It's very courageous of you to do this. Lots of people would THINK of doing it, but you actually did it. And it's comforting to know your parents are boaters....
Hey Billy, this was my very first time to see "Tula" even though I have been following you since your trawler days. She was indeed a beautiful sail boat!
Thanks Conrad! It's about time to empty the whole thing out, see what I really don't need, and reorganize. It's annoying sometimes having to take things out and put them back all the time but if stay on top of it everything stays organized.
Great job! I am looking to do the same thing here in Dunedin Fl area. So many people are starting to live on sailboats now. The ICW's here are getting a lot of liveaboards.
Jonathan Ongman Thanks So much! If this is your dream you should go for it!!! Here's a short post I wrote on why living on a small boat is amazing tulasendlesssummer.com/12-reasons-why-living-on-a-small-boat-is-amazing/
I will probably get a mini portable AC for summer here in FL @scul8aSteve I have been eating out a lot recently so I don't think I will get a fridge anytime soon.
Hey man i know this is an old video and someone probably said this already but you can get those peircable butane containers at REI they're like $8 for a big one. Cheers, love your videos!
You can definitely learn on your own Michael! But it might take a bit longer. I'd say try to just go out with someone on there sailboat. Preferably a dinghy or sunfish.
A nice refurbishment. I owned a Frances 26 and do miss her. Just to be picky, it is a Victoria 26 in the UK with the deck stepped mast and extended coach roof.
Check out the Forespar micro gimballed galley stove. It looks very similar to yours but runs on small propane tanks available at Walmart and many other similar stores. Worth a check?
Im son starting the build of a similar boat, in Wood. The interior is spaced out more or less the same way. Is it good? or would it be better with beds forward? or is this good beeing a small boat?
It is a perfect layout for cruising. You usually want your berth in the middle of the boat for offshore cruising. When inland or anchored you may have more room if your berth is in the v-bunk in the front depending how you set it up. Thanks for the question!
those slats for the bed might be easier to deal with if you drilled holes and connected them with bungee. maybe a half dozen at a time. then when not in use you could just roll them up.
Definitely would pull that head out and put a porta potty in that space that way you are self sufficient. When you need to dump it just get some heavy duty trash bags and dinghy ashore with it. Works amazing when you are on the hook.
Butan. Not sure if you found it. You can rrfill the device under cooker that stores butan. You can buy small cans of butan. Call REI a huge hard core outdoor stuff. I am sure they can help. They are very helpful. Maybe if you still dont have it try REI
I am pretty bad at budgeting, been eating out a lot, and addicted to good food and coffee sooo I am embarrassed at my monthly expenses. If you cook on the boat a lot and really limit your spending it could be next to nothing.
I think what you are doing is an awesome adventure to be on. I understand the eating out thing, as I sometimes get in the habit of eating out often too. Looking forward to more videos.
Back in the 70s and 80s, he was a one man show working out of a room off his bedroom in a house in Tenant's Harbor, Maine. That's when he designed a lot of these really cool little boats. Eventually, he started designing larger boats that required involving more people.
+Will's Gills I teach kiteboarding in Stuart in the winter and Lifeguard on Fire Island, NY in the summer. I use my dinghy to get to Fire Island for work in the summer and I use it to get to land for kiteboarding lessons in the winter but I have a truck in Florida so I don't take my dinghy straight to work but it is very close by and it is definitely possible!
Do you have to pay for a spot in the Marina when you anchor places? Is it expensive? I have no clue about boats, as much as I love them and would have loved to do what you're doing g. So interesting.
Tula's Endless Summer Wow that is amazing I'm looking to get a very small sail boat to learn to sail like 13 feet long is there anything I would need to know beforehand.
I can't help but to wonder if you are sailing where would you use the restroom, also I noticed that you made a rig for your bed why not add padding to that?
Awww this is Tula!!!! Sweet. Billy, do you ever consider renaming your new boats Tula II, Tula III, Tula IV etc? Sorry if you’ve answered that question before
@@BJJSubArtist - In what language? Tula means poem in Cebuano which is one of the Filipino languages. I am also aware in Portuguese Tula describes a place near shore with bulrushes, and in Spanish it is used to describe a duffle bag or backpack.
You need to dump the candles, the one in the front locker by the toilet and all the clothes is especially dangerous. If you must use them in a safe place under constant supervision. Gonna burn your boat to the water and you might go down in the smoke. I bet the boat could total loss in 3 min and be fully engulfed in 7 min.
I've been watching your videos and you look like you live the absolute dream life! I'd love to live on a boat some day and do pretty much what you are doing, what do you reckon is the best way of earning an income while doing so? Keep it up man, your a legend!
No it's about artistic genius versus design by committee Chuck Paine designed beautiful original boats until he became Chuck Paine associates. Then the boats became generic good but boring and the same as anything else. The only person I can think of doing anything original now would be Michael Kasten. Check out the double enders by William Atkin particularly Little Ranger and Ingrid.
For gascartage problem you can buy a gas refilling connectior and the needed adaptor(s) to get the gas from any gas cartage to any gas cartage go amazone bout 15$ i do the same just keep a eye on the capasatie of the canisters
It's very courageous of you to do this. Lots of people would THINK of doing it, but you actually did it. And it's comforting to know your parents are boaters....
I'm jealous. I love the wood trim inside. there's a lot more room than I expected in a 26' very nice. thanks for sharing.
+dar5204 Thanks for the comment! The interior wood is what made me fall in love with her at the beginning!
Flash back. It's nice to see how far you have come 💓
Hey Billy, this was my very first time to see "Tula" even though I have been following you since your trawler days. She was indeed a beautiful sail boat!
Thanks Edward! We owe our current lifestyle to her!
i miss boating. You did a good job utilizing every bit of space.
Thanks Conrad! It's about time to empty the whole thing out, see what I really don't need, and reorganize. It's annoying sometimes having to take things out and put them back all the time but if stay on top of it everything stays organized.
The Frances 26 is one of my favorite designs. I especially like the trunk cabin version with a flush deck forward. A quality boat.
Thanks for the tour. Looks like you have you place all set up nicely. I also live on my sailboat and can't imagine living any other way.
This is one of my favorite TES videos.
Love they way you use the v bath. Great use of space. Nice little boat.
I can say as a old salted I am very proud of you guys a d where you are now
LOVE IT. Perfect boat choice.

