This game is a revolution. Even with Dated graphics and a lacking english it is incredible. It just goes to show how a phenomenal storyline and fluid gameplay can create something magnificent. Simply untoppable. Remember the father vs. son duel...the death of Gremio...
1 of the most underrated RPGs of all-time, 1 of the most underrated RPG series ever, 1 of the most underrated video games period!!! Great story, great music, great characters & world, great gameplay, just everything about the Suikoden series is simply great :) RIP Konami :(
@Silverbullet 999 & how is me calling Suikoden underrated a reason for you to act like a jerk??? I love the Suikoden series a whole lot, I own 5 outta the 6 games in the series but the truth is that Suikoden is indeed an underrated series as it never garnered the same hype & attention as it's fellow Konami franchises Metal Gear, Castlevania & Silent Hill or reached the same larger than life heights as other more famous RPG franchises such as Final Fantasy, Mass Effect, Dragon Age and The Witcher. But being underrated does not mean & should not mean that Suikoden sucks because Suikoden does not suck whatsoever. Had Konami promoted the Suikoden series the same as they did with the likes of Metal Gear, Castlevania & Silent Hill than way more people would have most definitely have played the Suikoden games no doubt about it. Suikoden nonetheless has a very devoted & strong fan following.
I love this theme T__T It makes me feel so happy and nostalgic whenever I listen to it. *tears* Suikoden series is one of my all-time favorites and is just one of the best game franchises ever.
i would say that 2 is a bit better, but on a whole. this game is one of my top games ever. i would say it would be. suikoden 2 chrono trigger suikoden.
Till now Suikoden series is the BEST JRPGs ever made. Nothing can compare to these games . Damn it Konami! Give us Suikoden VI! You need to introduce all the Trues Runes!
Comment is 3 years old but eh who cares. If you want another game check out Eiyuden Chronicle: Hundred Heroes. It's made by most (if not all) of the original Suikoden team and it looks to play the same way. Comes out next year, but peep their Kickstarter page
I got this game a few months ago and just finished it last night. This is one of the best rpg's that I've played in a long time. I'm offically a suikoden fan!
Today I am actually 22 years old and do not have so much time replaying all those old psx rpg´s anymore. It´s a good thing all replays exist here on youtube along with music and scenes
Suikoden fans everywhere rejoice, remasters of both Suikoden 1 & 2 officially announced at Tokyo Game Show 2022 for release on both Playstation 4/5 & Nintendo Switch in 2023. OH HELL YEAH, THE 108 STARS OF DESTINY ARE BACK👍
I remember getting this game on the psx the summer I was 11 years old. I thought it was great and played it over and over again probably 12 times. This is the first and probably the best RPG I ever played, it is just something special with it that other games are not close to
best ps1, best rpg, best of ALL time. suikoden I & II will always be remembered and hold a strong place in my heart. konami, you guys did a fantastic job, and need to bring these kinds of games back. screw ffxiii, this is where its at!
@ Spatan2567 : Is a long RPG is which you control a character ( no starting name ) who is tied to a royal family ( your brother is a high general that your related to )that rules over the land. After some conflicts in the start of the game, your character rebels against the "City-Stats" ( as the regime is named ) with the goal of trying to overthrow the leader, your brother betrays you and fights alongside the king.
I was just randomly plucking guitar strings when I suddenly found out I was playing the 'Sad theme'. I think that's a sign that suikoden has one of the best theme music of all video games.. It's like I still mourn Gremio every time I hear that song...
Suikoden will, obviously, never be on par with the RPGs of today but it will always remain one of the greatest RPG games ever created. Its story is a classic amongst RPG players who have been lucky enough to play the series, since it is so rare in the western hemisphere. I agree with secretagentchris, classic RPGs are loved by players, not because of aesthetic graphics but because of their stories. Graphics is only the skin of the games, what counts is the emotional impact of the story.
Oh, and the tease of a scene with Tir, Ted, and Gremio at the cliff of Lake Toran. It was haunting me! There had to be a way to save Ted from the clutches of Kraze before the party left Gregminster. But alas, most of the intro movie was really good eye candy.
"In the beginning there existed only long, long Darkness. Over time, Darkness grew lonely. The loneliness became a heavy sorrow. Darkness eventually cried one tear. From the tear were born two brothers: Sword and Shield. Sword said it could cut all that exists. Shield replied that nothing could even scratch it. They fell into war. Their war lasted for 7 days and 7 nights. In the end, Sword breached Shield, and Shield broke Sword. Pieces of Sword rained down to make the sky."-Suikoden
This one pretty much changed my life. Or at least the way I looked at video games. I remember I bought it on impulse when it first landed on the playstation shelves at Circuit City (lol) and wouldn't sleep at night because I kept unraveling more and more of the story. :[ Once it was finally over, I looked at the intro movie again and thought I was missing so much because I hadn't seen that scene with Odessa, Flik, and Humphrey. I was convinced there was a way to start a new story as Odessa!
Making them in 3D was a completely natural decision. They saw which way the winds were blowing and followed them, which is the most normal thing a human can do. The quality of a plot, whether Suikoden or no, has nothing whatsoever to do with 3D enviornments and character models. I found Suikoden 5 to be an excellent addition to the series.
I really remembered playing this videogame over and over again when I was 11 years old. I really liked it but never really understood how to mix the runes and get those special runic attacks
I feel the same way, though I really liked 3. I still have the first Suikoden and I have all of them as well...its just mystical and inspiring. Suikoden is very magical IMO.
@CCAWT dark cloud was awesome :) suikoden was my first rpg, and its one of my favorite genres to this day, if you do play suikoden, remember when you get the story option to spare someone or kill them, always spare them! that way you get all 108 stars of destiny, and get the best ending :) this game and the characters in it are pretty much burned into my memory
I played suikoden II It was the best game I ever played. The ending of the game almost made me cry :D The story was litteraly heartbraking. Not any other game did ever top that one, in my opinion....but, I haven't played suikoden 1 yet. I doubt if one is better, I guess it's worth trying. But first, hoping i can still buy the game somewhere.
i havent seen this opening in 8years... seeing it now makes me wanna go accross the pacific ocean to get my suikoden back... ='[ basically one of the best rpgs, EVER.
@iwoof4u u play final fantasy 12 and suikoden 5 is the gameplay the same? can u change weapon or upgrade them? can u summon espers and recruit people into ur team? can u lead a war? can u do magic based on mp and not how many no. of availability of the magic/runes...? Bottomline, the theme is the same but the game play is not, and it did not contradict what I said. I said I want to play SUIKODEN with romance based storyline not any rpg game that have the theme...so yeah
I was going to say that too. Hehe! ^^ After finishing and completing 108 SOD of Suikoden 1 :) Upload it on Suikoden 2 and Riou and Tir Team is the best in RPG series. :)
By far Suikoden 1 and 2 are some of the best rpgs of all time. Its sad that 3 and 4 sucked. 5 was pretty decent, but has not been able to recapture the magic of the first two installments. Personally I am hoping if Konami continues the franchise, they switch back to 2-Dimensional Hand-Drawn graphics, but that probably will never happen.
Continued from below: You venture out and begin raising an army ( which the game does in a very unique, by collecting charaters, there are 108 total. )You discover an item called " Runes " which there are 27 TRUE runes ( there are other lesser runes too ) which grant the person certain strenghts. That is the basic idea, anything more would spoil it. This is a long RPG if you dont try and rush things...taking anywhere from 35 hours up to 80 hours to complete everything in the game.
suikoden 1 is one of the best rpg ever!! not to talk about the graphic but i think this game is better than any ff's game . i mean suikoden 1 is best in it's story main idea, story line, rich of character personality and what i like the most is message this game brought . there's not many rpg's that bring intense story from begining to ending like suikoden 1

