The poet has too absent mind to notice the beauty that surrounds him but then he realizes that he already has what he is looking for elsewhere....... I like to think that in this poem the word "lotus" replaces the word "love", for a woman or for the nature.....

Il giorno in cui fiorì il loto,
ahimè, la mia mente era persa
ed io non me ne accorsi.
Il mio cestino rimase vuoto
ed il fiore inosservato.
Ogni tanto però
una tristezza mi prendeva,
mi svegliavo dal mio sogno
e sentivo nel vento del sud
la presenza dolce di una strana fragranza.
Quella vaga dolcezza
come desiderio tormentava il mio cuore,
e sembrava
l'alito ardente dell'estate
in cerca di soddisfazione.
Non sapevo allora
che era così vicino,
che era già mio,
che questa dolcezza perfetta
era fiorita

On the day when the lotus bloomed,
alas, my mind was straying
and I knew it not.
My basket was empty
and the flower remained unobserved.
Only now and again
a sadness fell upon me,
I woke up from my dream
and felt in the south wind
a sweet trace of a strange fragrance.
That vague sweetness
made my heart ache with longing
and it seemed to me
the eager breath of the summer
seeking for its satisfaction.
I knew not then
that (she) it was so near,
that (she) it was mine,
that this perfect sweetness
had blossomed
in the depth of my heart.

The subject of your beautiful composition, is a verse from Rabindranath Tagore’s Gitanjali Verse #20 - On the Day When the Lotus Bloomed. Tagore was awarded Nobel prize in literature (1913), for the English version of the Gitanjali. Since the verse is from Bengali (Indian) classic literature; with your kind permission, I'll like to comment on it as per my understanding and knowledge.
Tagore's poetry primarily deals with love - love for humanity, love for divinity and love for nature. Tagore's poems uses imageries and it's easy to get confused between romantic love and love for God.
In Hindu mythology, the lotus is the seat of the Lord, the creator and preserver. The lotus flower has been used as an imagery in this poem - to symbolise God's love or presence. The poet compares himself to a flower gatherer who unmindfully fails to notice the lotus flower, on the day it had bloomed. But the sweet smell which wafts in the South wind makes him aware of the presence of the flower. This in fact means, the 'day' when the poet realizes that 'God' whom he has been searching for and waiting from so long, actually resides within himself. Here, Tagore elaborates on the Indian religious concept that God resides in every man's heart.

thanks dear Renaissance for sharing the right interpretation of the poem ...... not having a basis of Indian religious culture I could hardly have given this meaning 😄😄 but reading your comment now everything is clear ...... I thought about "nature" or "woman" also because in the last lines I saw "she"....but "it" would be correct 😊
sadly now I think my visual interpretation is completely wrong🤣🤣🤣 but anyway I don't delete the video, and I only put a note in the infobox👍👍

I can understand that it's impossible for anyone other than those who are well versed with Tagore's works, to figure out the underlying meanings of his creations.
I was totally unaware until 2016, when I became the concert lead for a concert dedicated to Tagore. I had no prior training on this genre of music. For that, I had to learn the songs as well as a bit of theory regarding his works. I owe this bit of knowledge to the lady who trained us for the vocals😊. Have a pleasant evening❤❤.

Oh, divaga mi mente y fluye mi sentimiento..."Si pudiera encontrarle un día, si pudiera sólo verle algún día, ese día, dejaría de buscarle a través de la penumbra, al abrigo del silencio". Mi querido Ad, no creo que exista una sola mujer que diga que no le gusta la poesía, si esa mujer existe, seguramente, nunca ha sido una mujer amada o nunca ha amado con pasión y desde el ama, o quizás nunca ha conocido el sentimiento del amor y el desamor. Creo que la poesía nació así, en medio del amor y el desamor, de la alegría y de la tristeza, del regocijo y la melancolía. La esencia del Poeta es gozar y sufrir, vivir y desvivir por un amor, por la naturaleza o por la vida. Bueno, podría explayarme aún más, pero, sólo me resta agradecerte por tan encantadora y dulce edición que me hace soñar con mi esencia de aprendiz de poeta. Quizás algún día traiga para ustedes algunas frases poéticas que nacieron como desahogo de mi alma por el amor y la melancolía. E interessante come anche se la poesia e la stessa il fatto che sia in lingua diversa la fa sembrare un altra poesia!
hai proprio ragione, pensa che malgrado l'abbia letta più volte non sono riuscito a capire che il soggetto non è una donna, e nemmeno la natura, ma è Dio nel cuore del poeta😂 ...e quindi il video sarà magari anche carino, ma è totalmente errato🤣🤣🤣
