- A group of street dancers in Nairobi struggle against the odds to become celebrities.
A seven-strong group of homeless street dancers in Nairobi, who call themselves the Street Family Dance Crew are determined to overcome the desperate hardships of street life and make their names as celebrity dancers. Film-maker Nick Wambugu follows them for two years on their quest to find fame and fortune. Their journey is fraught with obstacles as they endure hunger and destitution, bust-ups with police, family troubles, and the crisis of the Covid-19 pandemic.
This is a film about hope and ingenuity, resilience and courage, as the boys find ways to survive and keep dancing - hoping, against all the odds, that they will break through and hit the big time.
Africa Eye brings you original, investigative journalism revealing secrets and rooting out injustice in the world’s most complex and exciting continent. Nothing stays hidden forever.

Same king. 24/7. Keep it up. Proud Father.
Thanks bro deep in to your family
Where is the Childs mother/
The spirit of Africans when faced with such hardship never ceases to amazes me...I wish these powerful people all the best. Love from the UK.
It's admirable what these guys are doing, but no Kenyan should live like this. There is enough for everyone.
Distribution is always the problem, isn't?
hafai kamwe. big up to bbc

Fantastic storytelling. Kenya owes these boys so much better than this. Wishing them all the success in the world.
Me too
Am so proud of moha. I would love to meet him ance am in Kenya his responsibility is in another level. I wished every father would be like him. God bless the whole group and a big shame to the gov. For not making any effort to help such young talented youth.
Moha has earned my respect
Moha is a real man! Look after your seed always
Appreciate you
Their prayer got me crying 😢.May God answer their dreams
AMEN
Look at all that talent and they are living off the streets. Dear God, please open doors for them. Many thanks to the filmmaker and to all who made this documentary possible.
Father & Son bonding caught my attention... More boys deserve to grow with present dads
Why don't they open a Tiktok or UA-cam channel, I'm sure it would generate something for them😐🌚
That's right I agree with you why don't he put them on tiktok then from tiktok put them on Instagram with a cash app attached to help with funding to get them some matching outfits or whatever they need. I'm willing to donate after all these my little baby brothers from the motherland so their family
@@treasurehunter183hunter8 governments..corrupt officials. They will find a way to get money off, the innocent trying to make a decent and honest living. Things, will change..we serve a living God. 🙏🇿🇦🙏
I have met them in tao near City market parking cars.I never imagined this is what they go through. It’s my prayer they make it in life.My advice to them,go online,Tiktok,UA-cam,Facebook and Instagram will help them at least get a some cash and market themselves more.

I hope they make it in life. Such positivity as they go through their hard life. Thank you for sharing, everyone's voice needs to be heard. Now they can be seen as human beings not just street kids.
Moha's love for his son is inspiring. Such a great young father with the desire to do better for his son. What a great documentary 👏🏾

i like the positive mindset they have n not involving in crime is one way of putting their lives together no matter how hard the situation might be ,Big up boys!
moha is a whole vibe, elegant and challenged in one breath
🙏🏾
I normally see them outside clubs dancing, i have never stopped to watch am ashamed i have never even given them a single coin. I never imagined this is what they go through! From today i will make an effort to support them whenever i spot them
The only 50-minute video that is not boring but emotionally inspiring. These boys need a promoter and sponsor who will make their dream turn into reality. God bless and protect them. UA-cam will sort their problems out with views.
thats true
I HOPE THE DANCE CREW MAKE IT BIG AND STAY OUT OF TROUBLE MAY THE MOST HIGH BE WITH THEM
MTZ aka Peter . I remember meeting him at kenyatta hospital . Such a kind man. Big up dance crew . I still have the denim he gifted me .

This is me. When I look back I see myself, thats how I grew Up in the streets of Nairobi. I was there from 1999 to 2007. I have done everything I see in this documentary. Here I am today having achieved a University degree and now doing a managerial Job in one of the fastest growing Healthcare company in Kenya.
I can assure you they still have a future only if they avoid crime. I will be sharing the story on my you tube channel , subscribe and wait for it here ua-cam.com/users/RickMasekeFred

One of the best 5 cities for hustlers in Africa
Imagine what's happening in other countries

The fight these boys put up is unprecedented. God bless them all.

