Its still crazy to me you got this bike for $600. I got my 89 for $2300 CAD which is about $1700 USD. In the end i spent 7k CAD to restore it and sold for 9500 CAD. The 89 is such a great bike to ride. Leave the frame the Fighting red and change everything around that. I personally would like to see a Peak Honda style color flow from white on the front to whatever color you decide on the back. Looking forward to your build.
I bought an 89 CR500 in 1992, and I still have 8 screws and a steel plate in my ankle to remember her by. Buddy of mine had an 89 CR250, and it sucked, way too squirrely. If you want usable power, keep it close to stock, pipe, silencer, jetting...that's all you need. Brakes were great, and the suspension does need help. Really, all you need to be fast on that bike. Almost forgot, TIRES!
I did a time lapse recently on my 89 cr 250 and then slowed down to take the motor out. It was a 250 I was trying to make it look easy but had to wrestle it a bit too. I also got radiator fluid on my feet and got comments about my flip flops. This is great content man and so relatable.
Red or white on frame, bare cleared hubs, calipers, masters. I recall the 89 being a tad harder motor to ride then the 94. Any mods done would be to mellow the 89 more like the 94 was. The 88 conventional forks were so much better then the 89 usd were. Fun fact....the drz400s still comes with the 49mm conventional showas that was used on 88 hondas.. they were all sleeved if I recall correctly
do the whole bike in black and gold.. black motor. gold frame. black swingarm. gold wheels with black spokes and red hubs. black plastics. gold seat with black accends. gold levers on black bars with red grips and red anodized bolt kit on the whole bike. black and gold graphics with red accents. burnt bronze works too......
Gonna be sweet! Can not wait! Gold whls /forks/bars, black triples/hubs/engine...candy apple w/ gold flake frame. black/red gripper seat. Gold Honda logo on seat.
Thanks for this build.🤩the frame I would do in red if I could find the right color. second choice for me is white. not yours then teal 😋 you asked...🤪😜this is going to be great! YEAH BUDDY!🤠👍💯
Super mirror black chrome powder coat the frame, all black plastics, black seat cover. Black motor with gold anodized or gold powdercoated parts. Cerakote the brake calibers, master cylinders, and shock body.
I'd look into like a burnt bronze like cerakote color, or look up black chrome powder coat. Looks super trick and clean especially with a black engine. But I think u should do shiny hardware on the black engine. And your cylinder is already ported so before he goes to town porting make sure to mention it's already ported, and be specific eith what kind of power, and where u want the power b.c. like u said. It's easy to over power them and that thing had all kinds of fluid leaks. Could've had air leaks robbing power. So it could be more powerful in its prime shape, then what u just experienced. He's gonna need to degree wheel it to figure out last port guys port timing and all that jazz. Sick build bro!!!
Problem with the cr 500 is they are prone to cracking the inner primary side case. Usually spider cracks in the least. My guess. Analog stator setup. Faster it spins the better the spark Combined with massive kick start. Lends people to kicking these things as hard as possible till they learn the start up processes. Then it's really hard to find that case because of that. And after market billet are like 1500 a side.
Honda red frame with chromed sub-frame. Yeah? Black engine ofcourse. Man I love your vids. I think your prob my favorite moto-tuber. Keep up the insanity brother.
Gloss Gun metal grey metallic for the frame I had my kx frame done this colour it proper pops but looks classy but not over the top an compliments other new parts fitted to the bik
Hi Clint! Red or white , mate has an 89 250 with a black frame and well it ain't the nicest ! White frame and white side panels like a 90 model ! Cheers buddy !
My favorite CRs aesthetically were the 85 / 86 / 87s. Right after that I would say the 89 is really a fine looking bike. I would keep the frame and plastic combo colors original. To liven it up I would add subtle color accents to other aluminum parts that can be anodized. Parts like wheel hubs, maybe rims, break parts etcetera.
You need to build an edition off the back of your garage. That way, you'd have a place to store all your bikes and your compressir. Place the store all your bikes and your compressor
What about a grey frame?? These late 80 early 90 cr500s are my absolute favorite. Had several and I now have none. It's been 25 yrs but I'd still pin it!
Im always in favour of original resto for frame color but if you were to do a color change it could go to white as Honda followed into the 90s with. Alternative colour would be a Repsol orange
If the bike was in the 90s I’d say white with purple splatter on the frame/subframe. Someone said grey and I think that would be cool. But red frame with crome/polished subframe would be trick for 89
Would love to see an 89 Jeff Liesk Factory honda build!! Go Aussie , From Perth Western Australia Home of the Best Motorcross track in the world The Manjimup 15000!! 🤙🤙
I have one same as this and I have a 2010 crf250 rolling chassis so will be interested in what you do with the front end. And ……. The steering damper on the standard 2010 crf. 🤘
From now on, sfter you strip a bike of its paint look for a manufacturing company that provides florescent inspections. That is how you will archive ultimate crack inspection. Its called NDT (non destructive testing) testing. I am a SR aerospace engineer for Boeing Chinook Helicopters. HAHA
Hey buddy have you considered a yellow frame black engine and red plastic combination or a mix up along those lines could be fire if done right ? ❤ your content keep them coming from Nottingham UK

Fighting Red for the frame !!

