Great video first time watcher and well done!
I know I'm a week late but I wonder how switch emulation would run. And btw there is an active fork of ryujinx that gets updated almost daily don't tell nintendo
Man, didn't knew that you can just get an image with LITERALLY ALL THE GAMES. This shit is super helpful but it's gonna be down in no time. Goodspeed you brave soldier.
There are. But they are not supported. Do you know how many people we've been telling individuals, "Batocera does not support non-official images."
I think the return of official Steam Machines is inevitable, anything to get away from the weird choices Microsoft has been making lately, can't wait to see where they go!
Would be pretty cool especially now that SteamOS is quickly becoming adopted by other companies. With APU’s and frame generation, we might be encroaching on the golden age of PC gaming on console budgets. I mean, we already have things like the Steam Deck, Legion Go, and ROG Ally, but they’re severely limited by wattage and/or battery life. Currently, my dream is for Gamepass to somehow be integrated into Steam. :^}
@@KC-bg1thsteam game pass!
@@KC-bg1thGamePass on Steam would probably be limited to Xbox games only. Like how EA play is EA games only.
Valve would be sacrificing a lot of game sales otherwise, and if they really wanted to do a subscription service, they already have the infrastructure in place to make their own GamePass competitor.
I would be perfectly okay with another Alienware Alpha style steam machine, I loved the layout of it and at that time I was into the high-end Alienwares.
Not as weird and crappy as PlayStation 5 the most disappointing console of all time. No new features and games have been hack lame games for normies. Already Xbox added lots of big features. 2 Xbox options, quick resume is pure magic. Gamepass. This is coming from someone that loves both and had ps1 on launch and Xbox . It’s like blockbuster movies with ps5 fanboys think because it sold more it makes it better. When it’s really just the dumbed down masses that even think that way and also just buy what’s the most popular. Doesn’t make something the best. Box office weekly and billboard charts are always evidence of this. Games are a bore. Need to bring back more creative mid grade games like we use to get. Some great indies come out. But AAA titles are a regurgitation of plastic mediocre trash.
I have this exact system with the steam controller. I made the change to 16gb of ram, 480gb ssd, intel wifi 6 l, and most recently a $20 i7 4765t. I am running windows 10 because i was not confident in Linux drivers for a GTX 860m. I use it in my bedroom for play ack and moonlight stream from my home server.
@jhopkins1515 Same! I use it to stream game to my living room with moonlight, for emulation, and some occasional web browsing
Love this idea and the projects outcome! With a great informative video
Ive been running batocera on this machine for years, its perfect
I definitely wouldn't use any premade images personally, I'm kinda picky about what games I throw on my emulation devices.
And I already have practically everything before dreamcast stored locally (very legally ofc).
It's not just user error. One shouldn't really be installing the newer steamOS variants or nobara if ones gpu doesn't support Vulkan 1.3. They are built around that because newer proton requires it and wayland and gamescope can have problems without. This means basically gpus after 2015/2016, GTX 900 (Maxwell) series and RX 400 (Polaris) series and up. A lightweight linux distro + steam and wined3d is a better option. Or what you did. :)
Great video! Batocera is awesome on the OG Steam Machine. I ran Bazzite and Nobara on mine and it was fine until the nvidia drivers got too new. I'm sure there's some workaround, but I will be reinstalling Batocera.
(Probably could use moonlight or steam link as a way to play some of that new stuff if need be)
I love my OG Steam Machine! Just last night I was playing Wind Waker emulated on Windows, runs great! I haven't tried PS2 yet, I'll have to give that a shot and see if running it through Windows will still have decent performance.