I cant believe I caught a live 💃🏾💃🏾💃🏾💞
The hussle is real. I hope they make it into a better life!!
Good job Nick. Great story.
These are stories we would never see on our local TV, yet they are happening.
Thanks.. Authentic Kenyan story
These young men are so talented! May their break come quickly 🙏🏽
Great documentary, it has also explained the origin of the name "parking boys" (I had totally forgotten that one!)
Nick. It's a great pleasure and honour to know you. Great story telling, great story. Hope things won't always have to be this way
A great documentary highlighting the struggles these young men go through everyday to live, in a society that mostly see them in a negative light. I pray they may have a better future. Its hard life ...am impressed the way they are full of life and hope...its moving story.
Great piece, Nick! One of the most organically pieced production. I could almost feel to be part of the crew's struggles. It's unfortunate we couldn't get each of crew members' account. I can relate to Moha's struggle a the full-time nanny whilst the sole breadwinner. I wish I could host the crew in my four bedroomed house. They need basic cushioning during this harsh times.
I feel like crowdfunding for them based on this moving documentary. I loved it.
If you are in a position to help, please do it
Moha 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽
I love these boys.
How do i get to contribute some help financially to them?
These guys Are doing a good job and i have learnt something about them that success does not come easy u have to fight and work hard for it God will surely see them through thanks For BBC to interview them Hardwork pays Never give up guys
This are criminals need to be jailed
Is this series?...it has the potential to be a series with episodes...
They should represent Africa in the upcoming Olympics as breakdancing is a new dance discipline.
Great piece Nick . May their gift of dance bring them favour & finances .
This brought tears to my eyes. I pray these guys find their way in life 🙏
Awesome story. I am however shocked that the intention of the Childs father was to keep him alone in the house the whole day after taking him away from the care of the aunt and other family in the rural area. Good job from the chief to give hi a wake up call.
Hello from New Zealand I'm Zimbabwean 💞
Wassup #Beveck greetings from Canada 🇨🇦
Wow, may God open successful doors for them . Don't give up
Amen 🙏🏾
God bless those dancers and to all those hustling. They have inspired me! May the future be ever in their favour.
AMEN
This is such a disgrace to the Kenyan government. It seems they aren’t even making an effort to put things in place to help the poor youth or homeless youth. All those loans and investments from China and Europe just enriches the rich government officials pockets. I hope something positive happens to these determined young men and they get to realize their dreams and improve their lives. This world is cruel.
Try to understand why they are homeless in the first place, govt can not be blamed even for parental and personal responsibilities and govt definitely doesnt have the ability to help everyone , we would all love govt handouts but even the big old USA hasnt being able to end homelessness with all the money they got , think about this Instead of trying to play victim
So much faith through so many trials and tribulations.....they deserve much success.
Very well articulate and narrated came here after listening this story from capital fm such documentary is what is needed.
This is excellent work, amazing story of the boys endurance & persistence. I only wish them the best and the story gets to the right people. good Job
Such talent…Yah protect our children…Name of the song in the introduction pls!
Awesome work Nick! . . . .SFDC will no longer dance to survive but dance to THRIVE!!! 👏👏👏
I wonder why people still live in Shanty towns.
I can see the effort these boys are making to better their lives & I hope they make it.
I can hardly imagine what be fronted them in the Pandemic.
Their loyalty to each other is fantastic.
People still live in shanty towns because they don't have means.Think!
@@SteveyMane
Hi Steve
I think you got my comments wrong.
I am wondering why governments around the world, the United Nations, the Charities & the rich around the world cannot help change the situation fast enough
I Learn efforts are being made by these organisation & reason for me to say I wonder why people are till living in shanty towns I expected the situation to have been resolved in some parts over the decades gone by but the situation remains the same. It is a heart wrenching situation for me to think about it. I do know the reasons behind these situations I only pray that it will change one day.
