Chapel Hill ensemble "Lost in the Trees" came to the Moog Sound Lab to give us a sneak peak at the title track off their new album "Past Life". Using an array of analog synthesizers and effects, the band recreated the dark harmonies and lush soundscapes of Past Life.
Bassist Mark Daumen had this to say about the session,
"In all honesty, I was slightly nervous walking in to the Moog factory for our session. We had little planned besides what song we were going to play. With the unlimited options for sounds from the many instruments available and our limited knowledge of analog synths, I figured the session could have gone either way. The nervousness faded quickly with the guidance of the wonderful folks at Moog who taught me that it's really ok to just turn knobs until it sounds cool. Anyone listening to the first half hour of us trying to figure out the song might have thought we were completely over our heads, but then suddenly Past Life started to emerge. Before we knew it we had dialed in some magic and were really enjoying the beauty and uniqueness of the sounds and music we were making. We are obviously enjoying it so much that we cant seem to stop repeating the ending over and over again, like we are figuring out something new and wonderful we could play on our Moogs with each refrain."
moog where did you find all these people??? its like i found hidden treasure with this video series!
I think this version is better than the one on their album. #BecauseMoog
This band is heading for No.1 band of all time. Totally unbelievable soul enhancing music.
это одно из лучший исполнений что я слышал ) Ребята самые настоящие молодцы!
Thank you, friend. I wish the other two songs we did at this session were available.
wow love this song, i think its a really high quallity piece of music.
keep up the good work!
beautiful. When ever you guys have these showcases in the lab, i seem to find myself finding the artists work and learning about them AND buying their albums. love it.
Yes! and also realizing that I love the "Moog" versions better.
Fantastica
Awesome, Arri and his trees sway in the breeze.. Not afraid to play, exploring possibilities.. The music they discover is plush and free, bravo ! Come to moog fest ?
WELL DONE WE LOVED IT ,,,VERY COOL . WHAT A VOICE .
Some of my favorite sounds on this channel...Thank you for sharing :)
Really like this, both their voices are very nice, moog voices go really well with the 80s electro feel, keeping it real as always moog! Never heard of these guys im ino them now so thanks

One of the better uses of the equipment that I've seen in one of these. Either that or I finally get how some of the stuff is plugged in. I look for the lights that flash with what people are touching... Do I spy a polyphonic phatty setup?
My third time watching because they sound so good! What is the white keyboard the woman is playing?
It's the recently discontinued Little Phatty Stage II
Nice to see an old modular system in the background. Inspiration for new products maybe?
It's not an old modular. It's a "just" a huge rack filled with several Moog Voyager, Slim Phatty and Moogerfoogers (plus cv utilities like the cp251 etc...).
is moog making new modular gear??? i see something behind the slim phatty racks... maybe just some vintage gear, but that would be very cool.
No comments??? I'm the first. Mad. Thanks again moog and lost in the trees
Try listening to this great song in HD vs 360p. Hear the emotional difference? All artist should be uploading their songs in HD format on UA-cam. Convert the audio directly from analog or waves to HD when uploading. So many songs on UA-cam end up comprimising the artist original vision because of cross format uploads which are inferior and will destroy the sonic integrity of the song. Keep in mind that UA-cam guidelines focus on video quality instead of audio.
Excellent song and performance! A touch more stage presence from the lead singer would have crossed the 't' and dotted the 'i'.
The lead singer reminds me of The Lightning Seeds.
магия
It's a shame they've disbanded :(
To be honest, I prefer the album version. This is a little too electronica, and LITT is too good.
