Please note that this is not a historically accurate reconstruction of actual Ancient Roman music, but rather modern music using Roman instruments and its modal framework. The Evocati were soldiers in the Roman army who had received their honorable discharge after completing their service, but enlisted once again at the request of an important general or politician. The Evocati enjoyed a a more prestigious status than most soldiers in the army as older, battle-hardened veterans who had returned to war, and were often equated in status with the equites class; many of them becoming centurions. The music uses the principal instrumental palette of Ancient Roman music: a lyre, an aulos and a pan flute. The percussions are more thematic and creative: I overlaid dozens of sounds of shields and spears being smashed together to exude a militaristic sound. The lyrics are pieced together from different sources: modern military mottoes and Ancient Roman texts. I used the reconstructed Classical Pronunciation accurate to the time span of Classical Latin (75 BC to AD 3rd century), and took into account both the stress accent of Latin as well as its phonemic vowel length, basing myself on Ancient Greek practice: therefore, as with Ancient Greek historical practice, the stressed accent of a word has the musical accent on it, and long vowels are demarcated from shorter ones either by being sung longer, or having melismas (more than one note) on them. Lyrics in Latin: Rōmule, vigilāmus prō te, Audācia et fortitūdō, Audācia et fortitūdō, Prō focīs et patria, Sīc itur ad astra, Rōmule, vigilāmus prō te, Inter hastās, ferte manūs certās, Inter hastās, ferte manūs certās, Prō focīs et patria, Sīc itur ad astra, Rōmule, vigilāmus prō te, Dūcit amor, patriae, quō fās et glōria dūcunt, Prō focīs et patria, Sīc itur ad astra, English translation: Romulus, we stand vigil for thee, Audacity and fortitude, For home and country, Such is the pathway to the stars, Romulus, we stand vigil for thee, Between spears, strike with a firm hand, For home and country, Such is the pathway to the stars, Romulus, we stand vigil for thee, I am lead by love of country, to that place where right and glory lead, For home and country, Such is the pathway to the stars! Though I'm not going to ignore your other great works of Turkish and Iranian songs, you are a wonderful composer and artist. I look forward to hearing more!
I'm not gonna lie, I've been absolutely obsessed with THIS song in particular since it was released. Something about it's lyrics. The patriotism, the profession of love for country and home, together with the promise to defend that. Its almost as if I needed to hear this. In a time when even my faith in home wanes occasionally, this helps remind me of my patriotism. That its not all bleak and disparaging so long as there exist those hold this that they call home close to their hearts, and are willing to defend it from all foes, foreign *and* domestic. To face mortality for love of home, family, and country. Sic Itur Ad Astra

The length of enlistment in the Roman military was a lot longer than that in the modern militaries. The length of Roman service was closer to the length of military service that would qualify for retirement in the US and other western militaries. The modern counterpart to the Evocati would be those who were called back into active duty from the retired reserve. This would be many of us if World War III started, a major conflict occurred that required expanding the size of the military, the US gets invaded, etc. So, when someone wonders if 38-40 is too young to retire someone from the military, with pension and benefits, remember, that person is still in the military and is liable to become the modern version of the Evocatus. At this point, "military service" is "indefinite."
"Beware of a old man in a profession where men usually die young"' or as I like to say "youth and exuberance is no match for old age and treachery" The Evocati in a nutshell ladies and gentlemen. IMHO, anyone who receives the Honesta missio and reenlists to fight for his Imperator commands the highest forms of honor and respect.

You are the only musician I’ve ever encountered that truly can send someone’s imagination back to the time period - it’s like I’m in the Roman camp as these elitists march in, to the bewilderment of the auxiliaries. Truly amazing stuff.
Just a few seconds in, this hits different! Amazing job with this piece!
This is one of, if not my favorite songs. Sic itur ad astra has actually turned into a saying for me, something to help me stay the course and continue improving my life.
Such is the path to the stars.
Keep it up, man. You're doing a lot of good.

The detail in the care of Classical Latin phonetics is admirable :O
I don't think I have heard anyone use the Aulos as well as you have in these Roman-Byzantine tracks you made. There's just something that hits different when the double pipes are played in such war-like melodies and the lower tones. I just simply love how they make the cultural aspect of these Greco-Roman periods and the music they (theoretically) used. Even if they're just modern music, you really knock it out of the park in usage of these ancient instruments. Though I'm not going to ignore your other great works of Turkish and Iranian songs, you are a wonderful composer and artist. I look forward to hearing more!
Una vez más me encanta tu música, un saludo desde España!
Muchas gracias, saludos desde Canada

Proud Dacian
Exquisite work! I adore everything about it.
Couldn’t be more honoured coming from you Luke!
Finnish translation:
Romulus pysymme valppaana sinulle,
Pelottomuus ja mielenlujuus,
kodille ja maalle,
sellainen on tie tähtiin
Romulus pysymme valppaana sinulle,
Keihäiden välissä, iske vankalla kädellä,
kodille ja maalle,
sellainen on tie tähtiin,
Romulus pysymme valppaana sinulle,
Minua johtaa maan(i) rakkaus, paikkaan jossa oikeus ja kunnia johtaa,
kodille ja maalle,

Something I always wonder when you upload Roman themed pieces, is if you will at one point cover the battle of Teutoburg Forest. Which is probably one of the most famous battles of Rome against the germanic tribes. That being said, as usual you created another piece of immersive acoustic art. Always a pleasure to see a new upload :D
I would love to see another song like the Fall of Constantinople, with competing lyrics in two different languages.
or better Yet.
Germanicus' campaign of vengeance
I’d definitely make one but I’ll have to put my hands on reconstructed Proto-Germanic lyrics first; when I do though, it’ll certainly be done!

Perfeito.

In the eartly realm might decide strength

"Beware of a old man in a profession where men usually die young"'

The Evocati in a nutshell ladies and gentlemen. IMHO, anyone who receives the Honesta missio and reenlists to fight for his Imperator commands the highest forms of honor and respect.

Dear Farya,
first of all, I would like to thank you for your incredible work, the music you make is just outstanding, especially for people like me who are interested in ancient history, namely ancient Rome.
Well, I know it might sound a like a dumb idea but I was wondering if you could make the "Adeste fideles" Christmas song, but make it somewhat more Roman or Roman sounding (or just epic in general). I got this wish because no version of this song sounds right for me, especially now that I started learning Latin and I prefer the classical pronunciation.
Thanks again for the great work, I really appreciate it!
