    I had 3 of these 404s , a 69, 73 and a 74. Simple, robust and reliable... Driving a DS4 now.

What a fantastic interview - and only 3000 views. Chris is part of rallying history. The Newcastle-Maitland Peugeot owners were pretty famous rally enthusiasts. Ken Tubman, Tony Crossey etc etc etc. I bought my 1969 Peugeot 404 (with the 1618cc engine) off Tony Crossey , who, at that stage, owned Bellevue Motors in Newcastle. They sold Renaults and Peugeots.
I learned a lot about driving off Tony. I agree with Chris - The 404 was the ultimate Peugeot - a driver's car. You just couldn't kill them. I must look up and see if there are any Peugeot 203 stories
    Thanks again.

These won the East African Safari 4 times in 1963, 1966, 67 & 68. In 1963 only 7 cars (nick named the magnificent 7) reached the finish line. And these were all near standard cars not heavily supported by a factory team. The African continent fell in ove with the indestructable 404 !
