    ====Description====
    Jurassic Park is a rail shooter arcade game developed and released by Sega in 1994. It is based on the 1993 film of the same name. The game cabinet resembles the rear of the Ford Explorer tour vehicles used in the film. The player, equipped with a joystick, must shoot dinosaurs that appear on-screen throughout the game.
    The game includes a moving seat,[also used in Sega's 1991 light gun shooter Rail Chase. The seat is powered by hydraulic pistons to move the seat according to action on the screen. The game's graphics blend two-dimensional sprites and three-dimensional polygons to give the sense of movement. Jurassic Park was the first game of this genre to include 3D environments.

    I remember as a kid I was at the local Chuck E. Cheese [sadly no longer around], and I was raging through the game down to my last coin. Out of nowhere, this other kid jumps in with a whole bag of coins and says "Let's do this!"
    It was the most 90's thing ever, and thanks to that kid and his seemingly limitless bag we beat the game. I even remember being upset at the developer oversight of giving Dr. Grant black hair, too, heh.

      They still had them around in the early 2000s as well although I was basically a toddler at that point. I'd sit on my dad's lap and move the stick after getting a haircut at the barbershop (that was in the same building as the arcade for some reason). Glad this game holds so many comfy memories for people.

    To me, this TAS represents the difference between a good arcade game, and a bad one. (At least for rail shooters.) For comparison, let’s look at the entire House of the Dead series, the time-tested approved way to make an arcade rail shooter.
    Even since the very first entry, a House of the Dead game is possible to complete with only one credit, and while it may be incredibly difficult, you can even clear the game without taking any damage. The games have an incredibly steep learning curve to them, but with some good aim and a little memorization, you can at least 1cc every single entry, even up to Scarlet Dawn.
    This game, however, there’s almost no point to practicing your aim. There’s almost no point to memorizing all the obstacles, or where the life power-ups are. The fact is there’s so much unavoidable damage that it’s near impossible to 1cc this game. I have seen it done by a human player, but they had to turn the difficulty down to the lowest setting. Even then, they only *barely* survived.
    Now, I know that at the end of the day, it’s an arcade game. I get that. I understand that the main job of an arcade machine is to make you pop in as many quarters as possible. What I’m saying is that there’s a difference between the way the HOTD series does this and the way that Jurassic Park does this. HOTD does this by offering difficult but legitimate challenges. Jurassic Park does this by straight up cheating.
    And that’s not even mentioning the fact that HOTD has had branching paths and secret rooms for score boosting items, also since the very first entry.
    Excellent TAS regardless, but seriously…what’s the point of starting the game with full health when the T-Rex unavoidably takes a third of that health away?

      "what’s the point of starting the game with full health when the T-Rex unavoidably takes a third of that health away?" *Terror* . This game is definitely about keeping you on edge, feeling like you're just barely surviving these encounters: you don't have a fair shot, you're in over your head, and that makes your pull through that much sweeter. But then I haven't played HOTD, so i don't know if it offers that same near-constant pulse-pounding thrill.

      @SkyblueStarmoon 2 роки тому +10

      @@Prog61 Rail Chase is a 1991 arcade game by Sega. Because of the many similarities it has to Jurassic Park 1993, people often view the game as a spiritual successor. Thanks in part to the advanced sprite scaling to simulate 3d, the moving seats, 4 stage structure, and of course the difficulty.
      Considering 2 Players were used in this video to get through almost everything without trouble ( except of course the T-Rex ), I'm rather curious if the same can be done for Rail Chase.

      In the old days, video games were just a fun little disposable novelty, so if an Asteroids or Space Invaders or Star Wars or Centipede or Joust ever became unprofitable, it wasn't a big deal. By the mid 80's, however, improving technology, bigger budgets, and a shift to the mainstream meant higher expectations. Now arcade games HAD to earn their keep. Two big steps in this direction were 1. definite endpoints, so credit could only last so long no matter how good the player was, and 2. the continue feature, providing a further enticement to put in more money and reach the end. And if that still wasn't enough? Design the game so that the player would _have_ to shovel in more tokens no matter what.
      You're seeing one of these methods here, unavoidable damage. Basically the time you have to avoid damage just keeps going down and down until it becomes impossible even with perfect shooting. The Lethal Enforcers games had it too. Heavy-handed, yes, but that's how these companies can keep making games.

In short, you need to tap both players' triggers at the T-Rex's head to make sure he glows or not, when he glows static yellow, keep holding it.

    Thanks for this video that popped up! !!
    I was wondering what kind of game it was, but I was in trouble because I couldn't find it at all.
    It was a comical game in which a large number of dinosaurs appeared without hesitation with a strange voice like a Shocker combatant like this.

    you know the most advance thing for this game was the 4D type chair that you sat in and it tipped and tilted to the actual curves in the road/rail that the shooter went and it actually added a level of difficulty to it

    Okay, after having watched that entire TAS start to finish, the only thing I can honestly say that needed work is the soundtrack -- it's... kinda repetitive, heh! Otherwise, holy shit, this was an awesome ride! Thank you so much for this experience, I'm so glad I got stoned just before watching this, so I could enjoy this so much! Still can't believe this game came out in 1993! Like, Doom 1 and Mortal Kombat 1 both came out that year, how TF did THIS manage to go unnoticed! Once again, thanks a ton!

    this game was the hot steel plate and my brain was the poor flesh branded with its image. in cinema fashion, some time back in the 90s, I could be heard yelling louder than the T-Rex and seen lunging from behind the curtain of the vibrating and moving monstrosity that was this arcade game at Chuck. E Cheese. Any time after that day, I didn’t set foot near that game until my adulthood in recent years, which at that point was much different and didn’t have the moving seat.

    I think there was enough fixed damage to easily get a couple credits out of people. I played this way way back when I was a kid and only remember the lab section. But watching it now? It fees like there's just no time to take a breath before stuff comes flying out from almost everywhere and you need to react ASAP to the point that it feels like the game is punishing you for not paying attention. The constant movement doesn't help either nor counting the genuine bullshit that were the T-Rex chases and the boulder.
    It definitely has the look and feel of a money muncher and people are saying that the machine moved around a lot, especially when taking damage, meaning that you wouldn't be able to aim/react as fast you need to. It's a load of crap and whoever made it is crappier.
    I also saw someone bring up HotD, and with that there's often a lot of healing as a reward for good aim/saving civilians. It's not a guaranteed thing, but it's way more feasible to make the most out of your money. It also helps that it focuses on your targets and their general area instead of the constant movement this has with only a few enemies on screen with the first few games. But you also have fixed health meaning you can only take so many hits before needing to put in a credit.
    It's also actually fun, so that helps

    Mm. Sort of the peak of sprite based 2D emulating 3D space. Sega's Super Scaler arcade hardware in full effect. Wouldn't be long before polygons took over for true 3D. Sega's sequel to this one, based on Lost World, was full polygonal 3D using their Model 3 hardware. We weren't to know back then, but this was the passing of an era.

    While the unavoidable damage is bs and infuriating I do beleive it adds to the tension of the whole thing, gives it a sense of high tension. Though I'm sure it was just to eat your quarters at an arcade. Also for 1993 standards this game looks hella good