Hi, Linux guy here. Just chiming in to say no, its not your fault you couldn't get a GeForce 700/900 (depending on what model you actually have) working on modern Linux. The 700 series is entirely unsupported, you *can* make it work (though it would take a LOT of work to do so) but even then, you probably shouldn't. That series never worked well under Linux because NVIDIA refused to work with any Open Source projects and insisted on doing everything their own way (if you've ever seen the famous Linus Torvalds F**k you NVIDIA video, yeah, this was exactly why). From memory the 900 series is right on the border of works OKish for games but still not great. Ironically, despite its reputation Arch is actually the best solution for legacy NVIDIA cards, drivers for cards as old as the OG 8800 series still have drivers packaged on the AUR though I'll reiterate, its REALLY not worth your time unless you have a 900 series or higher (Maxwell), anything before that and performance is horrible. (assuming it works at all 🤣)
I'm so glad i picked my asm100 up like the week before the big youtube boom. I love it so much
Ngl Valve were smoking crack with that Original Controller, I know some people like it but come on 😂
"Windowses" not heard it said like that before 😂
It's crazy that this video came up cuz I was just about to do the same thing to my Alienware have the same one😂
I have been thinking about doing the same thing to mine as well in the past week or so. Lol
That’s a fire chair
I had both the Alpha R1 and R2. The R2 would have actually been somewhat useable today (because it could be ran with an external GPU but came with either a 9 series Nvidia or AMD RX 5xx GPU) if it wasn't for the fact that Dell for some reason unknown to science only wired the RAM ito be single channel. I liked the R1 but the GPU was not powerful enough - basically what you found here.
Shame too, as the R2 can be specced with an i7-6700T and a GTX 960 or RX 570 (4GB variants)
I have a very important question to ask on installing bazzite on this steam machine for the next video
Problem with all these are they are just to expensive. Alienware Steam Machine, the NUC's with gaming gpu's and even the MSI Tridents. All the used ones are just way to expensive. Most of the time they are over $300 and that money is just way better off elsewhere. Sure if everyone could get one for $40 we would be all over that but that just isn't even close to the case.
Amd cpu steam machines and low profile gpus be a good match
I still have my steam machine.
I bought two of them back in the day and played the crap out of them....
Emulation in the way we know it has been around for DECADES now. What you wanna play just depends on the hardware. When I first got into emulation? I was rockin' a 486 DX2/66 and could run everything up to the NES with the emulators of the time.
Nowadays? The cheapest of the cheap throw away laptops are capable of running MOST games up to the arcade era.
I have a Dell Optiplex with an SFF gpu and it's great It
You don't need WinRAR. You even have 7-zip on your machine so I don't understand why you're not using it.
9:10 Is it ok for your channel to meantion this stuff here? xd
Hey warning if I was you I'd censor the switch emulation Nintendo has been striking videos for emulating switch games
Sweet
These machines are damn ridiculous prices.. and getting an HP, Lenovo, or Dell MiniPC is 100x cheaper and faster. A lot of those machines are on 4th Gen processors, where a MiniPC is on 6th and better.
Better off with Windows 10 Tiny and using lossless scaling.
The boobooman 1tb image is not the one to get. The 256gb or 512gb honda images are much better. The boobooman is a xolkection of what he thinks arw the best games. And ha 0 neogeo. Does not have compleate nes snes genesis even though they only take like a gig for every game. I really dont know what takes upp all the space on the 1tb image?? Its free so im not hating but the smaller honda images are better.
didn't know youtube had piracy tutorials now
Suggesting a sketchy "fully loaded" emulation distro totally turned me off this video. No thank you.
Rule of thumb for me is any thing newer than 10 years I don't emulated just me... the images them self could be borderline privacy but I love botacera myself I would rather create my own limit tho and nothing newer than 10 years myself.
Just because you own a game already doesn't mean you can just download unlimited copies of it from the internet lol. Be careful with this video, it is still technically piracy.
People do videos like this all the fucking time.
And piracy isn't unethical
@@roguegorilla8981 are you implying that means it is safe to show off piracy? Showing links to pirated content (a fucking terabyte of ROMs) gets people's vids taken down all the time.
@@Nate_Thompson haha
Just because you own a game already nobody should care. It's simply not practical to enforce more obstacles for other people for no reason besides techicalities.
Yes you are technically right on the Internet. Congratulations +5 for ego points.
I don't see any point going against people who already paid and supported creators. And even buying used copies for inflated prices does not support creators and supplies are limited.
You should support where you can, but buying Skyrin 5th time already is a bit too much don't you think Todd Howard? ;)
Support and let people enjoy things in a balanced way and both sides will be more happy for it
