  • I'm dropping all* my films onto UA-cam now that International Baccalaureate has scored my work.
Am I saying these are good? Nope. I just wanted to document my progression from the beginning of my filmmaking in 2017 to the "end" in 2019.
    Please be gentle.
Update: I received an overall score of a 5 in Film HL; though, I know that, for this particular project, I was apparently 1 point off from a perfect 7. For reference, I'm in the US.
Since someone in the comments asked, here are the resources shown at the end (I can't put the full bib)

the two peasants are used to show the point of view of regular common folk amidst the interests of large empires at war. It contrasts the the everyday concerns of poor folk versus the concerns of princesses, and warlords. The two become recurring eyewitnesses to this grand conflict and their plight becomes comic relief. C3PO and R2D2 are two lowly droids that get caught up but basically walk unscathed through the epic conflict between the Empire and the Rebel Alliance ... and sometimes become comic relief. I watched The Hidden Fortress a long time ago and thought it was like a fun western. I love the details depicting how sharp a blade was by cutting the ropes with just a flick - of course that was cinema magic.

Princess Yuki was the first woman to be depicted in a tough, independent and feminist way in Japanese commercial epic cinema. An example to follow for a thousand of future heroines

Throw in Dambusters and 633 Squadron and you've got Star Wars in total.

I was lucky that I grew up seeing movies such as The Hidden Fortress that portray strong female characters. I have thought that it is (perhaps) ironic that many of these films are from Sinosphere countries, where sexism is so deeply entrenched in Confucian society. Anyway, nice job on the commentary, OMIF.

In normal times, if you fire a gun killing someone it’s considered murder. However, in a war if you fire a gun killing someone it’s not murder. Princess Leia did not “steal” plans or commit a crime as it was a wartime action of espionage.

My use of the word "crime," in this instance simply refers to a morally gray action the character performed which resulted in them being pursued. Whether something is legally criminal or not is not imperative in Polti's situation of Pursuit.
The focus is more on discussing why we sympathize with Leia immediately despite her being pursued by an authority (remember, this is a rebellion, not a war between nations). Of course, we are generally sympathetic to rebellions, but not all rebellion is good. Had their costumes been different, had their actions and mannerisms been different, had their dialogue been different, it might be less clear which side we're meant to see as protagonist (and thus sympathetic) in that moment. So, I discuss these aspects of film to show how they fulfill the tropes of a dramatic situation we are familiar with.

@@0mif Good point; and obviously, Princess Yuki has committed exactly the same sort of crime, and for her crime of continuing to exist there are written signs posted offering gold in reward for information leading to her location and capture.
