====Description==== Jurassic Park is a rail shooter arcade game developed and released by Sega in 1994. It is based on the 1993 film of the same name. The game cabinet resembles the rear of the Ford Explorer tour vehicles used in the film. The player, equipped with a joystick, must shoot dinosaurs that appear on-screen throughout the game. The game includes a moving seat,[also used in Sega's 1991 light gun shooter Rail Chase. The seat is powered by hydraulic pistons to move the seat according to action on the screen. I remember as a kid I was at the local Chuck E. Cheese [sadly no longer around], and I was raging through the game down to my last coin. Out of nowhere, this other kid jumps in with a whole bag of coins and says "Let's do this!" It was the most 90's thing ever, and thanks to that kid and his seemingly limitless bag we beat the game. I even remember being upset at the developer oversight of giving Dr. Grant black hair, too, heh.
They still had them around in the early 2000s as well although I was basically a toddler at that point. I'd sit on my dad's lap and move the stick after getting a haircut at the barbershop (that was in the same building as the arcade for some reason). Glad this game holds so many comfy memories for people.
To me, this TAS represents the difference between a good arcade game, and a bad one. (At least for rail shooters.) For comparison, let’s look at the entire House of the Dead series, the time-tested approved way to make an arcade rail shooter. Even since the very first entry, a House of the Dead game is possible to complete with only one credit, and while it may be incredibly difficult, you can even clear the game without taking any damage. The games have an incredibly steep learning curve to them, but with some good aim and a little memorization, you can at least 1cc every single entry, even up to Scarlet Dawn. This game, however, there’s almost no point to practicing your aim. There’s almost no point to memorizing all the obstacles, or where the life power-ups are. The fact is there’s so much unavoidable damage that it’s near impossible to 1cc this game. I have seen it done by a human player, but they had to turn the difficulty down to the lowest setting. Even then, they only *barely* survived. Now, I know that at the end of the day, it’s an arcade game. I get that. I understand that the main job of an arcade machine is to make you pop in as many quarters as possible. What I’m saying is that there’s a difference between the way the HOTD series does this and the way that Jurassic Park does this. HOTD does this by offering difficult but legitimate challenges. Jurassic Park does this by straight up cheating. And that’s not even mentioning the fact that HOTD has had branching paths and secret rooms for score boosting items, also since the very first entry. Excellent TAS regardless, but seriously…what’s the point of starting the game with full health when the T-Rex unavoidably takes a third of that health away?
Both were made by the same company and there's a five year difference between their releases. It's probably better to think of this as progression towards the better things ahead.
"what’s the point of starting the game with full health when the T-Rex unavoidably takes a third of that health away?" *Terror* . This game is definitely about keeping you on edge, feeling like you're just barely surviving these encounters: you don't have a fair shot, you're in over your head, and that makes your pull through that much sweeter. But then I haven't played HOTD, so i don't know if it offers that same near-constant pulse-pounding thrill.
I don't know why, but whenever I would see those two raptors pop onto the screen at 01:18 while playing this game, my mind wanders to them being radio personalities for a moment. "This is Bob and Ted in the morning, coming to you live from the cave!" I had a weird mind as a kid...still do, but not as much lol
Gotta love how even the almighty TAS can’t outright obliterate the T-Rex. Still a really nice TAS though, and one I got excited for. Hope to see something similar to this for something like Rail Chase.
I haven't figured out how to beat the T-Rex, if anyone knows the trick please tell me. But at least I beat the game with 1 credit, which was the goal of this TAS. Rail Chase, I didn't know that one. I'll put it in my list, thanks for the suggestion.
@@Prog61 Rail Chase is a 1991 arcade game by Sega. Because of the many similarities it has to Jurassic Park 1993, people often view the game as a spiritual successor. Thanks in part to the advanced sprite scaling to simulate 3d, the moving seats, 4 stage structure, and of course the difficulty. Considering 2 Players were used in this video to get through almost everything without trouble ( except of course the T-Rex ), I'm rather curious if the same can be done for Rail Chase.
Exactly what I was thinking. "I'm sure everyone who ever wasted quarters on this game is now kicking themselves for thinking they could have done better against T-Rex."
In the old days, video games were just a fun little disposable novelty, so if an Asteroids or Space Invaders or Star Wars or Centipede or Joust ever became unprofitable, it wasn't a big deal. By the mid 80's, however, improving technology, bigger budgets, and a shift to the mainstream meant higher expectations. Now arcade games HAD to earn their keep. Two big steps in this direction were 1. definite endpoints, so credit could only last so long no matter how good the player was, and 2. the continue feature, providing a further enticement to put in more money and reach the end. And if that still wasn't enough? Design the game so that the player would _have_ to shovel in more tokens no matter what. You're seeing one of these methods here, unavoidable damage. Basically the time you have to avoid damage just keeps going down and down until it becomes impossible even with perfect shooting. The Lethal Enforcers games had it too. Heavy-handed, yes, but that's how these companies can keep making games.
