Just wanting to say thank you for this video. Granted, I encountered it a whole lot longer than you'd put it out, but still.. I was hoping you'd do this too where I kept seeing your bucksaw end up in a bunch of videos but had no idea how to put one together.
You sir def make tying knots easy for the ones that have a learning curve... It's seriously like a slow-mo play by play! Some UA-camrs do it so fast I have to rewind a few times...
Very true. I've learned most of the knots from the corporal who is deliberate, goes slow, and doesn't let his hands get in the way of showing how the knot is tied.
Fantastic instructional video. Had just watched some videos that were one way tickets to severing finger tendons, and a tool that would only cut branches, my knife would make short work of. For a little more time and effort, you showed me how to make this beast. I cannot wait for the summer, as I don't have the experience to survive colder weather safely. Once again, thank you.
Saw buck is next? I sawed along the ground once. My back said there must be a better way. I asked my dad, 91, he said everyone had a saw buck to go with the buck saw. I built a collapsible one. A Bushcraft one for an extended camp would be awesome!
I had to come back and revisit this video to teach my daughter how to make one of these. I have never bought a buck saw since I've learned how it's cheaper more efficient and economical just to carry the blade thank you. That it will cut comment well let's just say I have Earl Gray now dripping out my nose from laughing. Thank you devil dog I appreciate what you do for us by making these videos. My daughters and I watch your videos and we go camping and we pick one corporal Kelly's Bushcraft skill to learn you've brought us closer together you are an amazing man
"It Will Cut" You know, I was drinking coffee right when you said that. Now my monitor has coffee splattered all over it. Made me laugh! Great instructional as usual.
I used the buck saw while growing up to cut up firewood for my grandparents wood stove and heater. I didn't know about any other until recently over the internet.
Thank you so much for the info I've been looking for the pattern for a long time. Cause my metal frame is just about worsen out. No money too replace the frame. Yes you've made my day so much easier.
I am prepping for the Pathfinder intermediate class in April. I have made 3 Bushcraft buck saws in the last 4 days. The first two were Dan Wowak style with the cordage securing the crosspiece. They seemed good, but not like they would hold up over time. Today I made your version. It looks outstanding, and feels much more solid. Thanks for your excellent instruction.
The video was perfect you just taught me how to do something I wanted to know for a long time. But the one thing it didn't show which I was disappointed by, was how to break it down and set it back up for travel
You could also use a constrictor knot to stop the branch from splitting, Much less rope needed. I build a bucksaw earlier today before watching this video. Mine was slightly different but still worked, not as good as I would have liked but it was my first time and now I know how to do it better next time.
A good saw can be one of the best tools for bushcraft if not the best most essential. YT is recommending so many of your videos now that I am finally catching up with you.
Awesome video! Awesome Bucksaw! I like that leg cutting technique, if you ever fell and injured an arm hiking , you could still cut wood, if you were working alone.
Going through past episodes, trying to learn as much as possible. Thanks for putting me on to Ranger Survival, learning a lot there too. No coffee tonight.🇺🇲🙏🇺🇲🙏
And to think I was just going to buy one...... What a great thing to practice on every camping trip - and that's one less thing to pack in/pack out! Corporal you just saved me some money and taught me something invaluable that I can use the rest of my life - that, sir, is OUTSTANDING and I thank you!!!
Great one Corporal, thanks. This takes practice and patience. I’ve built a couple, and didn’t quite get the notches lined up right. It is a floppy nightmare.
Love It,,,!!!!!! Amazing, Basic and Simplicity,,!!!! Thank You brother,,!!!! Now I have a awesome project for my upcoming vacation,,, Really,, Thank You !!!!! Joshua
Going to make one tonight. May take a little longer because I have a big pot of Cajun chicken and sausage gumbo going on the burner outside. My mouth is watering already. Enjoyed the video. Where I live the closest to a buck saw I can get is a pack saw. Had one,got rid of it. Instructions are great and clear. Looking forward to finishing mine Tonight. Semper Fi. Charles 🪖🇺🇸❤️
Thank you again Corporal another project to try this weekend. I've learned more from your videos then any book or magazine I've read over the years. You explain everything in detail not skipping over anything. So in your own words OUTSTANDING WORK SIR!!!
If you saw a slit on the outside of each vertical ends, just deep enough for the blade - from one end to the other. You can break it all down, store the blade on the slits and move out! A couple of short Canadian jam knots to hold it all together.
Good to go! Debated about buying one of those nice folding or take down saws but after seeing your older video like this and this one as well, it makes more sense to just craft up a takedown buck saw using natural materials like this. If the saw should fail in the field you are able to make a quick repair. Thanks again for another outstanding educational and informative video.
I like your design there Corporal. I can see on improvement; if you have the a reamer/awl you can drill a hole through each vertical @2” above where you plan to split the verticals for your blade. The split will stop at the hole and you don’t have to worry about traveling any further. Darlington, South Carolina
Great video as always. I wanted to commend you on how you film your videos. I've noticed in all of them that you make sure you spend a good amount of time with the camera shooting what you want to point out. Most videos will spend a second or two focused on what the person is talking about, and, Zoom....off to another scene. You do it correctly and it makes your videos much more enjoyable and easier to conceptualize what you are trying to point out.
This right here is a great example and reason why i enjoy watching All of your Videos, excelent teaching simple understandable instructions, and always a posotive attitude towards everything. I dont get the chance to head out to the woods to test try and or learn all of this stuff, but ill be glad to know i can always bring up a reference video of yours to help me along if i need it.
I made one of these when you posted your first buck saw video. Gotta say I hated using it but I’m glad I did it just to know how. It made me really appreciate my folding saw.

