    Chapel Hill ensemble "Lost in the Trees" came to the Moog Sound Lab to give us a sneak peak at the title track off their new album "Past Life". Using an array of analog synthesizers and effects, the band recreated the dark harmonies and lush soundscapes of Past Life.
    Bassist Mark Daumen had this to say about the session,
    "In all honesty, I was slightly nervous walking in to the Moog factory for our session. We had little planned besides what song we were going to play. With the unlimited options for sounds from the many instruments available and our limited knowledge of analog synths, I figured the session could have gone either way. The nervousness faded quickly with the guidance of the wonderful folks at Moog who taught me that it's really ok to just turn knobs until it sounds cool. Anyone listening to the first half hour of us trying to figure out the song might have thought we were completely over our heads, but then suddenly Past Life started to emerge. Before we knew it we had dialed in some magic and were really enjoying the beauty and uniqueness of the sounds and music we were making. We are obviously enjoying it so much that we cant seem to stop repeating the ending over and over again, like we are figuring out something new and wonderful we could play on our Moogs with each refrain."

    One of the better uses of the equipment that I've seen in one of these. Either that or I finally get how some of the stuff is plugged in. I look for the lights that flash with what people are touching... Do I spy a polyphonic phatty setup?

      It's the recently discontinued Little Phatty Stage II

    Nice to see an old modular system in the background. Inspiration for new products maybe?

    • @sephes
      @sephes 10 років тому

      It's not an old modular. It's a "just" a huge rack filled with several Moog Voyager, Slim Phatty and Moogerfoogers (plus cv utilities like the cp251 etc...).

  • @holbachmusic
    @holbachmusic 10 років тому

    is moog making new modular gear??? i see something behind the slim phatty racks... maybe just some vintage gear, but that would be very cool.

    Try listening to this great song in HD vs 360p. Hear the emotional difference? All artist should be uploading their songs in HD format on UA-cam. Convert the audio directly from analog or waves to HD when uploading. So many songs on UA-cam end up comprimising the artist original vision because of cross format uploads which are inferior and will destroy the sonic integrity of the song. Keep in mind that UA-cam guidelines focus on video quality instead of audio.

    Excellent song and performance! A touch more stage presence from the lead singer would have crossed the 't' and dotted the 'i'.

    To be honest, I prefer the album version. This is a little too electronica, and LITT is too good.