@SAtownZ28 i actually planning to buy one on amazon until you mention the price... now i need to work 3 part time jobs just to buy this game and all its series icluding suikogaiden which is btw in japanese...
@P0ko4Sh0 I've thought bout it since I played 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 and the tierkreis..the fifth onne (if u played it almost had a romance where the hero is about to be engaged with Luserina but the plot is twisted and it ended just like that... it would get old if all the game is about 2 factions fighting to overthrow each other and finally the hero's faction with succeed
Still a fun opening, but it's crazy how improved the second game's is. Also that lens flare effect, lmao. But still. Love this intro and adore the first game in an amazing series.
If you ever get it again OR get a similar game, get hvy hitter/s one healer and semihealer and the main star then find a place that spawns tough enemies an camp it til your getting 50 to 100 exp then move to the tough area. I lost to Neclord 9 times before trying this an it worked wonders. An I keep doing this to the end. I do this with every rpg now. You know how long it took to get all 108 stars to the highest level?
Although the settings clearly show a fictional aspect, as oppose to reality, the realism i'm refering to is the character's emotions, story, gameplay, not considering the setting. And i do believe "reality" itself is debatable. Even our own world may be fiction.
do they have this game for PSP in the US??? I might buy a PSP just for Suikoden! I had it for PlayStation but i gave my PS away!! Can someone tell me plz!! thankzzz
::cries as all the memories flood in:: I wish I had this still, I loved it soo much its really unreal how such a poor graphics game can contend with games of then and today, and all because of the beautiful plot and storylines, it pulled you in til you really felt like you were really that character... Well at least I did.
Played through the PSP version a few weeks back and I'm currently doing a playthrough of the English PSX version, both on my modded Vita. Excellent game, an early showstopper for the PlayStation along with Arc the Lad (can't comment on the first two King's Fields yet, nor BtB but that one already has a reputation, so I can't really do any convincing even if I do end up enjoying it). I have not played the Saturn version, but I'll probably boot it up on Mednafen sometime, just out of curiosity. I have PAL Saturns but no Fenrir, Action Replay cart or Pseudo Saturn (yet?). Hearing that Suikoden 2 is even better and even a masterpiece makes me excited, but I'll temper my expectations to avoid any sort of disappointment. Extremely looking forward to playing the rest of the games, including the gaiden games, Tierkreis, and the PSP game; shaky Japanese skills but I'm working on them bit by bit. Also, seeing how Eiyuden will fare.
yea I used to own it, I couldn't get past the vampire so I stopped playing it, I haven't seen it since I couldn't beat that vampire, it was a great game.
That would be really cool but like almost every other fangame project it would probably die off. I'd really love to see a remastered Suikoden 1 and 2 with the same graphics style though. Hell a completely redone remake with new graphics would be awesome too.
As a bara fan, I have a penchant for the buffer guys, bushy beards are a plus, but... I can't say no to Gremio's gentleness and sympathy. One hand for Gremio, the other one for Fu Su Lu.
RIP Murayama-san, you were one of the great 🫶🏽
Playing this gem again starting today. Going to get all 108 stars this time.
One of the true JRPG Titans. He will forever be missed.
RIP Murayama-san🙏
This game is a revolution. Even with Dated graphics and a lacking english it is incredible. It just goes to show how a phenomenal storyline and fluid gameplay can create something magnificent. Simply untoppable. Remember the father vs. son duel...the death of Gremio...
1 of the most underrated RPGs of all-time, 1 of the most underrated RPG series ever, 1 of the most underrated video games period!!! Great story, great music, great characters & world, great gameplay, just everything about the Suikoden series is simply great :)
RIP Konami :(
@Silverbullet 999 Dude what the hell is your dam problem???
@Silverbullet 999 What exactly was it about my comment that you felt the need to spew such hostility at me???
@Silverbullet 999 & how is me calling Suikoden underrated a reason for you to act like a jerk???
I love the Suikoden series a whole lot, I own 5 outta the 6 games in the series but the truth is that Suikoden is indeed an underrated series as it never garnered the same hype & attention as it's fellow Konami franchises Metal Gear, Castlevania & Silent Hill or reached the same larger than life heights as other more famous RPG franchises such as Final Fantasy, Mass Effect, Dragon Age and The Witcher.