Shawn,
The blade used in this video appears more robust then the blade I'm using. Do you know the manufacturers name? Thanks Mark
This is a cool project for teaching grandkids what they can do outdoors.
You sir def make tying knots easy for the ones that have a learning curve... It's seriously like a slow-mo play by play! Some UA-camrs do it so fast I have to rewind a few times...
When and if you have time could you do a video on how to make a down and dirty tri-pod set up for sawing say for winter time camping
Eric Rosbottom I believe he’s done one, showing the lashing using a timber hitch, fraps, and finishing with a clover hitch. Very good video.
You know you could also jst slow down the playback. I've got mine at 1.5x speed.
Very true. I've learned most of the knots from the corporal who is deliberate, goes slow, and doesn't let his hands get in the way of showing how the knot is tied.
I like that V notch method. It's SO much easier than a mortise and tenon joint. Well done!
Fantastic instructional video.

BUT-- will it KEEEL?
Only when necessary.
Adding this one to my 'Survival' play list, for sure 😁
As usual, another great video. Was shown this when I was a kid but used a fork on one end of the cross piece.
he was right out standing work he does it right

This is an awesome video and is now my 9 yr. old sons next project. He also gives you an A+ on your teaching skills.Thank you!
The best takedown bucksaw video. Thanks
Great improvising skill video...no nonsense, just important skills!! Thanks sir.

Been using a aluminum framed one for year's, it's worked great for me. Great video video Cpl.k.
I got my Moura knife from your page and it's gorgeous, I put a nice patina on it with some apple cider vinegar, Thank you, Corporal, awesome vid

This video makes me want to go make a saw right now! Easy to follow, and understand, instructions. Inspiring! Thanks.
Another tool for the tool box. Thanks for sharing Corporal!
Great job making the bucksaw! Glad to see your Adirondack training video in upstate ny. I camp out weekends @ Indian Lake. Thanks for sharing

Love the saw. It would fit on the outside of the pack. It beats chopping. Bigger capacity than a folding pruning saw.
Thanks for breaking the process down. Will be trying this out. Great vid. Be safe outdoors.
Thanks for sharing, great information !
Outstanding! Just playing catch up, missed this one somehow.
...great project and a great video. As always, thanks...
Great Video Very instructive and simple construction
now THAT is what i call a good buck saw... good woodworking .. no.. really good woodworking.. OUTSTANDING! . J
Thanks again for posting usable information.
Thanks for watching it
Excellent presentation. Thanks for sharing this video.
Keep on rockin'!
Great job Kelly, love that you showed the leg vise and how to lash the split limb. Both are super valuable skills.

Sweet...that Bucksaw looks solid...I’ll need repetition for sure to match your skill...thx for showing how to master it.
That was awesome
Thanks..great instructions. Taking some notes and will be a great project to do on our next hammock/backpacking camp.
Fantastic video, now all i have to carry is a saw blade , thanks corporal.

Saws too!! Outstanding!!
U r the best bushcraft bro on UA-cam and I’ll stand on Dave Canterbury’s coffee table with my boots on and say that.
That’s what I like about your channel. It’s a Cut above the rest !
Wow this is simple way to make buck Saw 🙏🤟💯
Great video CPL, keep up the great work. Love to watch your videos with my daughter.

That said, if possible, Silky saws are the way to go.
Thanks Corp! Really good!
Brilliant video thanks for sharing
So easy an Infantry Soldier can do it. Great job as always.
Thank you sir, nice and simple instructions.

You make an excellent point Jim and are 100% correct. He teaches like a seasoned instructor!
Great vid as usual! One question/ comment: instead of splitting ends for saw blade, why not saw them with knife to prevent splitting ??
There is Always another way to do something. Thanks for watching
mylennyum good point
mylennyum If you use the saw blade you are mounting (wrapped for safety) to cut the slots, they should fit perfectly without having to frap them.
@@marcrosbourgh9086 I would probably frap them just to be sure the wood doesn't split in half as it dries.
Question answered. Thanks guys.
Nice project! Thanks for your efforts!
I made one of these for my ad. Thought he would like it. Turns out he liked it so much he hung it on the living room wall.