Yes I have heard it both was. I think ours is a Victoria as well with an owner finished cabin. I miss this boat!
Living the dream man!!!
Thanks uncklebuck1 Yup pretty much just trying to live the dream for as long as possible!
Nice boat, looks comfortable, Thanks for the video...
Thanks Dougyelnats !!
Awesome video!

+Bill Gosnell I come across the fore spar stove before! If I ever see the opportunity for this on my future boats I will definitely go with that one!
i'm going to have to look for the picture I have of the sailboat in your spot. After watching this, I think I took a picture of your sailboat.
Grand lad, thanks for sharing.
What kind of compass is that on the wall?
great video is possible to have ac unit and fridge? being in place like florida extreme heat during summer months
Nice little homey boat though Basic. 👍
Hi, would you be so kind to give some more information on your manual winlass, such as how it is working etc... Thanks a lot in advance .
Nice boat!

Are you going out into the ocean? That would be cool if we could get a flotilla going to PR or somewhere
What's the depth in that little pocket?

I just got an o'day 25 and am in clearwater fla may the wind make our paths cross one day
david kluever Hopefully soon!
Did you make that cushion custom for that center berth with the slats?
beautiful boat! I might make a video of mine one day! :)
Awesome. Is sailing something you can learn on your own if not what is the best way to learn?
The Frances is one of Chuck Paine's most beautiful masterpiece's until he involved other people, you can't do art by committee.
+David-Paul Newton-Scott By involving other people are you referring to the design and building of the cabin?

How much did you pay for the boat?
Prior to restoration, $800. You should check out their website in the description, has a lot of great information and photos.
Great video! What is your job and do you use the dinghy daily to get to and fro work?

nice boat :) where is the best place to find one?
+Janos D craigslist and big boatyards ;-)
thanx:)
Did you single hand her from the UK? She looks like a tough little boat.
+Iandi Boats I didn't but she could totally handle it! People have sailed around the world in Frances 26's
Tula's Endless Summer Wow that is amazing I'm looking to get a very small sail boat to learn to sail like 13 feet long is there anything I would need to know beforehand.
This is a very nice boat!

How much did it cost?
Nice.

awsome

To be happy, have fun, and do some good in this world!
Sir, You achieved quite a bit in the last 3 years!
Awww this is Tula!!!! Sweet. Billy, do you ever consider renaming your new boats Tula II, Tula III, Tula IV etc? Sorry if you’ve answered that question before

Means balance.