Amen dude; that and Suikoden 2 are the greatest PS1 rpg's in my opinionn anyway
Kamu menarik… ada ig ga? Bisa cerita2 pengalaman bermain game rpg
This music always makes me smile, great times I had playing this game.
In my opinion, Konami had done Suikoden V pretty well that the game make us believe that Suikoden can be great again, obviously we need Suikoden VI
Till now Suikoden series is the BEST JRPGs ever made. Nothing can compare to these games . Damn it Konami! Give us Suikoden VI! You need to introduce all the Trues Runes!
And the mystery of Sindar and Hikusaak and Holy Kingdom of Harmonia and Nameless Land and much and much
They should create a Suikoden online game were you can be your own character and choose or acquire the rune you want and level it up, haha
Rock Giggle that would be so fuckin dope!
Comment is 3 years old but eh who cares. If you want another game check out Eiyuden Chronicle: Hundred Heroes. It's made by most (if not all) of the original Suikoden team and it looks to play the same way. Comes out next year, but peep their Kickstarter page

This music just rushes back all the good memories I had of this game. Epic shit.
T_T Tears of nostalgia :D
I’m crying 😭 to feel nostalgic and joy
best ps1, best rpg, best of ALL time. suikoden I & II will always be remembered and hold a strong place in my heart. konami, you guys did a fantastic job, and need to bring these kinds of games back. screw ffxiii, this is where its at!

It is so great.

The memories. I've still got both 1 and 2 somewhere around here. I should probably find them and play them once again.
Love love love Suidoden 1 and 2!! Thank you!

