I haven’t watched the Sound of Freedom yet. I plan to see it soon. I loved everything you said. Religions politics what the… ? You served in our military. Thank you for your service. What sadly Americans young or what they so call old oddly enough can’t seem to realize is that if it wasn’t for people like you we wouldn’t even be able to disagree. I’m 37 by the way.

The First Omen is Directed by Arkasha Stevenson (Who Directed episides of acclaimed shows Legion, Briarpatch and Brand New Cherry Flavour), is writen by Keith Thomas (The Vigil and director of Firestarter (2022)) Ben Jacoby (Bleed) and produced by David S. Goyer (Hellraiser (2022), Antlers (2021) and The Night House (2021). Also the movie has a star studded cast. Nell Tiger Free (Game of Thrones and Servent), Bill Nighy (I. Frankenstein and Living (2022)) and Ralph Ineson (The Pope's Exorcist and Lord of Misrule)
Interesting/fun list, I was surprised at how many on the list I haven’t heard of; I definitely have to spend some time catching up watching some non-horror. I can’t wait for your worst list; as a certified critic, I’m sure it’s not easy to put something in that category.
Yeah I always try to be respectful of the filmmaking process. Even making a "bad" movie is still a huge accomplishment.
My top 3 for all genres this year are The Killer, Totally Killer, and Killers of the Flower Moon.

It's not from this year but a movie that has stayed with me is "Nature of the Beast" with Lance Henricksen and Eric Roberts. It's an amazing Thriller that has a great Mystery. If you can find it, I suggest you check it out; as someone who has published his own Thrillers (some with Horror, all with a Mystery) this movie just stays with you.

My 5 favorites from this year are probably Guardians 3, Dungeons and Dragons, Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem, Across the Spider-Verse, and Leo. Now that I'm thinking about it, Mutant Mayhem really feels like a spiritual cousin of the Spider-Verse movies. I would definitely recommend it to anyone who likes the feel of those movies.

My top 3 non horror films in order of preference are 1) John Wick 4 - 2) Mission Impossible Dead Reckoning part 1 - 3) Guardians of the Galaxy 3. Oppenheimer was incredible but it doesn’t have any rewatchability like these other films.
I completely disagree on rewatchability for Op. Very much like long movies such as Zodiac, I found it to be like a warm blanket.
I loved “Zodiac” but don’t think Arthur Leigh Allen was the killer.

Definitely do! It was this year's biggest surprise for me.
I've not seen it but the sound of freedom needed to be made | the music and soundtrack in John Wick Movies are excellent (the Ballerina is the spin off I believe) | Mission Impossible Dead reckoning was great though the yellow car scene was a bit too humorous for me, but I still enjoyed the rest of it | I haven't seen the rest of theses but sound of freedom and the killer are definitely on my to watch list.
Great Top 10. I watched Christmas Bloody Christmas again yesterday ( it will be an annual Holiday Watch) and the 16 MM is just freakin awesome. Looks SO good. I'm looking forward to Sound of Freedom when it goes to Prime in a few days

I’m going to use this list as a recommendation list, unfortunately I didn’t get around to many non horror this year. Like you I appreciate good film in any genre and I do step outside of horror. I love the look of John wick 4 but I need to see the others first haha. Maybe that will be my next franchise I go through.
If you love martial arts action with great music/score, the John Wick franchise is a must Charlotte.

Stallone? Maybe it's time to review Specialist? Really enjoyed this movie. Had some qualities of De Palma movies. James Woods is a Cherry on the Top there.
The only thing really wrong with the Sound of Freedom movie was the end credits scene. It is hard to deny it wasn't at least an ok movie.

While I personally don't feel comfortable watching SoF, mostly for some stuff that was shown about Ballard being cut out of the trafficking rescue program for questionable reasons. I still understand what you were getting across and respect how maturely you discussed it. And acknowledging how shitty both sides were with discussing it.

Awesome list, I was really excited for this year considering how amazing last year was. And I was a little disappointed with what we got. We got some good stuff but overall just a decent year for movies for me and a step down for last year, here's my list

I can’t make a top 10 because 2023 wasn’t the best year for film, but here is 7 in no specific order:
Dream Scenario, Dungeons & Dragons, Super Mario, 65, Sound of Freedom, the Flash, Cobweb.
I haven’t seen most of these, yet. I do agree that David Fincher does everything right, but “The Killer” story isn’t as great as it is visually. Fight Club is a great story. I saw that one in the theater 4 times. I’m excited to see “Oppenheimer,” but I’m going to wait. I think the issues around “Sound of Freedom” are bizarre, but I understand the implications on both sides. I’m with you, just stay out of it and enjoy it for entertainment.
Yes The Killer is pure style. It's definitely not his best, but boy is it a treat to watch.

If someone is upset for including sound of freedom on this list then that just says more about them. Those same people are the ones who politicized it in the first place. A movie about a guy who hunts people who harm children is something everyone should get behind. Yet they just decide to tell on themselves. Its a really weird response.

With Jonathan majors he was charged with unintentional assault basically when he tried to run away from his girlfriend she had his phone and when he ripped it out her hand it slightly injured her finger. So he rly didn’t do anything wrong he was just screwed over by the DA, it’s actually rly sad, he lost everything over that little thing. Hopefully he’s doing okay tho

People need to move on from the sound of freedom fiasco because there's bigger problems in this world (apart from trafficking) than worry about a movie that may or may not be true. Great list nonetheless and I felt like Mission Impossible didn't deserve to underperform I hope that next installment does better, and I don't mind that your neutral in pissing both sides off.

john wick 4 was mediocre story wise. They didn't win vs the table nothing changed. Except Wilson keeps his hotel and bower king his empire. Lame. Great action but lame story
