Why did the crowd clap right away? Also where the heck is the conductor ? Is the conductor the Solo player ? Because this is f**n mind blowing if it is. Is that why they're clapping lol?
A guess is that is an encore piece. Conductors were not a thing yet, at least in the classical sense with somebody conducting a symphony orchestra by waving a stick.
The lead violinist or the harpschicord player usually takes the lead role in a baroque ensemble.