The comment about Kaplan America at 18:55 funny af
Gold frame. Black and gold theme throughout. Ditch all the red 🔥🔥🔥
Keep it original. Great show Clint. 🏁💯👍
I liked all the insides you gave to Crank, Cylinder and piston and so on!
Interesting about the machining on the piston. Good to know.
All cr500 cylinders were cast iron. I've always loved gun metal grey steel framed bikes- my 2001 rm250 frame color is the color I'd choose

BOB WUZ HERE!!! The 89 CR250 is my favorite bike, never had the 500

Wow
Gotta keep the blood red frame 😎
The Kaplin America impression zero hours had me cracking up 😂

burnt bronze works too......
Definitely keep the frame the OEM red!
These old big bores are the square body chevy pick ups of motocross. Getting super popular.
you have to be the luckiest guy every to find the cr500s like you do. I don't think I ever seen one for sale in the midwest.
Go white with the frame. That goes back to what a lot of us did back in the early 90’s. That is gonna be another sick ass bike!!!
Gonna be sweet! Can not wait! Gold whls /forks/bars, black triples/hubs/engine...candy apple w/ gold flake frame. black/red gripper seat. Gold Honda logo on seat.

I love your videos buddy. I really learn a lot from you. I appreciate that you like to do older bikes especially the cr500 cause I have a 88 cr
Do the high-vis fluo red thing. Kinda retro cool.
Black chrome if you are going with having the frame chrome diped
I’d say blacked out motor, deep metal flake over grey on the frame, polished aluminium tank and swingarm, black hubs on gold rims and red plastics
Red with black pearl would look pretty nice, if you're going with the black motor

Keep it close to factory red but do it metallic. It’ll give it a nice pop with the blacked out motor.
Grey frame! Good info on the horizontal machined lines on pistons.
With the black motor a red frame would be sweet!
Gloss Gun metal grey metallic for the frame I had my kx frame done this colour it proper pops but looks classy but not over the top an compliments other new parts fitted to the bik

"etcetera" you making up words now?
you do the frame in a metallic blue, that will look super wicked with the blacked out engine
Simply just a bad ass bike
Charcoal grey frame would look pretty sic
Love the dirt/grease mark on your forehead, the mark of a man who loves his work

Red, red I want red. Some like it hot, I like it red. Quoting the Red Rocker. Yes, red frame & red plastics.
Gold flake candy apple red bud! That would look sick with gold wheels and black hubs and a gold head from vhr or phathead !
CR500 Cylinders have a iron sleeve from the factory.
If the bike was in the 90s I’d say white with purple splatter on the frame/subframe. Someone said grey and I think that would be cool. But red frame with crome/polished subframe would be trick for 89
Red all day long
ka5p same rod i have on my 85 cr250.. stock for sure.
Would love to see an 89 Jeff Liesk Factory honda build!!
Go Aussie , From Perth Western Australia Home of the Best Motorcross track in the world The Manjimup 15000!! 🤙🤙
You see that new rc dirt bike out by losi pro-moto that thing is awesome
Cerakote bronze for the frame 👍🏻
I have one same as this and I have a 2010 crf250 rolling chassis so will be interested in what you do with the front end. And ……. The steering damper on the standard 2010 crf. 🤘
Blue frame , blue seat with blue in the graphics
Metallic silver frame contrast to black motor
I think you should paint it silver and green like the old elsinore colors
Dude, u described me to the T lol.
Great channel really enjoy your videos
It’s go time!!
Excellent!
Candy red frame 👌🏻
White pearlesence with a hint of red metallic flake
I ve turned on my notifications 👌🏼
nickel plate the swing arm ! raw frame if its clean enough just lacquer !!
Stock cr500 brakes will land you In the hospital quick lol, they don't stop to save your life, literally.
Stop ? Stop is for cowards. I have NO brakes on mine. I know how to ride.
Brakes just slow you down
Oem blood red, but make it a hypershift color.
From now on, sfter you strip a bike of its paint look for a manufacturing company that provides florescent inspections. That is how you will archive ultimate crack inspection. Its called NDT (non destructive testing) testing. I am a SR aerospace engineer for Boeing Chinook Helicopters. HAHA
I'd go with either original blood red or nickel plated frame!
Chrome frame with the motor black
Do the frame yellow in the engine red racing colors
All CR500’s came with a cast iron sleeve
What about white frame, black engine and Gold rims?
Red frame ❤
Brass braze the frame rails way stronger 😉😉😉
White frame and gold rims
Do the frame a desert tan color or a dark gray color.
You can tell that a Novice to pro rider Never Owned it or Rode it ,the Original Foot pegs are still on , how’s the Frame ? Major hits
Hey buddy have you considered a yellow frame black engine and red plastic combination or a mix up along those lines could be fire if done right ? ❤ your content keep them coming from Nottingham UK
Hey Lund, is it common to port a nikasil cylinder and get it re plated after porting?
Yes. I'd just have the same company to do it all. Millenium Technologies comes to mind.
GOLD !!! 😃👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
Why not put the newer 49mm Showa’s up front?
Still worth 600 dollars there only going up in price as time goes on I had ago of my buddy's dads cr500 it was a unbridled monster
You should do the frame a cool gray to contrast the blackout look. I like watching your builds. It's cathartic.
Shiny gold would be cool or chrome
What ever happened to that Ktm 300? The one you burned the paddle off of?
Fire engine red frame 🍀👍🙏
Chrome the fram and black the motor
Mmmmmmmmm, chrome, me love chrome
Let me know if you want to sell it when you finish restoring it. I sure would like to buy it.
Yes!!!
OE orange/red what ever or burn it like Ryan's KX250
Yeeehaw
Do the frame in White.
Chrome yhe fram withbthe black motor
Gold
Do an aluminum tank
Keep it red or…flip it, black frame red motor
I bought a 1991 for 1000 in 2022 has a 1987 engine