@@esthermensah5346 My bad... I get you now. It's quite a sad situation but the first world countries don't really care about Africa other than exploiting the natural resources, making money and tapping into the human resources. It's upto African governments themselves to come up with a clear plan and uplift the lives of their people.
@@SteveyMane
Hi Steve Biko.
I read your response to my comment. It is OK with me. No hard feelings. Enjoy what you are engaged in. Bye for now.
A very touching documentary. Thanks for showing the world what people go through to just keep alive. The judge who released these kids free, God bless you. As for the Kanjo he who kills by the sword will die by the very sword. They are sucha pitiless lot.
This has really captivated me, how can I help these kids??
Street family dancer crew ig
God bless you my brothers one day has come when you get your great achievements ❤🤞🏻
Beautiful story 😊 I miss Nairobi ❤️
welocome bezawit
This was a great watch i wish there were more opportunities for these boys
They could go viral on TikTok man. Americans love this shit.
just watched the documentary for the second time we need an episode2 of the same characters mostly Gidi
Maybe someone can give them a dance gig.
Wow adorable young people. Doing all they can to make it. I pray for them 🙏
That’s was good! Felt like I was apart of their lives and experiencing everything with them. Great work!
🤔why dont you do documentary about how huge part of kenya is beautiful..in every country there is street family ..remember that
So you haven't seen anything positive in this!
BBC AFRICA should be renamed BBC KENYA! Theirs 54 countries in Africa it would be very insightful and interesting to their stories!!
Can I get moha contacts please I would like to donate small for the upkeep of the King🙏🏾
Bribery in Africa is a must for the police and the politicians.
'This is a film about hope and ingenuity, resilience and courage, as the boys find ways to survive and keep dancing - hoping, against all the odds, that they will break through and hit the big time.'
The above conclusion is interesting. Having said that the issue is has an emergency side which is the young in street, homeless. In every certainty, without being celebrities or hit the big time, there can be solutions that can address the issue related to homelessness. Thus alternative ideas can be offered to these young. For instance if they have the means could they transform their passion of dance into a small business where they propose music for weeding, birthdays, etc by organizing everything that is related to dance during these events?
Since they are passionate about dance but are homeless, can they be trained in the industry related where they learn to be sound engineer, etc
Wedding & party industry is big they just need the right break.
@@kerstin2148 What you call 'the right break' is a solution, but not what their situation requires in form of a spontaneous answer. They are in street, homeless. You can't address such a situation by saying 'they just need the right break'. Life in street in a life of vulnerabilities. There can be ideas on how to mentor these young by offering them some alternative solutions that can allow them not to live in the street in the mean time.
If you say the 'Wedding and Party industry is big, then they can imagine many things that can be the opportunity to employees in that industry to play a role beyond their professional ones. They can imagine things.
I saw some of the boys with smart homes. Why don't they create a UA-cam channel and run it alongside the street performances? Some of the money they get they can gather to upload videos. You never know who is watching.
I am dying to know how they are this was touching there all so strong
Great job...
Really inspired me..
It was amazing to know their names.
Amazing work Nicholas.
Wish all of you the very best!!! May God open the way for u all!!!
I love their creativity. Imagine From dancing to parking cars. This is good. These boys re Stars
I also love bond btn Moha and his son Malik. They are both happy in their Struggles.
However the Struggles they through re so terrible.
Bosco's relationship with his father isn't good. Imagine your Father marrying four times. I don't know how i would perseve it if i was in his shoes.
One thing i Love about them is Organisation. These boys re organized inspite of their differences.
This Gigi boy is very strong and powerful. How earth can you overpower four strong men?
thangs
love, light, and guidance.
Dope
why not put some contact here for us here to assist these young people?
Love this tale of street dancers from nairobi respect, appreciation & love for Nick Wambugu the creators Folklore Films more power!!
It is sad to see, how some Kenya"s Government officials will go to arrest the poor street dancer, while corrupt official are busy stealing from the poor!
its distressing as hell! Now there is a judge who participated in murder and a "judge" has declared that he cannot be arrested! But these poor kids are arrested routinely in this banana republic judicial system!