I literally still have nightmares from this, this was in my local Chuck E. Cheese up until 2019, with the rocking chairs and how loud my Chuck E. Cheese set the music, I feel like I can’t even sit through this whole play through because I can feel the rocking. Like how hard the machine would rock you when the game would speed up as a poor little kid with the fast music man, I was about to shit my pants 😭😭 my mom was laughing the whole way through
Honestly I had the same experience as a kid when I played this game I was so scared that I would just piss myself when I saw that T-Rex pop out and chase me
It almost feels illegal for an arcade game from 1993 to look and sound this good. More still, that it never had a proper port to home. Holy heck, man...! Great job on the tas, for sure.
This game is really really cool even today. Great visuals, creative use of the dinosaurs, awesome levels. Even now as a grown adult I find myself rather thrilled. Man, I used to play this game all the time with my dad at a Chuck E Cheese, I didnt even remember it being a pixelated game, thats just how good it looks for its time, and even now honestly
Maaaaan this machine is so cool but it feels so gratifying realizing that the game is just actual BS instead of me being bad, lol. Not directly related but I love sharing this story of this game: got to the end with a friend one time and the T-Rex glitched out at the end of the track. Instead of going into the "stop and charge" behavior it still acted as if we were running from it, including it's "corpse" flying off into the horizon despite us sitting still.
So many memories playing this game as a kid at Chuck E. Cheese. While the tas proves it to be rigged in terms of lost health and of course the T. Rex boss scenario’s, It was still an experience that had my heart pounding out of fear and thrill. I have come across many arcade shooters that will drain your tokens, play cards, etc. Awesome video, it was extremely satisfying to see the tas in action on this nostalgic Jurassic Park game.

But honestly, this looks like a freaking awesome game I wish I'd played back in the day -- even this TAS sucks me into the action of the game, it's almost mesmerizing how much is going on at one time! Those T-Rex fights frighten me, admittedly, because, goddamn, those things look bigger than in the movies! XD Still, thanks for the upload!
You know what’s funny, on the final phase at 14:46, when I played it at galloping ghosts arcade, I was actually able to interrupt a couple of the T-Rex’s last attacks. I don’t know how though, there might be a setting in the game code that might calculate when an attack gets interrupted. I’m speculating though.
Seriously, the set pieces are great! So much effort went into this game, it reminds me of Alien: Resurrection on the PS1 -- a technical marvel masking a purely evil core, dedicated to making your existence as painful as possible, heh! Okay, this game looks easier than Alien: Resurrection (PS1), but I get much the same feeling of technical prowess masking extreme difficulty! Once again, thanks for uploading this and making me aware of such an awesome game now relegated to the emulation era! (Dude, if you know anyone with a working cabinet, let me know -- I'm not looking to buy, I just wanna see it for myself XD )

Thanks for showing me what I missed out on. :-D
For T-Rex finale, you have to make both players combine powers to him, make sure he glows static yellow than flashing yellow. Static yellow shots will make the T-Rex flinch instead of biting you. In short, you need to tap both players' triggers at the T-Rex's head to make sure he glows or not, when he glows static yellow, keep holding it.
I have never played this at my Chuck E. Cheese but instead I had the Simpsons arcade by Konami and I absolutely loved that one the best! This game looks fun but at the same time intense and I did remember seeing commercials for this at Chuck E. Cheese during Cartoon Network or Nickelodeon. Also fun fact for those of you who likes going to Chuck E. Cheese did you know you can watch the show tapes on UA-cam? (From the late 90s-2000s?)
Thanks for this video that popped up! !! I was wondering what kind of game it was, but I was in trouble because I couldn't find it at all. It was a comical game in which a large number of dinosaurs appeared without hesitation with a strange voice like a Shocker combatant like this.
you know the most advance thing for this game was the 4D type chair that you sat in and it tipped and tilted to the actual curves in the road/rail that the shooter went and it actually added a level of difficulty to it
The music in this game didnt have to go this hard. Especially at 6:00 gotta be my favorite song got me headbanging and everything lol. Also if Fast and the Furious and jurassic park do a crossover movie for real they better have this driver in it cause god dang his skills are impeccable
What? Even TAS can't avoid damage? What a hellish game this is! This and Data East's Dragon Gun may mark the start of extremely difficult rail shooters being released in large quantities!
