The Fighter and the Pimp: Fighting for Congo's most vulnerable girls - BBC Africa Eye documentary

  • In the DRC’s capital city, wrestling has helped an extraordinary woman to escape the violent streets on which she grew up.
As a fighter, Shaki is an inspiration for dozens of street children, and her home has become a refuge for girls trying to escape the thugs, rapists, and pimps of Kinshasa’s slums.
BBC Africa Eye follows Shaki as she steps into the wrestling ring, fights to give her daughter a chance in life, and takes on other women who have very different ideas about how to raise teenage girls.

Did you hear that ten year old girl? She said she wants to tear men apart. You can only imagine what those children have to endure. It's sickening and heartbreaking.

What makes me really sad as hearing colonialist language we have taken everything from Africa and it's beautiful people don't let anyone tell you why it is pretty we all want a tan, because we hate our pasty skin. You are a beautiful continent and your ebony skin is flawless.

Michael Heery that’s because they never show you the good side. You can’t généralise your opinion based on one video. There are people who live in this country and they are good. I’m not gonna lie but right now, we’ll a long time now Congo has been going through a lot of conflict why? Because of the corrupt people that rule these countries not just Congo but throughout Africa.

This is sad. How can a country so rich in natural resources be so poor in human love and caring. The people can change this but if everyone stop excepting this type of life style and demand more of their fellow man. I am just in disbelief. The Congo is not the only place like this; sad to say. Sad.

These girls are so beautiful, inside and outside. If the men and boys treated them good, they would be better off. They are intelligent, strong and hard-working. Who are the ignorant men who waste such ladies? Please take care of your ladies, of your daughters. Don't forget we all have a mother.

I have sickle cell disease and I've been trying to raise awareness on the mistreatment we face but I can't get a donation to save my life. Honestly it disgusts me that I can't & I'm overlooked..
March 2017 I was found unresponsive and was in a coma for 5 days. 3 weeks later I had 2 seizures and fractured my hip. I just got my right hip replaced Aug 2019. Right now I'm at home in excruciating pain trying to recover from double pneumonia and a sickle cell crisis. Due to this coronavirus situation I can't be put into the hospital.
Seeing what she does is an inspiration in a way. No matter what I'm not going to shutup or stop fighting.

P.S Does Anyone Know If There Anyway Off Getting A Package Of Things To Her To Help With Her Training & Needs To Help Her Carry On. Though Due To Her Determination She Will Carry On Either way, But it Would Be Nice To Make Things A Little Bit Easier For Her.
