    Some use *BLACK* to draw in some of the lines which works great.

    Nice effect how do you get the gold veining you see in varnished African mahogany. I tried to use gold metal flake it don't have the same effect.

    Can we get oil based scumble anymore ? Ratcliffes seem to only have water based now . Do they have a monoply. I remember we used make our own scumble from " stainers in oil" which we can't get anymore . Younger painters wouldn't remember I expect.

      Sadly no!! It is becoming increasingly difficult to get! Water based scumble is freely available but it has poor workability in comparison the the oil based one.

      Mrcb in Dublin do oil based scumble called poly vine quiet good 500ml for 16 euro.

      Thanks Paddy . I saw that in a google result in a UK shop and it said not to use polyurethane varnish over it outside ? Have you heard of this ? or why ?

    This resembles peach pine not mahogany....
