Man...this is 70s Funk with a capital F and a double U! Richard Tee, Gordon Edwards, and Cornell Dupree layin' down a rhythm so deep, all I can say is Haa'Mercy! 👑🎸🎵
I'm a 54 year-old white male just happened to stumble across this lady today and wow what a treat! That is one incredible voice I will definitely be listening to her much more in the future her style of funk is contagious! Thank you for posting.
Heard this tune first in 1973 at the age of sixteen. Lesson learned: this kind of music is contagious. Still find myself from time to time humming or whistling this song, and exactly in this version.
An all-time hit penned by Bill Withers and ably delivered by the unsung heroine of song, Esther Phillips. Perhaps it's no overstatement that the 1970s were the zenith of pop musical creativity in all known genres in the whole wide world!
My friends feel it's their appointed duty They keep trying to tell me all you want to do is use me baby My answer yeah to all that use me stuff I want to spread the news that if it feels this good getting used Oh you just keep on using me until you use me up Until you use me up My sister She sat me right down and she talked to me She told me I ought not to let you just walk on me She meant well But when our talk was through I said brother if you only knew you'd wish that you were in my shoes You just keep on using me until you use me up Until you use me up Sometimes It's true you really do abuse me You get in a crowd of high class people and then you act real rude to me But oh baby baby baby baby when you love me Inlimitated I can't get enough I and I want to spread the news that if it feels this good getting used Oh you just keep on using me until you use me up Until you use me up Talking about you using me but it all depends on what you do It ain't too bad the way you're using me 'Cause I sure am using you to do the things you do Ah ha to do the things you do
Esther is so underrated her personal problems and the fact that general public.was not ready for singing this raw.and bluesy prevented her from becoming an icon she always had a small but loyal following I think her sound was just too black to crossover to mainstream white America although she had a couple of hit records
I think, that Aaron Neville's version is better musically, but voice is too weak. In Esther Phillips's version I feel pain in her voice, because she was singing about her life. Also I feel the force in Esther Phillips's. Thats why I prefer Esther Phillips's version.
This version is better quality ua-cam.com/video/kNhHIjr6Idg/v-deo.html
The 'yellow' episode of Kaleidoscope brought me here.
And I'm very grateful.

Oh me too! Had to listen to the original. Love this one. It stands on its own!
Esther Phillips! Unsung Singing Diva, amazing talent that never was given enough spot light.

Esther gives Bill Withers a run for his money. Fantastic
This is a very beautiful song and it makes a lot of sense

My friends feel it's their appointed duty
They keep trying to tell me all you want to do is use me baby
My answer yeah
to all that use me stuff
I want to spread the news that if it feels this good getting used
Oh you just keep on using me
until you use me up
Until you use me up
My sister
She sat me right down and she talked to me
She told me
I ought not to let you
just walk on me
She meant well
But when our talk was through
I said brother if you only knew you'd wish that you were in my shoes
You just keep on using me until you use me up
Until you use me up
Sometimes
It's true you really do abuse me
You get in a crowd of high class people and then you act real rude to me
But oh baby baby baby baby when you love me
Inlimitated
I can't get enough
I and I want to spread the news that if it feels this good getting used
Oh you just keep on using me until you use me up
Until you use me up
Talking about you using me but it all depends on what you do
It ain't too bad the way you're using me
'Cause I sure am using you to do the things you do
Ah ha to do the things you do
Your lyrics are not correct.
Better than the original.. Now that's saying something

Ugk. Oh ok
This version is great but I prefer Aaron Neville's version overall.

@Michał Chmielewski I love both of these talented underrated singers have you heard Esther sing Cherry Red?LORD HAVE MERCY!!!!
I love this version but don't get it twisted. Nobody does Bill Withers like Bill Withers.
