indeed strangest cat😮😮
You are such an expert, but yet you are so wrong too often. Alcaraz is better on clay than Sinner and Sinner can not win 5 set matches that easy in the long tun either as he uses extremely amounts of power to win the first set and then has some physical issues like cramping early in the third. Sinner has a hip problem and they think this is not a concern in his team and when he wanted to retire some weeks before French Open in a match his team told him to keep playing. They are not that awesome as he think as he had to skip Rome because he had too big bip porblems already and we all see that he is super high and lean and I don't think he has what it takes to win 5 setters. He is sort of like a kid actually, he is very young and acts like a little innocent boy.
I get the impression that Jannik is not entirely happy playing -in- on clay ( *nobody* likes playing IN clay 😁), even without considering his less-than-ideal preparation for this RG (which would be understandable, he's pretty agile but... he's still a touch short of 1.90m tall). Mentally he's streets ahead of Alcaraz, who also, and I don't really care what the statistics say here, has been spraying them and making lots of unforced errors in the previous rounds... For that semifinal, I think the deciding factor will be wether Ferrero can "wake Carlitos up" (give him a good _carajillo_ or two), which version turns up. If he's 90% there, and with the home crowd feeding him back, I think Alcaraz would win that tie 7 out of 10 times. I agree with you on the other semifinal though. Sasha has a higher ceiling... but will his mind be 90% in with the job, considering his circumstances? My bet would be yes, and I'd like to see that.
It’s really tough to make a prediction without the Big 3 factoring into any of the other player’s performances. They are crushing it on their own and the excitement around them is palpable. I’m just happy to watch it all happen along with the very best tennis analysis courtesy of GG who is also crushing it. 👌
Casper played only one morning match so far. With the rain delays, he's played what either started or finished as night matches on Lenglen against Foki, Etcheverry, and Fritz.
Ah, I see what you did there, Gil I know you're a huge Alcaraz fan, and you think he'll win tomorrow, but you pulled the classic move I use when betting against Djokovic-I win some cash if he loses and get satisfaction if he wins. If Alcaraz wins tomorrow (and he probably will), I bet you'll start saying you didn't expect him to be that impressive, and if he loses, you were right all along :) P.s great analysis as always
You didn't (exactly) give your prediction on the Ruud/Zverev. 4 or 5? I think also an important factor could be that Ruud is gonna be out of synch because of the missed QF and the extra days off. That can sometimes hurt a player. I agree that Z finishing in 3 sets is HUGE for him. Both physically and mentally (e.g., his confidence). I think you're scared to pick Z because you're worried he will falter, mentally, which is why you couldn't eek out a firm prediction at the end. I'm predicting Z in 4. And Sinner in 4 because IGIT (In Gill I Trust).
Zverev is such a natural on clay. You can tell he’s practiced hitting high top spin returns. His backhand is so reliable compared to others on clay. But I still don’t want him to win. He ain’t my vibe. Hope Casper comes through!
Great analysis, really, I think you're right on all the different aspects. I think Sinner in 5. He will pull through, just like he did in the final of the Australian Open against Medvedev. Let the game begin!
This time Sinner will not rush too much or dive to catch Alcaraz dropshots. Surely he learned about that in IW. Sinner can play very high level for 4 sets in a row, Alcaraz surely can have an higher level in the 5th set. So for me will be Sinner in 4 or Alcaraz in 5

@@blackkitty9054Agree but on slower surface its Alcaraz without a doubt! Gill is a bit Sinner bias
@@ZlatniPlast don't think its sinner bias. More like Gill favors Sinner's style of play because it's much more risk averse and consistent than Alcaraz. But Carlos has been very consistent this tournament so that's where the intrigue begins
I think Alcaraz will beat Sinner
@gilgross - CA has changed his service motion. Basically he drops his racket right from the toss to get into the hammer position. It’s more live and direction is much better.
I am wishing for a Sinner Ruud Final

So fantastic semifinal and is gonna be Epic match of RG 2024 !!!!!!!!!

