The first one is just an early water main you are looking at a blank end. There are miles of wooden water pipes under sth melb sth yarra all the inner city areas. There are many tunnels used for electricity cables and phone cables in the city and so on that are large enough to walk in and many crib rooms attached. As a City Melbourne was one of the first to be Electrified and all the high voltage cables are underground in these tunnels. They follow the footpaths and roads so to avoid foundations. Most are only 10 feet below the surface.
Theres a "tunnel" between both Myers stores under Bourke Street it used to be used by shoppers I suppose now its used as storage.

The Donaster railway was never going to be in a tunnel. It was going to run in the centre of the freeway where the grass is.
And it was originally going to terminate at Warrandyte. And it was originally going to branch off the Ringwood line just after Box Hill.
@@garynewton1263 It was actually going to be the first light rail a few trams stuck together. They had a diorama set up of it in Nth Kew at Belford Road when they were building the freeway.

Sydney's full of them I was on a committee and over lap was the underground and having some knewledge attempted to assist but the main probl was each orginisation had its own maps which they refused to share or have a central data base. Water electricals telecommunications roads asio! Has tunnels Roads Trains and trams lots of forgotten tunnels there. Then historical connection tunnels Martin place is full of them. Oil bunkers war bunkers secret so after a year it closed due to lack of cooperation... But I learned a lot like how an engineer got the shits in the 1970 with explorers and sealed of 99% of entrances into them and back filled and hide them. He even destroyed the maps he was that obsessed. And no one questioned him or even thought to stop him. He's long dead now so convict tunnels are now awaiting rediscovery.
