OMG!!! I've been trying for 20 years to braid and sew rugs, I sat with my mouth open in JOY and EXCITEMENT with how darn SIMPLY and FUN this LOOKS!!! along with that gut feeling of "darn it dummy, why couldnt you have realized this sooner!!" EITHER WAY, I SALUTE YOU WOMAN!! Much thanks from Maine, I will send you a pic of my first rug! I have my husband building my loom as I type! THANK YOU, and KEEP UP THE AMAZING JOYFUL WORK!!
Can you say "Make My Day!" Thank you so much for your encouragement! I am having a ball with these projects! I would LOVE to see a picture - email me diyonthehouse@gmail.com! Thanks again for your kind words!
Absolutely love the simplicity of this technique! Been watching lots of videos and I find this one the quickest and most simple of them all. THANKS SO MUCH!
Enjoying your rug videos so much. When I FINALLY get done with canning....(yes, mid November & not done yet! But VERY thankful for God's abundant blessings!) I'll get to the rug making! I'm working on crochet rugs for my daughter & daughters-in-law for Christmas. So much to do & so little time!! 🙂
You do a wonderful job explaining everything! Thank you so much. I tried on my own before watching any video and it wasn't working out so well but you showed me what I was doing wrong 😂 I appreciate you.
@DIY On the Hse-- Started a TShirt rag rug at last ( was struggling to start cos of no skill in crochet n lack of equipment) n tho did hv to unpick once( pulled a little too tight n it warped) but now I'm confident this rug will turn out okay. Thanks so much. Now this project will fill my lockdown time at home happily. Thanks again❤️
I’m wondering where you got your lap/work table? Also, while you make reference to cutting the t-shirts. I wasn’t exactly sure whether you cut them as single pieces from “south to north” or as linked pieces “East to west” and then cut them in half. Could you explain that? Many thanks. I have a number of t-shirts I am cutting up to make a t-shirt quilt and could take the “blank parts” and use them for this type of project. I’ve watched several of your videos and enjoy them immensely; you’re very good at instruction. I found, however on this one, that you seemed/sounded very rushed (or too caffeinated) and this the slower demo you added was helpful to watch. Thank you for sharing your knowledge.
I cut the shirts in the longest strip possible, mostly going around the body of the shirt. The work table is just a lap desk that we used for years homeschooling, not sure where it originated (sorry). I am glad the slower demo helped -- learning how to do the videos is definitely a learning process! Enjoy your project!
I noticed in the beginning you occasionally skipped a stitch when weaving into the center, how do you decide when this is necessary? I can't wait to get started!
I wish you had continued longer. I don’t feel like I got a confident sense of how to turn it into a rug of any size. The getting started part was great. Much easier than most of the other videos I have found so far. I have so much scrap material. I hate to throw stuff to the landfill. I wish I could become confident doing something like this. I need big rugs. My husband is blind and uses them to feel his way around the house. What you made is something like a coaster. How do you get something like that, but 10 or 20 times that size? How would you deal with the bulk of it as you work on it? How do you seal it off at the end? Sorry for being so stupid about all this.🥺 I did enjoy your video even if I am still a bit foggy on how to produce a rug that would be functional for my needs. How long do you think it would take to produce something approximately 45” x 35”.🤔
Thank you. I’ve tried a few times to make rugs in the last couple of years to no avail. This one is so easy, I’ve already got it started! Have you tried washing one yet?
I think doing a shape would be fun - I will have to try that! I haven't braided with jeans - but I did weave one ua-cam.com/video/tcpYxrN0F3I/v-deo.html
@@DIYOnTheHouse Sorry, I didn't mean I was making a bowl shape. I'm trying to sew together a large braided oval and my friend told me that when she did it, it wouldn't stay flat, it kept curling in like a bowl instead of a flat rug. I've just started mine and I'm guessing you have to be careful how tight you pull your thread and where you insert your tool. I also found a couple of really great UA-cam videos
Very good! Mind if I post this on my web site? I can usually get Tshirts for 25 cents at yard sales. Once this pandemic is over hope to again. Thank you for another way to beat the covid blues
Greetings Kara! Thank you for your round braided rug tutorial. I would love to know how to weave a rug using the technique of weaving that you use on the looms as well. Some kind of round frame would be necessary but I am intrigued by the possibility. Do you have any ideas? Having fun with weaving...thanks to you! Eve
You have inspired me! I am on a mission, I think I have an idea of how to use a quilting hoop. We are going camping this weekend, that is where the best ideas come from, while sitting in lawn chair. I will keep you posted!
Question - Would this be the same concept on a square rug? Many moons ago I saw a video were she used a single clothes rack (with the wheels) but I don't remember how she connected the braids. P S hope you had a good trip.
You can do a braid-in rag rug on a square rug, but turning on the corners can be a bit tricky! you also have to be careful not to tighten up as you go along or else you end up with a V shaped rug lmao
This is such a fun project! If you need other weaving ideas, check out this playlist: bit.ly/weavingplaylist
How many shirts did you use? Thank you!
Finally, no stitching, no sewing machine, brilliant. I am very happy to have found this video. Thank you!
Glad it was helpful!

Those colors are perfection 🤩
I think so too! Thanks!
FINALLY! Lol thanks so much
Enjoy!
Thank you, I've been looking everywhere for this. Have seen on TikTok but didn't see how to start.
Glad I could help!!
All knots are at same place. I vary beginning lengths so bulkiness of knots are spaced out throughout rug.
You do a wonderful job explaining everything! Thank you so much. I tried on my own before watching any video and it wasn't working out so well but you showed me what I was doing wrong 😂 I appreciate you.
Ahhh - thanks!! Have fun!

I just watched for it to get lumpy - then I skipped a stitch. I would love to hear how your project goes diyonthehouse@gmail.com

You can easily make a larger one. Just keep it loose enough that the edges don't curl. You can do it!
Thank you. I’ve tried a few times to make rugs in the last couple of years to no avail. This one is so easy, I’ve already got it started! Have you tried washing one yet?
Wonderful! No, haven't washed it yet - not too concerned since it is so tight. But I will test that out soon!
Have you ever had it curl into a bowl shape? Also, have you ever tried it with Jeans?
I think doing a shape would be fun - I will have to try that! I haven't braided with jeans - but I did weave one ua-cam.com/video/tcpYxrN0F3I/v-deo.html

P S hope you had a good trip.
Another person had asked about square rug, I am not sure. But I am intrigued and going to have to start playing around! I love new challenges!
You can do a braid-in rag rug on a square rug, but turning on the corners can be a bit tricky! you also have to be careful not to tighten up as you go along or else you end up with a V shaped rug lmao
Hoping someone here can tell me why my rug once done, wants to bunch together! I can not get it yo flatten out. Suggestions??
I don't know that you can flatten it afterward - maybe try pinning it to a board, and steaming it with an iron.
Do these wash and wear?
I wash on delicate and line dry! Works well!
Estou saindo errado aprendi fazer um tapete que você me ligou
Have you ever dyed your tshirts if you wanted a specific color?
No, I haven't tried that!! I usually defer to the thrift store for an assortment of colors. Great idea dying them!
