Just was thinking about moving up to Portkeys for my Pocket 4 from some low end Feelworld field monitor. Having camera control seems like a real game changer!
Nice! I have the PT6 monitor with a Nitze cage. The cage has made a huge difference, partnered with Tilta gear one can place the monitor anywhere, at any angle. Thanks for the outing. I will be waiting a while before upgrading, to get all the bugs out. Cheers!
This is such a welcome update. The old interface was absolutely atrocious. Like frustratingly, utterly, atrocious. Haha. To the point that I gave up on it and it’s been sitting in my closet as a back up only monitor for ages. I might actually use the monitor now.
Looks very promising. Thanks for the review, I can't believe Portkeys doesn't have a presentation video on their website.... I really hope they soon offer this update to all of their monitors, I have the BM5 III which is theoretically more professional but I feel they do not offer much support for this series. Camera control via Wifi is unfortunately not available either. Thanks again,
Yeah they need to put out their own vid for sure and documentation. There's some replies from portkeys themselves in the comments and it's information I wasn't told about.
Also, do you have some sort of anti-glare screen protection on your screen? My BM5III has such a glossy / reflective glass surface... I wish I could have that more of "matte" finish you seem to have.
Yeah it wasn't on the list I'm afraid but we're shooting on fx6 next week so I'm going to try it anyway....I'm sure portkeys would have tried it though.
I'm sorry that the LH7P is not compatible with FX6 at the moment. If you are looking for a product with a new UI to control FX6, LH5PII would be a suitable option. It supports control FX6 via the lanc control cable. If you need any further information, please feel free to reach out to us.
i use touch to focus track all the time and yea we need the option to remap a button to a menu or something ......as you can see in your video if the pressure is on turn off the focus track so you can use the menu will lead to miss shots
Canon r6mk2 with the Pt6 seems to lose some features with the new firmware. No camera control icon and a few other things. I really like the new look and style...Maybe next update. great video
Hi, I am sorry that PT6 doesn't have control function. If you want to use the monitor which has control function with a new UI, I suggest you to buy LH7P/LH5PII
awesome quick overview! are you able to confirm if they were able to add a focus marker for track & zone focusing that we can see where are focus is like on our Sony FX3 screens? It’s something that IMO is keeping this monitor from being perfect
good review i bought it recent use it on my Panasonic s5iix but when i did firmware update to the camera did not get any picture on the monitor i think the update mess up my camera setting keep turn off so had to send it back waiting on a replacement from amazon, thanks for the info bro from Wolverhampton
@@AltCine so close to being being perfect haha. I’m so happy that the display makes the Sony alpha series perform like a cinema camera. Having to output a lo res 3:2 image just so you can see your settings and image at the same time isnt great, Sony should have addressed that a long time ago.
@@nickrichardsfilm so true! I don't know why they just didn't do an info overlay on full screen. It would have been perfectly fine to have a wide screen image and text left in 4:3. Oh well, we can only hope they pay more attention to the little things in the future.
@@AltCine probably for the same reason they resold the a7siii as the fx3 without a viewfinder and just added a tally light. It’s the easiest/cheapest thing to do
Dear customer,I am sorry that LH7P now can't change frame rate on Sony Cameras (fx3/a7siii). But it now can change Sony Cameras (fx3/a7siii):Z0OM; REC; IRIS; ISO; SHUTTER; CT; WB; FOCUS AREAS; EV; SINGLE FOCUS; CAMERA MODE; Touch Fous
This is awesome! I thought MOVNORM was a new monitor brand-- not a well-received update to my PT6! The new firmware is snappy and much more intuitive than the last version, though I wish more of the sony control features worked with the R5C.
@@AltCine yes- for the PT6 to R5C connection the camera option menu is non-existent. Even if the PT6 had wifi/BT I’d imagine it would also be a canon-side problem. The R5C only has wifi in photo mode as it’s not built into the cine firmware yet (nonsense!) and even then its not likely canon would open up the connection for 3rd parties. Still, the monitor tools work just as well as they did before and snappy to navigate so I’m happy. I’d also say, the color and gamma seem to be more accurate in the new firmware- comparing the color to the camera screen it was spot on, where with the old firmware I had to tick the temp and tint a few points to where it wasn’t a noticeable shift.
Hi ive just bought the portkeys lh5p 11 ive been trying for 3 days to get it to work all i want to do is see the picture go off my canon r6 mk 2 and onto the portkeys monitor ? it wont do it ive got the hdmi cables connected and a power supply from a smallrig v 99 battery and im not even bothered abt camera control ill do that off my r6 mk 2 , please could you advise what or if im doing wrong , thank you.
@@mikebennett4922 hi, there shouldn't be any problem at all, just connect hdmi and that's it. Have you tried a different monitor or TV with your camera to make sure your hdmi port is working?
No controls appear on screen when playing back so from what I can see...it's not possible. Even if I go to recorded footage using the camera, I can't tap the play button on monitor.
I am sorry that LH7P can't control playback of the camera. Some of our monitors like BM7IIDS/BM5WR/LH5PII/BM5III can control the playback of some sony and canon cameras. For more information, you can browse our official website~
So I just updated the firmware on the FX30- I believe the same update exists for the FX3- the monitor does NOT recognize or reconnect after either the camera or monitor is turned off. Ugh. I contacted Portkeys who confirmed that this Sony firmware upgrade sabotaged the reconnection! Hope this can get fixed- otherwise the monitor is much much less functional.
I'd say screen quality is as good, brightness (nits) is as good or better on the portkeys. The video assist is built better than this model but that's reflected in the price. The battery life is the place you'd notice the most difference...video assist is very hungry.
The ui designer definitely needs an update lol. The buttons with gradients, are we back in 2005 😅? If only they just drop that stupid gradient n rounded corner
@@AltCine yeap am going to update mine soon, I actually complained a lot to them about the UI been buggy 😂 am surprised a Chinese company listened to it's users' feedbacks
Awesome, I’m in the market for a new 7 inch monitor. Was considering this one but the menu system put me off. Looks so much better! Thanks for sharing
No probs Matt, thank you for commenting.