This is like every human being alerted to the Terminator and try to kill him and not learning how dangerous he is. "I just saw this thing kill 100s of raptors, I think I can take him."
Okay, after having watched that entire TAS start to finish, the only thing I can honestly say that needed work is the soundtrack -- it's... kinda repetitive, heh! Otherwise, holy shit, this was an awesome ride! Thank you so much for this experience, I'm so glad I got stoned just before watching this, so I could enjoy this so much! Still can't believe this game came out in 1993! Like, Doom 1 and Mortal Kombat 1 both came out that year, how TF did THIS manage to go unnoticed! Once again, thanks a ton!
I remember playing this game with my cousin at a Chuck E Cheese when we were kids. We managed to beat it but the amount of cash spent to do so was ridiculous.
I was frightened as a kid when going into area 3 of this game, you start going onto a log bridge surrounded by lava and jumping the missing gaps. That's scary.
Dude, I remember playing this game with a friend, we couldn't make it past the first cave. Granted, we were around 8 at the time, but that doesn't make that opening sequence any less horrible
this game was the hot steel plate and my brain was the poor flesh branded with its image. in cinema fashion, some time back in the 90s, I could be heard yelling louder than the T-Rex and seen lunging from behind the curtain of the vibrating and moving monstrosity that was this arcade game at Chuck. E Cheese. Any time after that day, I didn’t set foot near that game until my adulthood in recent years, which at that point was much different and didn’t have the moving seat.
I Always Knew This Game Was On That Bu-Shlaha, Even as a Kid when I used to just Dump my allowance into this Quarter-Kirby I Thought it was Impossible Even Memorizing Every Single Dino Spawn Every Jump Scare, Every Single Blastable thing alongside my 2nd in Command We couldn't help but Take Ls All Day, 8year Olds just didn't have the Hyper Snap Re-actions to perfect the game like this Tas But even Then I Knew Some of our Deaths were Straight Up Unavoidable Damage just Eatin Our Coins!
The last T-Rex though. You mean I didn’t have to shoot it? I was denied my fair play! I’m gonna take my anger out on the other T-Rex that doesn’t deserve it
This used to be my shit back in 1998 at Chucky E Cheese. Man... I wanna see a port of this someday, I remember I could never get passed first area as a kiddo.
I think there was enough fixed damage to easily get a couple credits out of people. I played this way way back when I was a kid and only remember the lab section. But watching it now? It fees like there's just no time to take a breath before stuff comes flying out from almost everywhere and you need to react ASAP to the point that it feels like the game is punishing you for not paying attention. The constant movement doesn't help either nor counting the genuine bullshit that were the T-Rex chases and the boulder. It definitely has the look and feel of a money muncher and people are saying that the machine moved around a lot, especially when taking damage, meaning that you wouldn't be able to aim/react as fast you need to. It's a load of crap and whoever made it is crappier. I also saw someone bring up HotD, and with that there's often a lot of healing as a reward for good aim/saving civilians. It's not a guaranteed thing, but it's way more feasible to make the most out of your money. It also helps that it focuses on your targets and their general area instead of the constant movement this has with only a few enemies on screen with the first few games. But you also have fixed health meaning you can only take so many hits before needing to put in a credit. It's also actually fun, so that helps
Mm. Sort of the peak of sprite based 2D emulating 3D space. Sega's Super Scaler arcade hardware in full effect. Wouldn't be long before polygons took over for true 3D. Sega's sequel to this one, based on Lost World, was full polygonal 3D using their Model 3 hardware. We weren't to know back then, but this was the passing of an era.
While the unavoidable damage is bs and infuriating I do beleive it adds to the tension of the whole thing, gives it a sense of high tension. Though I'm sure it was just to eat your quarters at an arcade. Also for 1993 standards this game looks hella good

Thanks for showing me what I missed out on. :-D
Might have been a leftover from the ancient tribe that lived on Nublar before Ingen purchased it.
Wow, I watched it all the way to the end. This game is insane...
(From the late 90s-2000s?)
for 1993 this game was awesome af
playing this at the arcade was amazing. and the star wars x wing fighter game, time crisis, man i miss arcades
As for Arcade game, developers keep pretty good balance between fun for us and making money for them, LOVE IT
I remember the Pterodactyl horde at 3:48 being impossible even with two players. Of course, the car movement didn't help with accuracy either!
TAS: I fear no man. but... that thing...
T-Rex: **Exists**
TAS: It scares me.
Ironic that they both start with the Letter T!
*Gunshots powerful enough to blast rocks away*
15:35 "Tranquilisers. Honest."