The Suikoden team is back with a spiritual successor to Suikoden called Eiyuden Chronicle on Kickstarter! Spread the word!
Hit the goal in 3 hours
Classic Opening, this was the first game I played on the PS way back in 97'
This one pretty much changed my life. Or at least the way I looked at video games. I remember I bought it on impulse when it first landed on the playstation shelves at Circuit City (lol) and wouldn't sleep at night because I kept unraveling more and more of the story. :[

I played this game soooo much back in the day. Loved it to bits. =)

I have a brand new computer... with allota new games.... have a 360.... ps3... BUT! This game is legendary!!! I will never stop playing it!!!
Finally someone noticed! =)
I really remembered playing this videogame over and over again when I was 11 years old. I really liked it but never really understood how to mix the runes and get those special runic attacks
@darkweize
Se mi puoi dire altri dettagli sul titolo in questione(pittaforma, gameplay, ecc...), forse posso aiutarti.
Even at his most powerless, man's existence is never without meaning.
Absolute truth. Our lives have meaning.
@iwoof4u that is a fact i guess...glad we reached an understanding.
thank you
I feel the same way, though I really liked 3. I still have the first Suikoden and I have all of them as well...its just mystical and inspiring. Suikoden is very magical IMO.
I loved the army battles.....most enjoyable in the series.....I love how those lil buggers move....
just watching this makes me want to play it.
this is the original shit right here.
omg the memories i had when i first played this game...
totally. played it so many times, and when i get children some day i will make them play it over and over.
It all began somewhere... *sigh* :-)
idk why but i like when it asks if fats unchangeable makes the game so mysterious
i really miss suikoden!!
And so it begins....
One question, why was Gremio revived but not commander Teo(Protagonist's father), Ted(friend) when their souls were taken by the Soul Eater rune?
Such a great game and the follow up was equally as great. =)
July 2024 here best rpg ever
I will like this one best forever.
Beautiful I love this game so much!
oh yes good old times the best Game of the Series
@CCAWT dark cloud was awesome :) suikoden was my first rpg, and its one of my favorite genres to this day, if you do play suikoden, remember when you get the story option to spare someone or kill them, always spare them! that way you get all 108 stars of destiny, and get the best ending :) this game and the characters in it are pretty much burned into my memory
Suikoden Games kick ass! It's one of the greatest games of all time!!!
That was some good info as it's now released for $5.99 on the PSN.
It was a visual novel... the protagonist is Nash... the same Nash from Suikoden 3...
But first, hoping i can still buy the game somewhere.
brings back memories =)
Suikoden?FUCK YEAH!!! TOP 3 GREATEST JRPGs OF ALL TIME!!!!
god i miss this game.
i havent seen this opening in 8years... seeing it now makes me wanna go accross the pacific ocean to get my suikoden back... ='[

After finishing and completing 108 SOD of Suikoden 1 :)
Upload it on Suikoden 2 and Riou and Tir Team is the best in RPG series. :)
i've only played 1,2 and 5
i got to admit best rpg's i've ever played
can some1 tell me which characters that were in the 2nd one that were in 1,3,4,5
By far Suikoden 1 and 2 are some of the best rpgs of all time. Its sad that 3 and 4 sucked. 5 was pretty decent, but has not been able to recapture the magic of the first two installments. Personally I am hoping if Konami continues the franchise, they switch back to 2-Dimensional Hand-Drawn graphics, but that probably will never happen.
oh my god, memories
Continued from below: You venture out and begin raising an army ( which the game does in a very unique, by collecting charaters, there are 108 total. )You discover an item called " Runes " which there are 27 TRUE runes ( there are other lesser runes too ) which grant the person certain strenghts. That is the basic idea, anything more would spoil it. This is a long RPG if you dont try and rush things...taking anywhere from 35 hours up to 80 hours to complete everything in the game.
i love suikoden 1 and 2 they connected each other , just want to see what happen at the suiko world
best game I have ever played!
ahh yes i always play this game every single day
AH!good times..good times...(
suikoden 1 is one of the best rpg ever!! not to talk about the graphic but i think this game is better than any ff's game . i mean suikoden 1 is best in it's story main idea, story line, rich of character personality and what i like the most is message this game brought . there's not many rpg's that bring intense story from begining to ending like suikoden 1
Kind of on a Suikoden kick again because of the recent Remaster announcement.
The Saturn/PSP intro is considerably better, but I love that (beta?) scene of Odessa, Flik, and Humphrey fighting off soldiers in Rockland. Gives a little glimpse of what things were like before the game started.
Do anyone know where to download suikoden 1 and 2 for PSP....I been searching for it but cannot find...
Don't be too sad. Took a sharp and steady decline after two.
(suikoden II actually did make me cry )
Still a fun opening, but it's crazy how improved the second game's is. Also that lens flare effect, lmao. But still. Love this intro and adore the first game in an amazing series.
suikoden is the greatest!
This is my all time favourite game. Fuck yes
suikoden- best game ever

I love this game
def best game of all time
That would be really cool but like almost every other fangame project it would probably die off.
I'd really love to see a remastered Suikoden 1 and 2 with the same graphics style though. Hell a completely redone remake with new graphics would be awesome too.