Yeah it's cool. I still prefer buttons but that's probably because no monitor had something as responsive as the video assist.
I updated my LHP7 last night and the UI is soooo much better looking than previous.
Nice. Yeah they did a great job on it. Definitely more like what we're used to with touch devices.

🤣🤣 yeah camera control was a bit mad
So I'm using A7cii and PT6, there's no camera connection...So what do I need to upgrade? My camera or the monitor?
I like the update but what happened to the pinch to zoom feature that the first ui had. It was great for finding focus.
I love how this monitor looks more like a tablet and its not as bulky with thick bevels as some other models out there.
Yeah it feels slimline and very light which is great for such a large monitor.

Thanks for letting us know about this update. I have an LHP5ii, and have always hated the clunky interface. I’ll update soon to try! 😊

How's the connection holding up for the camera controls? Super interested in how well this actually works
Also, do you have some sort of anti-glare screen protection on your screen? My BM5III has such a glossy / reflective glass surface... I wish I could have that more of "matte" finish you seem to have.
Yeah the monitor came with 2 screen protectors. One matte, one glossy.
You could buy a matte screen protector for iPad and cut it yourself if you can't find one to fit.
Oh no, I wish it worked for the FX6. Thank you for answering it.

That's very true, I can see that happening.
I didn't see the anamorphic or line grids on minds.
Anamorphic is on the picture tab. When you select PICTURE you'll see brightness, contrast, chroma etc. You need to swipe left on those options.

I like the update but what happened to the pinch to zoom feature.
Yes, I’d really like to know what happened to this feature as well.
Hi, you can find this function in system settings~
Thanks for getting this info out so quickly! Is there any way to change frame rate on Sony Cameras (fx3/a7siii) with the monitor?
No probs. No framerate option I'm afraid....only shutter.
I need to update my fx3 but not sure if that would change anything though.
