as a kid i was so obsessed with the prodigy that every time my family went to the library ,which was every week, id just keep renewing the dvd until i couldnt anymore. it got so out of hand that my brother and parents would have to beg me to no watch it anymore. now looking back i feel like i was cursed by it or something
some librarian saw the « the prodigy » disc and was like: yep. That looks correct!
@@Imalsoerin as the daughter of a children's librarian - it's not really the fault of the librarians for getting shitty dollar store movies like that, usually the library board or whoever will give them a super tight budget but still insist they get more movies. It's something my mom will complain about daily
I watched this as a kid as well and forgot about it until I watched this, and realized that it makes up some of my core associations
I also loved The prodigy as a kid. My parents had this friend who watched crappy movies and one day he showed me The prodigy. I loved it, but after some time he lost the movie.
@@stale-cupcakes do you get any perks as daughter of librarian or anything? I imagine it must be cool because of the wide variety of books you're exposed to?

I have now become thoroughly convinced that the only reason the main character is named Patrick is so that Tom Kenny could refer to him as Patrick and remind people that this is in fact the man who plays Sponge Bob
As soon as his character said Patrick I was like "They knew what they were doing."
I was wierdly obsessed with The Prodigy for about a year of my life, I didn't think other people knew its existed because it came across as such an underground film, even as a kid
It's weirdly fascinating because it's kinda clear that the writer is familiar with this specific genre, it's just underfunded. It honestly feels like it would be pretty okay if they had more to work with.
Teds gonna be pissed when he finds about Maryland, USA

I thought this exact thing! I'm from the UK but I immediately thought "Isn't that a real place???"
Both of these movies feel like D&D campaigns: the prodigy is DMd and played entirely by well-meaning beginners, and panda warrior is run by a devious troll who had a bit too much to smoke.
Lmao this is the best summary
This comment section is the most anyone has ever talked about Maryland in recent years.

Hey man I know you don’t know me but times are hard. Is your grandmother still available?
Fun fact of the day: lighters were actually invented before matches
Really? Who knew?🔥
I think what actually happens in The Legend of Panda Warrior is that when Patrick falls off the cliff, the light coming from the necklace is actually the "light at the end of the tunnel" when you die, and Merryland is Hell. He died in cowardice and went to Hell for it. That's why he can't leave.
Sorry ted I have to go do chores. I’ll be back when I’m done. (I’m back)

For some reason I actually kind of like some of the character design in The Adventures of Panda Warrior. Like, the fashionable goat? Love her. They actually put effort into this movie and it's borderline scary.
I actually agree. Spinny (the mad science monkey) looks kinda cool IMO, and actually reminds me of some forgotten PlayStation or Xbox game character, and I feel a little awkward for sorta liking a mockbuster.
It’s borderline scary alright
Jimmy ginseng is my favorite now
The fact it lined up with actual fairytale bits and mythical elements was what got me wide eyed, this is as if they knew their homework but made some clusterfuck out of mixing every story together. This feels like if 5 or 6 books got compressed into one movie and then got localized poorly into English.
The goat is actually a pretty good design, ngl.
The real question is: why is Patrick’s nose so big?????? Everyone else’s nose is proportional but Patrick’s face is like 70% nose
Also, he looks like Jackie Chan.
So he can sniff out the tastiest feet

Hahahaha that’s kitsch!
One probably made in poland.
Nothing against poland because I'm polish.
Remember what the bible says
The difference between that character and Gwyneth Paltrow is that one of them manufactures potions and poisons, and the other one is a character in an animated kids movie.
When people say "how did tom kenny get to this?" they forget that actual voice actors are aways scrambling to get their name out there, in Brazil there are less than 30 voice actors that voice most characters, I have a thing with my mom where we try to find Guilherme Briggs dubbing a character because he is in MOST animated movies and series (most recently he's the PT-BR voice actor for Caine from the amazing digital circus)
The master panda’s voice sounds like they recorded it, posted it on UA-cam, set it to 1.25 speed, and screen recorded it.

@@lukes401k That's a lot of acid

You don't have to close your eyes for it to be a fever dream.
Theory:
In "The Adventures of Panda Warrior", Patrick is actually dead. He fell off a cliff and died, that's when the "amulet activated". His brain is flooding him with endorphins while he's going, that's what his entire experience in Merryland is.
Alternatively, he actually reincarnated into a new world (hence why he’s a panda all of a sudden). Since the movie supposedly takes place in China and Buddhism involves reincarnation, maybe he was reborn into the world that his grandpa apparently knew existed (and perhaps his grandpa lived there in a past life?).

Lmao
That part really got to me, and I am NOT a musician. It was just glaringly obvious. The FIRST BEAT of their impromptu jam session is played on a hi-hat. There’s no metal remotely near him, yet there would be some mugs and pots in the tavern.
I’m pretty sure there isn’t a full drumset in Legend of Zelda: Majora’s Mask, but there are enough drums that it isn’t distracting or noticeable to most people in the milk bar scene. Plus that game was made for the N64 decades ago. The princess had polygons for hands.
The Prodigy’s panda-colored koala beating on bulging, squishy drums to play that song is egregious.