I 💕 them both but Im rooting with Jannik
@@blackkitty9054 , well , there are a few things Sinner is doing better at the moment , but certainly not 100 times better . Is weird dismissing a guy who by the time he was barely 20 had 2 slams and 5 ATP 1000

Sinner is not "so superior." ... never said or implied that.
@@GillGross You do not need to say the literal words to mean something Gill. Just listen to the first 10 minutes of the video . Do not get me wrong , Jannik is certainly playing better of late but what has been accomplished by Carlos at 2 years younger is mind blowing
Sinner doesnt have any mental edge over Alcaraz.
No way.
Bold and interesting prediction! Im still too concerned about Sinner his fitness and lack of results on clay.

The edge between these 2 is mainly the difference with their mental game. So Sinner in 4.
I agree with you Sinner the best
Alcaraz showed great mental strength the last time they faced, winning after starting 1-6
come back again after the match.....carlitos beating sinner
Sinner in 4? Pretty bold... Alcaraz in 3.
@@gabrielggcAlcaraz in 3? That’s pretty BOLD.
@emil cook !!
Picking Yannik over Carlos for form, consistency & opps to break serve for Sinner over Alcaraz. Sasha over Ruud w/Sasha's serve advantage. Then picking Sasha over Sinner in 5 for serve & sheer peaking form. Thanx Gill. Cheers, Milan
Sinner is legless on clay punch contests
@@ZlatniPlast dragi brate - think Yannik has been more consistent of late - give him the edge based on consistency of counter-punching. We shall see today :)

You’re forgetting about sinner shitting the bed at Wimbledon against djokovic
Didn't forget. Just think that version of Sinner is long gone.
Not on Umag clay

Zverev lost 3 RG semis in a row. You're right, if he brings the level he had in the 1st round against Nadal, he has the better chance. I however will go against your pick again, and say Ruud has the X factor and he's the one who played the last two RG finals, and he'll find a way. (PS: I'm not confident with this pick :) )
Masterful analysis as always! And one can't escape noticing your excellent mastery and use of the English language.
The stats from the Zverev-de Minaur game. Winners-unforced errors. Zverev: 20-46 !!! Aces: 2. The level of de Minaur was even worse. Zverev has to play better, if he wants to beat Ruud, don't you think?
He played one match great than one match bad than again great...now he will play great again
Well Gill said Alcaraz won’t make even quarters in his initial predictions , so what ever he thing little matters 🤷🏼
Nope, he predicted Alcaraz Sinner semi...at the start of the tournament
@@ZlatniPlast nope he predicted tsitsipas sinner, rewatch it
@user-ly8tp7vw3x wrong
I think when Alcaraz can play freely and creatively he will win. Important will also be the longer heavy top spin from Alcaraz and the first serve percentage of Sinner. Anyways will be a pleasure to watch 🎉
Alcaraz needs to fluster with variety
There is nobody, including Djokovic, who I picked to win more titles last year than Carlos Alcaraz.
He’s picking sinner not because of game but because of mentality, and it’s pretty heavily implied that if he thought alcaraz was more free mentally that he would win
Sinner is better than alcaraz u dumboo
Zverev destroys him usually. He is Alcaraz's hardest match up
if zverev wins , we can say Rafa lost to the title winner
On clay, Alcaraz is better. He has more variety. On hard court Sinner has advantage.

Such a good video and such a good sinner alcaraz match rn!
What do you predict on today's final match adela????
Putrid analysis by gill grotesque

This is so tough, it's hard to go against Sinner these past few months, but Alcaraz is better on clay and he's playing well. 55-45 Sinner.

What was the pick for Zverev/Ruud? Zverev in 4?
Sinner will have the most pressure as at present he seems to know what he is doing at present all seem vunrab
5 setter Zverev win and 4 Alcaraz.