Holy crap, it's a Super Scaler. Spectacular sprite work.
Boy, this game was a wallet eater back in the day... xD
What a bizzarely fantastic looking game.
Thanks for this, it was a great watch!
It's been since 2000's when I was a little kid playing this game at Chuck E Cheese's good Times Man 😎👍
Thanks for this video that popped up! !!
I was wondering what kind of game it was, but I was in trouble because I couldn't find it at all.
It was a comical game in which a large number of dinosaurs appeared without hesitation with a strange voice like a Shocker combatant like this.
you know the most advance thing for this game was the 4D type chair that you sat in and it tipped and tilted to the actual curves in the road/rail that the shooter went and it actually added a level of difficulty to it
9:30 are Raptors jumping out of lava?
The music in this game didnt have to go this hard. Especially at 6:00 gotta be my favorite song got me headbanging and everything lol.
Also if Fast and the Furious and jurassic park do a crossover movie for real they better have this driver in it cause god dang his skills are impeccable
Love your vids. Just watched the Zaxxon one again 👍
Seeing the car as the ride for this rail shooter.
That must be one hell or a car.
I don't think I ever saw this game before. It's actually kind of a strange one, but they definitely made good use of sprites.
Literally anything in Jurrasic Park Arcade: *exists*
TAS: SO YOU HAVE CHOSEN DEATH
Man the T-Rexes are unsettling - especially when you see their legs detach from their bodies momentarily.
I like many remember this game at Chuck E. Cheese. God damn what a trip from the 90s.
Great job as always!
I was frightened as a kid when going into area 3 of this game, you start going onto a log bridge surrounded by lava and jumping the missing gaps. That's scary.
honestly, dinos doing pikaboo was adorable.
I never thought I'd see a Jurassic Park crossover with The Terminator, but here it is.
Prog61, you are trully pro gamer of this.
Salute 👍👍👍👍
You know it's not me playing? It is a TAS (Tool Assisted Speedrun or Superplay).
You can read the definition of TAS here: ua-cam.com/users/Prog61about
Gonna tell my grandkids this was the Jurassic World movie.
What exactly happen at 7:24? The weather was clear and then suddenly became rainy? Did that brachiosarus toss you to a different area?
This Jurassic Park is a lot more dramatic then I remember the movie to be.
I remember playing this at Chuck E. Cheese with my dad back in the day. We never got past the triceratops.
I Always Knew This Game Was On That Bu-Shlaha, Even as a Kid when I used to just Dump my allowance into this Quarter-Kirby I Thought it was Impossible Even Memorizing Every Single Dino Spawn Every Jump Scare, Every Single Blastable thing alongside my 2nd in Command We couldn't help but Take Ls All Day, 8year Olds just didn't have the Hyper Snap Re-actions to perfect the game like this Tas
But even Then I Knew Some of our Deaths were Straight Up Unavoidable Damage just Eatin Our Coins!
I was super lucky to get the play this one at the local Chucky Cheese not too long ago. Lots of fun.
Dinosaurs sure breed fast.
Who else remembers this a chuck e cheese
The last T-Rex though. You mean I didn’t have to shoot it? I was denied my fair play! I’m gonna take my anger out on the other T-Rex that doesn’t deserve it
Do you know how many quarters I lost playing this at the movie theater? This was ahead of its time.
Welcome to Jurassic Park
This used to be my shit back in 1998 at Chucky E Cheese. Man... I wanna see a port of this someday, I remember I could never get passed first area as a kiddo.
Watching this with a newly bought 27 inch screen in full screen mode and 60fps is rather intense. 😂 😎
A few months later we return to the island again
Me: Why?
I was kinda disappointed when the TAS didn't mow down the entire gally herd. I was really looking forward to seeing that.
Me encantó la forma en que les dispararon a los pterodactilos
No les hicieron ni un rasguño
John Hammond: You killed HOW MANY DINOSAURS?
Players: They had it coming, they where attacking us.
I get you are joking and that can apply to the more Modern Games, but every Dinosaur that gets shot here is tranquilized.

That spin has more motivation power than the Dead Weight meme of DMC V, luv it.
Why did tas feel the need to do that spin
@@churro5322
Your guess is as good as mine.
🤷♂️
@@lyndonluquin4091 TAS becoming sentient and having fun?
Also for 1993 standards this game looks hella good
Of the 30 years ive been alive, never saw the ending to this game, always died during the stampede
I spent too many quarters trying to beat this damn game! Could never beat it!!
This would make for one hell of a ride.
0:26 Welcome to Jurassic Park!
Considering this game came out less than s year after the movie it's pretty impressive
